《The Alteras Games: World Jumper Book 2》Chapter 11

"We going to talk about what happened back there?" Jeff asked as he walked beside Jet.
"Not much to say. I have no clue where my bones and cores went. Better question is, when did you learn to fly?" Jet changed the subject.
"Fly, such a strong word. I more like float around." Jeff waved a hand.
"Geese, what happened to us, man." Jet sighed.
"What do you mean?"
"Just listen to the way we talk. You used to be so upbeat. We are starting to sound like old men. Whatever happened to your hero attitude?" Jet made a stupid pose. "Stop there, bully. I will not let this happen."
Jeff winced. "That was nowhere close. Do not fear citizens. I am here to protect you." He corrected Jet's bad impression of himself as a kid. "Also, you've always acted older than you were. Except for your forced smiles, you haven't changed much. As for me, life got real. I was a powerless fool pretending to be a hero."
"Well, you can be a hero now. You have magic of your own now. You shouldn't act like fly is a strong word. The Jeff I knew would say it's only a matter of time before I can fly. I'd like to see that Jefferson again. My first friend, I had ever made." Jet smiled at Jeff just to prove he could smile again. "Let's not let this new world chew us up and spit us back out. You become the hero you always wanted to be, and me." Jet paused for a moment. "The friend you call on if you need help."
"Seriously? You want me to become a hero. While you are just my backup?" Jeff said while laughing.
"Of course, I'm no hero." Jet stopped walking and put a hand on Jeff's shoulder. "But, we're still friends. If you need any help, I'll be there for you."
Jeff smiled. "It's a deal, now that I got magic of my own. I will become a hero everyone knows."
"I'll leave all those villains to you then." Jet gives him a thumbs up.
Jeff looked the smiling Jet over. "Probably better if you are support. You seem to be missing an arm. I'm amazed you can even walk around. You got to be in quite a bit of pain."
"Meh, could have lost a leg. Now that would have been annoying. As for pain, my body has hurt for quite some time. Just walking around is a bit painful." Jet shrugged off the remark.
"Is it getting hotter, or are you warming up the air?" Jeff unbuttoned his coat.
Jet stopped and looked around. He had been regulating his body temperature, not the air. "Not me. I've used too much magic to waste on being a heater."
"This is something I should have asked earlier. But where were you headed?" Jeff asked.
"The ghost girl told me to go this way." Jet simply explained and walked on.
As they walked forward, it kept getting hotter. The water around them even boiled from the heat. Jeff, at some point, had to take off his coat and shirt. The heat, however, was getting hot enough it was getting hard to breath. Jet finally noticed and cooled the air around him to help. "Don't be a stupid hero. If you're having problems breathing, let me know."
"Never thought I'd be so glad for a cool breeze." Jeff wheezed out.

"Yes, it is far too hot down here. Yet, it is so cold everywhere else." Jet looked down at his ice. "I'm having to continuously keep this ice from melting. We got maybe an hour tops before I'm out of magic."
"If the ice is melting, why not just pull up the rock below the water?" Jeff asked.
Jet raised an eyebrow. "The water here is much deeper than about eighty feet back. I don't know how deep. But I don't think it would be a good idea anyways. Are shoes might catch on fire from the heat. I could just create some rock to walk on temporarily. But that would use a lot of magic and heat up to the point of burning our shoes." Jeff had stopped following at some point, and Jet looked back at him. "What?"
"So the question we should be asking right now is, what is all this water cooling?" Jeff pointed to a spot in the distance.
Jet also looked off in the distance. "Is something glowing under the water?" He turned and went that way. "Yes, that is a very good question."
As they got closer, the heat intensified. "Jet, how long do we have?"
"I told you about an hour. As long as we keep walking." Jet wasn't using any more magic to keep them cool. However, he had stopped his body enhancements to save on magic.
"And what do you mean as long as we keep walking?"
"I don't have to recreate the already melted ice." Jet's pace had doubled the closer they got to whatever they were headed towards. However, he stopped when the ghost girl appeared in front of them.
"Warning, system failure. You must hurry. Time is almost up." She evaporated in front of them but pointed in a direction before disappearing.
