《Divine Mortality》Chapter 19

MC: “What’s the matter you guys?”
May: “Krafty is being such a Wuss, and-HEGBUTIMSAYNOANDIMLIKEHWAT?”
Krafty: “May! You can’t even speak properly without yelling gibberish halfway through!”
MC: “Krafty, so what’s the problem?”
May: “Hmph!”
Krafty: “Well, you see…May keeps getting more irritated the longer we stay here. Yesterday we’ve agreed to remain at the Starting Town for at least today because I don’t feel ready to leave this area.”
May: “You’ll never feel ready to leave this area! We’ve already done pretty much everything that there needs to be done, let’s go somewhere Krafty…”
MC: “Krafty, why don’t you want to leave the starting town yet? Is there an active quest your doing right now?”
Krafty: “No, not really. But we still haven’t explored each corner yet and- “
May: “And we haven’t yet talked to EVERY NPC character we spot?”
Krafty: “Stop copying what Wise did yesterday! You’re not cool enough.”
Krafty thinks that WiseMaster667 is cool?!
May: “No Krafty, I’m not even channeling the powers of Wise. It’s obvious what you were going to say that because that’s the excuse you’ve been giving me the whole time. It’s a bad excuse!”
MC: “Hold on. So, dear friends. Let me get this straight. You two made an agreement yesterday that you’ll spend at least one whole day around the Starting Town?”
Krafty: “YUP!”
May: “yeah basically”
MC: “But now May thinks that, Krafty and she, have already spent enough time doing all the main activities that are possible for you to do in the Starting Town. And it is now the time to move on. But Krafty still wants to try to find more activities to do so that he can make sure you've done everything there is to do?”
Krafty: “…yes…”
May: “He just wants to find more clothing items to put on his character. I told him his character already looks stupid, and the gear we’re finding is low level so anyways it’s not going to look cool.”
Krafty: “You didn’t need to go into detail about that…”
MC: “Alright, friends, I believe I found a compromise for the both of you.”
May: “I’m all ears.”
Krafty: “What is it?”
Honestly, it seems that May is technically in the wrong. Because if in a different scenario where they had signed a contract agreement together that "for today they’ll only play at around the Starter Town", then May would’ve already tried to break that contract by now. But I can see how May is frustrated. It must be boring for her to constantly be doing little side missions while following Krafty around. Basically, to her, she’s wasting her time. And from my own experience of what I’ve played of this game so far, I’m pretty sure it’s probably pointless for Krafty to even try completing everything that’s possible to do in the Starting Town area. This Overworld is everchanging, the quests and possible activities aren’t static. There will always be more activities to do. And he could always come back later on.
So…what’s this compromise idea that just sparked into my mind? Well, simply put, it looks like “all roads lead to Susana” right now.
MC: “Here’s my idea. How about you guys come to me?”
May: “Fine by me as long as it’s not at the starting town”
Krafty: “How does that solve my issue?”
MC: “Well, honestly Krafty it doesn’t. But at the same time, it does. Let me explain”
Krafty: “Alright, I’m listening”
MC: “Today I spent a lot of time playing at one of the random villages west of the Starting Town. I spent a few hours playing at this village. By the way, it’s like half the size of the Starting Town. The thing is, I learned a lot about the game while playing today. And one of the things I’ve learned I can say with certainty is…”
(Actually, I can’t say it with certainty because I don’t know if it’s exactly true or not but I’m pretty sure it is)
MC: “…is that it’s impossible to ever fully complete any quest or activity in this game. Even in small areas like that village I was at.”
Krafty: “eh…but I still want to at least do a few more things here because if we rush ahead now, I wouldn’t feel good about it”
May: “There’s no such thing Krafty. If we were ever rushing ahead, then we wouldn’t have even logged back into the game at this Starting Town! Remember when Wise told us we could go straight to the Free Counties but didn’t? I actually wanted to, but because that would’ve been too far for you, I didn’t bother saying it.”
Krafty: “Alright May, I get it. You keep saying it every time as if I haven’t heard you telling me that.”
May: “Then why don’t you understand? We wouldn’t be rushing ahead if we go now!”
Krafty: “uh, anyways, Amulet. Where are you at right now?”
MC: “Well, I’m not there yet but I am almost there. It’s a large town called Susana. Supposedly it’s double or triple the size of “Soule Town” which is actually the name of the Starter Town according to the NPCs.”
