Ralph Jenkins had an in-depth conversation with a pediatrician.

"Mr. Jenkins, we should give her the ultra-vaccine to begin its growth," said the doctor. "Doing otherwise is inhumane and potentially condemning your newborn to a life of untold suffering."

"I'll speak with my wife, but she's quite 'religious' about her convictions."

Ralph entered the delivery room and explained what the doctor said.

"No!" Sarah folded her arms. "If God wants our child to be perfect, she won't need those dreadful nanites floating around her system! He will protect her, always."

"But Sarah, the doctor explained to me it must be done, now or never, for the exo-immunity organ to develop and refresh the nanites over her lifetime to adapt to her growing systems. She won't be able to get it done as a teenager or adult because there's a high risk for rejection, or much worse."

"I said no!"

Ralph spoke with the pediatrician again, in private.

"I'm sorry, Doc, she refuses."

"Very well, of course you know I'm obligated to report this."

"Yes, I understand."

Once Janet, their child, reached 18 years of age, she requested her birth documents unsealed for her to peruse.

Ralph handed her a speaking device to read the words.

"Are you kidding me?" Janet shouted as she heard the audible words and cried.

"At that time, your mom believed she did what was best for you."

Janet navigated her way to her bedroom and slammed the door.

Sarah cried. "How was I supposed to know she'd have that car accident as a teenager?"

"I know. It's not your fault, dear," replied Ralph.

"But it is. It is. I can see now. But she never will."