"That sounds bad, or is it just me?" Jet asked.
"I think we should pick up the pace," Jeff said to slowly. Jet had already started off in a run. That's when he realized something. "Hang on. You don't want rock because you'd burn your feet."
Jet laughed. "Seriously, we have no clue what we are running to, and you want to bring up my bare feet."
Jeff smiled. "Want to hear where Alex found your arm instead?" Jet turned to look over his shoulder at Jeff. "Too soon?"
"No, go on. I'm curious how I lost my arm."
"Ok, judging from what Alex showed us. When you tried to soften your landing using air. Your body hit the side of the spell. So instead of pushing yourself up, you skidded across the water. It got mangled then caught between some rocks." Jeff stopped when Jet looked back at him. "What, you asked."
Jet then stopped and looked down. "No, not that. Do you feel rumbling?"
Jeff did not feel the rumbling, however, when he looked down. The water was turbulent and wavy. "Nope, I don't feel that through your ice. But judging from the small waves, I'd say the pillar we're headed towards is vibrating."
Jet, still looking down, frowned. "Whatever it is. I think it's cooling the bottom of that pillar."
Jeff looked down and, sure enough, well down into the water. There was something glowing orange. "Yeah, and I doubt it's supposed to glow like that. What is this place?"
"Let's head to that platform around the pillar and find out." Jet pointed to what looked like metal and not rock. Once they got over to the platform, he created steps out of ice to get up. Luckily it wasn't below the water.

"Jet, I don't think this is a pillar," Jeff said as he rubbed the wall.
"It's a giant computer." Jet whispered beside him.
"How did you come to that conclusion?" Jeff asked.
"It's a giant motherboard. Look, you can see the circuits and wires." Jet pointed at them, and Jeff just raised an eyebrow. "I hung around with my mother a lot. But enough about that, I wonder if there is a console somewhere."
"Since we can see the curve, it shouldn't take long to find out." Jeff pointed at the wall that Jet said was a computer.
Jet took out World Breaker and placed it on the ground. "So we can find our way back. Hopefully, we can get back to where there is still ice, or we may never get back." Then he picked up the sword. "Never mind, I forgot. I can still feel pieces of my arm. Shouldn't be too hard to find our way back."
"Hold up. You can feel the pieces of your missing arm?" Jeff asked.
"How do you think Alex found my arm?" Jet turned and walked off. "Let's figure out what this giant computer is for."
While they walked on the platform, the wall lit up and started to make clicking noises. They were not quiet clicks. They both covered their ears until it stopped. "Told you it is a giant computer."
"Yeah, and it must keep overheating. It feels like it jumped ten degrees when it come back on." Jeff was starting to miss the cooler air.
"Check it out. That looks like a console." Jet pointed ahead of them.
Jeff followed Jet to the console and frowned. "Well, this was pointless. It's written in another language. I should have known that. We're on another world, after all." He shut up when Jet clicked away as if the keyboard was in English.
"We should catch up. Not only can I hear other languages in English. My World Jumper abilities also let me read other languages." While he typed, he frowned. "My right arm would be handy right now. Along with not having duplicate letters on the keyboard."
"Is that a major problem on other worlds?" Jeff asked.
"I've only been to one other world, and no, it wasn't a problem." Jet frowned, looking at the screen. "I'm mostly getting error messages. Also, I hope this number is wrong. This giant computer is running at eighteen hundred degrees Fahrenheit."
"How is it even able to run so hot."
"That's nothing. The coils below us are almost six thousand degrees Fahrenheit. Now, what metal can withstand that kind of heat?" Jet hadn't really asked, but Jeff answered.
"Tungsten," Jeff said.
"I see." Jet pointed at the screen. "Says here that there should be an AI monitoring this terminal." Jet then pulled up another screen. "Are ghost girl's name is GAC-35. She is currently being rebooted. It looks like she is the reason the computer overheated. The amount of power she uses, I have no idea it comes up with more errors."
"Jet, quick question. If this is running so hot. How come we aren't dead from the heat." Jeff mostly wanted to know if Jet was using his magic to cool them that much.
