《Dungeon of books》Adventurers - Chapter 7

POV - Celestia
I was in the field of Endless War, the place was once a capital of an empire. The name of the empire was lost with time. The empire was one of war and conquest, it subdued half of the Material Plane. The empire with its emperor and knights was far above level 500 and even them were brought to ruin. The empire tore itself apart, mostly because of the inability to rule the next emperor had. Revolutions, the church, and even some demons fought to bring down the empire. But even if the new emperor was a bad leader, that doesn’t mean the knights were weak. After several years of this conflict, it ended with a great battle. The only battle in the world that was called the great battle, happen when the revolutionaries decided they were stronger than the knights and launch an assault on the capital. Of course, they were not stronger than the empire. However, this battle involved all the other forces that wanted to take out the empire. The battle when on for months of constant death. Millions died per day, causing the ground in the field of Endless War to be forever bloodied. Now after thousands of years, the undead spawned from the bloodied remains of the war.
I closed the book I was reading and sighed. “I can’t believe I’m expected to do a request to destroy a zombie captain.”
“Priestess we know you don’t like the idea of leaving the temple and joining an adventurer’s party. But you do need levels and besides Paladin Arthur will join you.” One of the clergies says quickly trying to console me.
"Yes, I understand that I must gain some levels, but does it have to be with an unknown group,” I say not wanting to be a part of the group I am joining.
“But Priestess, the pope said that you have to gain levels through combat and not just lazing around the temple.” Another one of the clergies says.
“That old bag has always been more brawn than brains. I don’t even know why he is the pope, he only made it to X rank. There are far more powerful adventurers out there than him.” I yell in irritation.
“Priestess, don’t talk about him like that.” A few of the clergy tell me, in a scared tone as if they might be overheard.

“And what is he going to do, kick me out,” I responded.
“Maybe I will.” A gruff voice says from behind me. I quickly spin around to see a 6ft well-muscled man wearing a barely fitting set of priest clothes. My blood quickly drains from my face at the sight of him. All my anger at the situation evaporated.
“I thought maybe this would happen.” He tells me with his hard gray eyes pinning me down. “You were one of the few to gain the Priestess class, and you let it go all to your head. That’s why I said you should join an adventurers group.” He says with a disapproving tone in his voice. Before I could squeak out a reply he pick me up with one hand, and told me, “This is why I am kicking you out until you become S rank in the Adventurers Guild.”
“Apollo won’t stand for you kicking out one of his few Priestesses,” I say in an almost pleading tone, not sure if I am trying to scare him.
“Ah don’t worry I already got Apollo’s permission to kick you out.” He replies with a devilish smile on his face.
The next thing I know I am out of the door and on the streets of the town closest to the field of Endless Wars. I stand up, dusting off the dust that had gotten onto my priestess robes. I stare at the door with anger about to chargeback in and give the pope a piece of my mind, but I was stopped from behind. I turn around expecting to see some sort of beggar but all I saw was Arthur. With Arthur was the adventurer’s group I was supposed to join, Horizon I believe.
“Miss Priestess, I was told you would cause a scene and you were going to be kicked out by the pope. So I highly discourage going back in.” He says in that same emotionless tone he always uses.
“You’re saying the pope predicted all of this from the start,” I yell about to throw a punch at Arthur.
“Yes,” he says completely seriously. “Let’s now get you signed up for the adventurers guild,” he says as he walks off.
I look around and spot the other two adventurers just as confused as me. I walk over to follow Arthur into the guild. The trial in the guild to get stating rank was easy. Just some mana manipulation, magic test, and strength test. I got D as my adventurer rank.

As I walk out I see the other two adventurers that I am supposed to work with. I try to walk over and get them to serve me better but before I could do so Arthur walks out of the guild with a paper.
“I got the guild request.” He says in a firm tone.
“Yeah, alright but do I have to go,” I say whining because I don’t want to do any of this.
“Yes, you do.” the female swordswomen tells me in a smooth voice that flows like water.
“Fine!” I yell back more annoyed than anything else. Then with a huff, I sit down to explore my status, while they talk about how they are going to deal with the zombie commander.

Those bastard sealed my blessing. I feel as if I'm about to burst from all the anger I am feeling.
Just to add to that the sword woman yells, “Priestess are you coming.”
My stubbornness keeps me from yelling at her about proper etiquette, I just stand up to follow her into the field of Endless Wars.
After several hours of just board silence, I’m at my breaking point. I can’t keep up with these people, I’m already exhausted. So I say with my teeth grinding, “I’m feeling tired can we set up camp.”
“Ah, so the priestess is finally tired” the Sword woman yells out loud and laughs.
“Yes I am also tired we should set up camp, we have been walking for 5 and a half hours.” the mage boy says backing me up.
“Alright let’s set up camp and get to know each other better,” Arthur says directing us on how to set up a camp.
After little hard work from myself, the camp is set up. Arthur says “Let’s introduce ourselves to the group. I will start, My name is Arthur and I am one of the Paladins set to guard Celestia”
The sword woman stands up and says, “My name is Noel and I came here to train up Sword mastery.”
“Guess I should go next. My name is Simmons and I came to join you guys for my Adventerurs pass to progress in Mage College.” Simmons says as if he is too tired to deal with this crap.
I then give my piece, “My name is Celestia, and my goal is to get S rank as fast as possible to shove it to the pope.” with the final words I punch the ground beneath me. Expecting the soft red grass, I was shocked when I hit a solid stone slab. “Ouch,” I yip in pain.
“Oh, my did the Priestess hurt her precious hand,” Noel says in a playful tone.
“No not that, there’s something under me,” I say trying to figure out what it is.
“Stand up please, so I may investigate,” Arthur says trying to get to the bottom of this mystery.
I stand up and walk to the side as I wait for Arthur to find out what I was sitting near. After a while of investigating, Noel and Simmons join in on the investigation. After even longer, I just could not take it anymore. I walk over to the stone slab and yell “Let’s just move on it’s probably debris or something”
“Boo get off the stage,” Noel yells from the back.
I stomp my foot on the ground. As I was getting ready to yell at Noel about how she should respect me, the stone slab just disappears. As I am about to start to fall I can see a look a shock on Arthur’s face. Before Arthur could grab me I was already falling down the stairs case. Each time I hit a stair I can feel my bone crack, and under the pain, I scream. Then with a huge thump, I hit a wall. I can hear Arthur and the others running down here as quickly as possible.
By the time I could think right again I cast Major Heal on myself bringing me back to max hp but I ended up using all my mana. I look up at the wall I hit to see a dark wooden door with the symbol of a book inscribed onto it.

March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.