Krafty: “But, why should we go there specifically? It sounds far away, so wouldn’t we be too low level? We’ve only level up to level 5.”
They’re already level 5? But I’m pretty sure I’ve been playing longer than they have so far…I guess they did say they were doing a bunch of quests in the Starter Town. So, all of that accumulated to level 5 huh. Meanwhile I just did one long event-quest.
MC: “Umm, yeah you guys should probably be fine. Your higher level than I am, I’m at level 3. And it’s not too far away. What you’ve probably seen online or heard about the distance in this game is true, so it does take a while to get to places. But I’m pretty sure your trip shouldn’t be too long. There is probably one large road that goes north of the Starting Town and then straight westward nearby a river. You’ll eventually get to Susana.”
May: “Yeah Krafty, we should definitely go. A large town sounds like a place that has a lot more activities than this countryside town with a bunch of monks.”
Krafty: “Yeah…would there actually be any fun activities? What if the town has only fighting in it?”
MC: “It would be good for May I guess, but we should meet up again. I know it hasn’t been a while and we agreed that it could happen either today or sometime later on next week. But it would be fun to be around near each other in the same area. It’s a large town, so I doubt we’ll run out of things to do when we’ll arrive. Plus, for me, I’d be able to see more other Players around while you guys will get to experience a place with a higher amount of NPCs vs the number of Players. Oh, and the reason why I’m going to this town called Susana, it’s because I have about two quests that lead me there. So, what do you say?”
May: “You know my stance, as long as me and Krafty go to another area that isn’t the Starting Town, then I’m fine with it.”
Krafty: “Fine! You convinced me, but only because you’re the one asking for it Amulet…Anyways what are the quests you’re doing which take you to that place?”
MC: “Oh, well…I just need try and convince one NPC character there and I need to buy some food.”
May: “Food? Why? Does eating food give you bonuses? Is there a survival mechanic here?!”
Krafty: “How does the food in this game look like?”
MC: “Well, I haven’t seen much food directly in the game yet. And I don’t know if there are any effects applied to you after consuming food…”
May: “So…why’re you looking for food? Oh right, probably because an NPC asked you for it…duh.”
MC: “Yeah! Pretty much that, Eseli just asked for some so now one of my quests is to buy fish or something sweet.”
May: “Krafty, let’s get going now. It sounds like we’ll be moving a lot for a while.”
Krafty: “Yeah hold on May, be a bit more patient! Whose Eseli? Is it a little girl character?”
MC: “Well, kinda. No but kind of Yes. I think I’ve got this NPC as a follower/companion. She isn’t a little girl, but she does remind me of some based off her personality. I guess she’s basically a cat-girl, but I like to call her a ‘lady-cat.’”
May: “Hey Krafty why did you start running?”
Krafty: “MAY, no time for talking! Let’s get going!!!”
May: “You’re rushing because he said cat-girl? You really are a bit of a loser!”
Krafty: “Sorry Amulet, let’s end the call now (I don’t want to get distracted!), but don’t worry we’ll get there soon!!!”
MC: “Ah okay…- “
*ping*
May: “Can you believe Krafty? One moment he’s scared of going anywhere in a video game because of “the pressure”, and now he’s running all the way to you just because you have a cat-girl?
MC: “I guess… don’t tell this to Krafty, but Eseli is more like a worthless cat-woman instead of a cute cat-girl which he must be imagining.”
May: “Haha! I won’t, I can’t wait to see his face of disappointment. I guess I’ll now drop this call too. Cya soon Amulet!”
MC: “Yeah!”
*ping*-*ping*
Well, that conversation’s mood certainly changed at the end! In the beginning May and Krafty were incomprehensibly bickering with each other, and now it looks like Krafty’s true colors are showing after he began rushing towards me because he learned about Eseli. Wait a moment, why does he care if it’s a cat-girl? There are probably plenty of Players at spawn with characters that look like that, including his own Sunmel character! Is he really that gullible to think that I was referring to a cartoonish character? Oh Krafty, I’m starting to think that you really are a bit pathetic like May suggests. I think I even heard you say that WiseMaster667 is cool? No offense to WiseMaster667, but I wouldn’t describe him as someone “cool”. For future reference, I probably shouldn’t fully trust Krafty with important things!
Ah, that was a good time killer. Looks like me, Eseli, and FeeNix are exiting this small forest. Ah! And we can immediately see some structures in the distance. The land around here is still relatively flat with some slopes, but it’s mostly easy to see what’s far ahead unless there are trees blocking the view.
