《W.A.R.F.R.A.M.E.》Chapter Twenty Six: City Qualifiers

Vincent spent most of his time after school and his weekends, training for the qualifiers. Every day he would go to Card Cabin and dive into the Nexus. While he was there, he met with Bell again, who told him that he did not necessarily have to do a difficult mission in order to go to space. He could simply do simple collection missions. Bell accompanied Vincent and guided him along. They launched into space and headed for the debris field.
Once they arrived, Vincent asks, “What is it that we are looking for exactly?” Bell was humming when Vincent contacted her, “Huh, oh, right. We are looking for frame parts in this debris field for recycling purposes. Once we have enough, we can go back to base. That being said, this is an easy mission as the parts are all over the place. Your main priority is flight training. I know that when I sent you on that tutorial mission, the autopilot was on. So, you didn’t have to worry about getting lost or something like that. But tutorial’s over and everything has to be done manually.” Vincent nodded. He knew he found it odd that he was able to easily fly his frame with zero flight training.
Vincent easily detected his target objectives on his radar and he slowly flew toward them. Despite having learned how to fly in space, Vincent still had trouble mastering the skill. Bel observed Vincent’s flying skills and gave her input. “You need to treat flying like swimming Vincent. The only difference is that you have to control your thrusts output instead of moving your arms and legs. Just imagine yourself swimming and that your thrusters are helping you move. They are the currents that are pushing your body. Visualize it, and then try flying again.”
Vincent closed his eyes and tried to visualize it. He was swimming underwater and the thrusters allowed him to move in any direction. Once he got the hang of it, he quickly flew around. He was finally able to fly. He tried darting around the large pieces of debris as training. After a while, he finally mastered changing directions without stopping. Having had enough practice, Vincent thanked Bell for her help. “Now I’m ready. Championships, here I come.”

While Vincent was busy training inside the Nexus, Justin was busy with other matters. He had placed down his pen and took his drawing to the scanner. Having scanned his drawing, the image of a new manta ray appeared on the computer screen. Justin used his digital pen and touched up the picture before sending it to his grandfather. “With the limitations, even with some minor upgrades, this thing should still get approved.” Having sent in his drawing, Justin opened a tab for WARFRAME and watched videos from previous championships. He wanted to get as much information as possible before his big match.
Justin watched Videos for about two hours before he finally got a reply from the manufacturers. Justin read the email he had just received along with the image of the card that he had just drawn. The email reads, ‘Dear Justin, we are delighted to inform you that your design has passed inspections and you can print the card.’ Reading the message, Justin could not help but grin, “Hopefully, with this bad boy, I’ll be able to get there again. Then, I’ll find that b****** and give him some payback.”
The following day, Justin met with his homeroom teacher and faculty advisor, Mister Myers. “Mister Myers, I would like to have a spar with you after school. Would that be possible? I’ve upgraded my Mantaraia and I wanted to field test it before Qualifiers.” When Justin asked this, Mister Myers was grading his student’s homework. He sets his pen down and observes Justin, “Sure. I always make time for a battle. Meet me at the club after the bell rings. But you do have me curious as to what you have up your sleeve.”
After the bell rang, Mister Myers arrived at the club room, only to see Justin already there waiting for him. “Alright, let’s get started.” Only a few minutes had passed since they started their battle and Justin had already destroyed Mister Myers’ RexCalibur. Mister Myers thought, "Impressive Justin. You’ve improved your frame in only a few short weeks. As expected of his nephew. You’ve greatly improved your frame and its performance, the only question that remains is, what sort of improvements have your teammates made? I already had Anna make contact with a friend of mine, as for Vincent, I hope he's ready for the fight ahead."

Then, the day came. It was the day of the City Qualifiers. The tournament would be held at one of the sports centers in Massey. On that day, the whole place was abuzz with excitement as not just the participants but the audience was also excited for the event. Anna and Mister Myers had already gotten there and were waiting for the arrival of the rest of their team. While they were waiting Mister Myers asked Anna, “Anna, did you finish the upgrades you had set out to do? I hope my friend was helpful to you.” Anna nods and smiles, “Oh yes, he was quite helpful. Thanks to him, my Rosenkavalier has become more powerful. With the upgrades and mods I made, I shouldn’t lose out to Justin or Vincent in terms of speed or weapons.”
Mister Myers looked towards the crowd to see signs of his students, “That’s good to hear. Have you had time to break it down yet? Because you won’t have much of it during the brackets.” Anna answered, full of confidence, “No I haven’t. But I have faith in Justin and Vincent. I’m sure they can support me while I get better acquainted with my new upgrades.” Mister Myers shrugs, “Anyway, let’s try to get the championship this year.” Anna was very energetic and fist pumped, “This year, we’re going for the top.”
Justin arrived and chatted with Anna and Mister Myers. The only person that had yet to arrive was Vincent. Justin looked at his watch, “He’s going to be late. If he doesn’t make it today, we’ll have no other choice but to forfeit.” Just thinking about having to forfeit, made Justin depressed. He was set out on reaching the grand stage and now, he might have to wait another year just because Vincent was late.
Anna patted his shoulder, “Don’t worry. Vincent knows how big today is. I’m sure he’ll be here on time.” Mister Myers was looking around for signs of Vincent when he heard a girl call out, “Sorry we’re late.” He turned his attention to the source of the voice to see Vincent being dragged by the arm by a joyful JoJo. “Well, speak of the devil.” Mister Myers was glad that the entire team had been fully assembled.
Anna was surprised, “Vincent, why are you with JoJo?” Vincent answered, “Actually, I just bumped into her at the station.” JoJo was smirking and grinning, “I found him wandering around the train station. He didn’t know where the venue for the competition was. You should really thank me, Anna!” Anna got irritated seeing JoJo smirking like that, “Well thank you for your kindness. Now, why don’t you run along back to your own team and stay out of my team’s affairs, huh!” Anna pulls Vincent to her side and arrogantly crossed her arms.
JoJo sneered, “Jealous, are we? Does the idea of Vincent walking with me here tick you off” Anna went ballistic, “Who said I was jealous? Now, why don’t you make like a tree and leave.” As the two girls argued, Vincent swore he could see sparks coming out of their eyes and clashing. “Girl fights can be scary.” Both of them heard what Vincent said and yelled at him, “You stay out of this!” Justin facepalmed and shook his head, “They are too into this.” Mister Myers awkwardly comments, “Well, at least it’s better than being nervous.”