"There is water running through many pipes, or there would be if they hadn't malfunctioned. More water is coming in than the system can drain. Thus all this lovely flood water we got going. You know those pillars we are mining? They are giant coils for cooling the water. That explains the smooth metal I found when making our home. Also explains why there is water in the center of the pillars or coils for cooling the water. But what is this place for?" Jet kept muttering as he typed. His hand moved faster as the minutes ticked by. "No, come on. Stay on." The screen had red messages flashing all over the screen. Before the computer went blank and walls went dark.
"So get anything more before it shut down?" Jeff felt useless at the moment. "Is it getting hotter?"
"Yeah, the system overheated and shut down nonessential systems. Whatever this system does uses an extraordinary amount of power. Of course, the system seems to be constantly overheating. In fact, it can't cool down at all." Jet tried to cross his arms in frustration until he remembered he didn't have both of them.
"So," Jeff started.
"Do you got any food? I'm starving." Jet interrupted him.
Jeff grabbed what he had and then continued. "So, did you find any clue as to what this machine does?"
"Almost. Once it comes back on, I know which direction to go." Jet talked with his mouth full of jerky.
"What about the AI? Can't she help?" Jeff asked.
"Didn't never get done rebooting." Jet frowned at the sound of rushing water. He lit up the area and saw waves forming in the water. "Did the pipes start letting out more water?"
"Do you hear that?" Jeff stood next to Jet.
"No."
"Ok, be quiet while I burn some copper." This time when Jeff used the copper, he burned it hotter slowly. After a few seconds, he swore he could hear rocks crumbling. Then the giant computer slowly clicked. He had just enough time to quit burning copper. "That was close, almost heard that loud click while burning the copper. Anyways, it sounded like falling rocks under the water." Jeff informed Jet between the clicks of the computer.
"Computers back on. I'll check the new errors." Jet walked back over to the terminal and typed like a madman. "This isn't good. Twenty of the water outlets crumbled. No wonder the AI is trying to get our attention." Something popped out of the console, and Jet picked it up. "Turns out the AI was downloading herself to a disc." He waved a crystalline disc in the air and pocketed it. Then he froze as he read the screen.
"What's wrong, Jet? You got a little paler." Jeff looked at the screen, trying to read the messages.
"This can't be. No wonder time feels so off here. Time is about ten times slower. The computer is supposed to speed time up to go faster, but the computer went haywire. It's been left unchecked for who knows how long. How many weeks have we been in this area?" Jet turned and looked at Jeff.
"Around a month, I would guess. A week up top in the mountain. Around three down here, then the three days we were in the capital city as prisoners." Jeff noticed Jet's face fall at the number. "So I'd say if that computer is right. We have been on this world for over a year."
"No," Jet fell to his knees.
"Yeah, we have been gone a long time for people back home." Jeff figured everyone would think they had died how long they'd been gone. He noticed Jet looked really down for some reason. "Don't worry. I'm sure Amanda is waiting for you."
"It's not that." Jet looked up at Jeff. "I missed the birth of my first child."

A series of Transmigrated Misadventures.
This is an original story about a sadistic and scheming human and his defective sometimes malfunctioning cube about how they travel to different worlds with different settings where they make people's lives miserable. Zhang Fei was anything but a normal person. He was a sadistic human who made the lives of his book characters quite miserable so when he died he was bounded to a system by The voice and entered the realm network. He got a second chance at life and could now practically make the character's lives a living hell but he soon found out that there is a downside to being a sadist as well. that's all folks , so the novel is a bit different from the normal system novels you read, the Main charachter isn't a good guy like in most novels, well he isnt a bad guy either, he is just a sadist. But the point is i tried to make the story as different as i could while still keeping the system/trnasmigration formula with it, so i don't know how you will interpret the story but i hope you still read it and enjoy it. i am not chinese so i might have butchered up the chinese names in the novel. and first time writing so if its a little bad please forgive me. And almost forgot any constructive criticism is appreciated. as it helps me know what i am doing right and what i am doing wrong and i have also posted the same story on wattapad.com. enjoy.