And I’ve still been dragging Eseli around with Amulet’s right hand. Poor Amulet, I wonder if his arms are starting to hurt after having them stretched out behind his back. Let me turn my head around and get a better look at how Eseli is doing. Ah! She’s awake. She actually looks awake. Her sharp feline eyes, while thin and not largely shaped, are now clearly open.
She’s definitely a weird one as well. I bet if she were any other NPC like Renes or even a monk, they’d make a lot livelier sounds and movements or at least look organic. However, Eseli is as still as a rock. But her eyes are moving sharply around, looking at me and then sometimes looking off to the side. I mean, I still don’t know anything about her besides that she can use magic and that she’s sleepy. I guess I also know that she likes eating fish or sweet stuff. Now that I’m thinking more carefully about everything, I know about her, isn’t she a super mysterious character? She seems definitely stronger or at least more capable than the average person. She was sleeping or half sleeping for almost the whole time I’ve known her, granted it has been about 2 or 3 hours since I met her, but it already feels like a whole day.
I get it. I figured out her character/personality. If she is valuable, is able to use magic well, and is very careless and lazy…it could only mean one thing. Maybe it’s because I might already have a sage’s level of knowledge, from prior experiences about fantasy worlds, that I am able to come up with this conclusion. On my own. Based on observations, so it of course means that this is sort of scientific…
Eseli is a powerful character.
No. Like, a legitimately powerful and important character.
How powerful and legitimate, I don’t know, but I can spot a special character in a story when I see one… and all my evidence is pointing to it.
Or she could really just be a random character I found who’s simply a careless lady-cat that knows some magic and is now expecting me to buy them food...
FeeNix: After yo chat, sounds like some brat has learned that my man Digs’n’Elf has got a pussycat-ace, but don’t worry pal, cuz admitting Eseli is cute, isn’t a disgrace!
MC: Do you see what I’m seeing!? It’s a literal human-sized cat person, how is that any cute?! Isn’t it scary?
FaceNix: “I dunno ‘bout scary, although sounds like Krafty would marry.”
He’s really disgustingly vulgar with his rhymes, isn’t he?
Also, I forgot that this guy could hear me speaking the whole time. Since I was speaking out loud. There must be something I can later change in the Voice Chat settings…

The Vagabond King

On the continent of Moravia, eight empires have united humanity into a coalition of kingdoms that killed the world’s gods and have sworn to uphold peace amongst mortals. But sorcerers prevail among the ruling class and the only way to subvert power is through duels and tournaments, which common people can never hope to win. Even the right to create an independent nation is locked behind a tournament. Mattiew and Adriana Nikoliades try their best to live a settled life as a former pirate and a runaway heiress. But despite their efforts, Adriana’s father inflicted his daughter with a debilitating curse that would end in her death. He threatens Mattiew to fight on his behalf against the world’s most powerful sorcerers and nobles in the Bellirex, a tournament that acts as the world’s pathway to kingship. But as a man without a drop of sorcerous blood, Mattiew has to get old partners in crime on board with a near-blasphemous lie. The young couple have to decide to either save themselves and hand a corrupt noble more power or stick to their principles and try to overthrow one of the most entrenched noble houses in the world. All before Mattiew gets turned to ash by the Sunkiller, a favorite to win the Bellirex, or Adriana's parents catch on to her conspiracy. New chapter everyday at midnight EST.

Molting the Mortal Coil
Reincarnated as a child in a new world a mild mannered programmer, named Sage, finds himself struggling to survive. The road to immortality is paved with danger, treasure, and conflict. This mystical eastern world is filled with Demonic Beasts, Treacherous Cultivators, and Extraordinary Legacies. Follow Sage on his journey to adapt to this new world, and find out if he can overcome the limitations of body, mind, and soul. Will he rise to the occasion and become a hero? Or maybe he'll turn to the dark side and end up a villain? Molting the Mortal Coil is more of a slower paced journey. It's not about endless battles and conquering the next bad guy who spits on the main characters shoes or sends him a funny look. There's also not a treadmill of tournaments or love interests. It's more of a slower burn with lots of, and hopefully not too much, world building. It's still supposed to be stuffed with action, but that won't pick up for a while since we start with a weakling. The first 30 chapters have a lot of time-skipping, but stay with me it gets better. I plan to re-write and add more to the first 30 in the future, but if you can push through I feel it gets much more fun after! Updates will be weekly. Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday.
