《The New World Rising : How to Build a Dungeon Kingdom》Chapter 5 - Death, and Rebirth as a Dungeon Master

All of us gathered around the gate. The mist started to leak from inside the arch and filled the air. Michel approached the gray, puffy looking mist that filled the clean air of our small habitat in an instant. Shortly after Michel was submerged in the mist, the afternoon was penetrated by his loud screams. We froze for a minute as Barca attempted to step in the mist. As soon as his leg touched the mist, he was pulled inside by something covered in shadows. It was very difficult to see but I was sure I saw a pair of giant bat wings. We heard Barca’s screams shortly before his limbs were thrown out of the mist with an immense power. Barca’s torn arm hit Arno’s head and knocked him unconscious at the edge of the mist. I ran to drag Arno’s body away from the mist by holding his hands. It was too heavy for me to carry as the mist lingered through our home. We faced death so suddenly and it was my fucking fault. If only I did not use that fucking menu, this would not happen... Barca’s blood was spilled all over the ground and Arno’s clothes. The mist caught us because of my weakness. I was trembling with fear and had to leave Arno, laying on the ground, as the mist approached to us silently. I left him and turned my back only to see that I was surrounded by the deadly smoke. I knew I was dead. The mist, or whatever that was in the mist, took Arno’s body and left me with no other choice. I ran towards the entrance of the room the mist came from.
It was impossible to see a thing inside the mist. I felt utterly uneasy as I split the smoke. It was as if the mist surrounding me was preparing for lunch. My heart was about to break my ribcage as it continued to acceleratingly pound inside my chest against the huge pressure outside. The killing intent was increasing as I approached the door. I had a cold sens-

“Wait, where am I? Did I die?” I felt the coldness of the white tiled floor on the soles of my feet. I did not have any clothes on me as I stood in the middle of a high ceilinged room. The room was large and warm, unlike the floor.
“This is your bedroom master.” I turned back to hear where the voice was coming from. I saw a young girl, a bit shorter than me. Her hair was deep black and her skin was pale. She had a small nose in the middle of her face. Her eyes were a color I had never seen before.
“Your eyes…”
“I am a witch, Master.”
“Witch?”
“I am sorry Master, if you do not want a wit-“
“It is not that. I just have not seen a witch before.”
“You have not?!” The girl was surprised. Her facial expression changed slightly but she tried not to make it obvious.
“Why are you surprised?”
“Master, you are the owner of the largest beginning dungeon ever created. I just expected you to be someone who has owned a dungeon before, Master.”
“No, indeed, I have no clue why I am here.”
“You are reborn as a dungeon master. I am your assistant Lilith. I am a level 589 witch from the Southern Cultrusce Islands. This dungeon is yours to own from now on Master. I am in your care.”
“But I have never owned a dungeon before. And I died…”
“It is very normal to be reborn as a dungeon master after death, although it is rare. It is more common in individuals who were summoned to this world, rather than those who were born here.”
“That explains why I found myself in the middle of a forest.”
“How did you die in your past life Master?”
“I was killed by a mist. I do not remember exactly how I died. All I remember honestly is that I was running towards a giant gate that the mist leaked from. There was something like a bat in the mist. It all is because I bought this “Altar of Luck” from the spirit menu.”
“It must be the breath of Kalisto. That is an ancient creature that creeps under the deepest dungeon. It is called the dungeon of luck. But, what I could not comprehend is that what you called ‘spirit menu’ Master. What is that?”

“Oh, I was able to buy stuff from this thing called spirit menu. It is like a screen that appears before me when I think of it. No one else could see it.”
“Interesting. It must be dungeon master’s menu. But… How could you use it before becoming a dungeon master?”
“I was hoping you could tell me.”
She paused for a second with a confused expression on her face.
“You may have had a special skill for that Master.”
“Maybe.” Now that I think about it, I always had the skill “****”. I had not known what it was until it was unlocked when I died. I cannot remember clearly but I guess it was called “Master X”. Maybe that is the skill that let me use the spirit shop and see my character status.
What do we do with this place then?”
“You should increase the population of your dungeon Master. There are several ways to do so. Summoning is one of them. If you have the summoning skill, which is a rare skill among dungeon masters, you can summon minions and increase your dungeon’s population. You can also buy minions from shops. But these shops I am talking about are actual shops. If you leave the dungeon, and go to the underground world, there are slave markets you can visit. They usually have skilled slaves but there are markets for unskilled slaves as well. The ones that buy those slaves are either rich families that want to have a servant under their hand or war chiefs. Dungeon masters are usually not welcomed in these markets but there are ways to sneak in. You can also increase the fame of the dungeon so minions will come here deliberately. Dungeon’s fame increases as it gets more populated, more enemies are killed in it, or as the dungeon master’s strength increases. Dungeon master’s strength similarly increases as the dungeon gets bigger. If you have more space or facilities in the dungeon, your fame will increase, and in turn, dungeon’s fame will increase. Additionally, you can increase your level by increasing your minions’ levels, having more minions, or defeating enemies. Dungeon and dungeon master are alike in this sense.”
“I see. Shall I start by summoning?”
“You have the summoning skill! I know I have not emphasized it a lot, but it is a very rare skill. It takes a long time to gain that skill for dungeon masters and they usually buy the skill paper from underground.”
“What is this underground?”
“Well, every dungeon has two doors. One of them opens up to the outer world, the world of humanly creatures. In outer world, elves, dwarves, beastmen, and humans are gathered around their cities. They aim to claim the underworld. In underworld, or underground, there are tunnels that connect dungeons to each other. It is a giant complex. Tunnels are basically built with spatial magic. They cover a long distance, but it takes a very short time to travel that distance with tunnels. Outerworlders desire this power. They want to be able to use these tunnels to travel around the world. However dungeons are to protect these tunnels. We believe their desire stems from their will to exterminate other nations.”
“Are there any cities in underworld?”
“No, only dungeons.”
“Who lives in the underworld then?”
“Many creatures. Some escape from the outer world like myself, Master. Some are born, summoned, or created here.”
“I see. Shall I begin with summoning some then now?”
I thought about summoning when a list appeared before my eyes. This reminded me of my life before the mist.

Immortal Devil Transformation
Sixty years ago, a middle-aged uncle entered Central Continent's Imperial City, bringing with him a qilin that looked like a sick dog and a mandarin duck. That year, this middle-aged uncle made his way through the Sea of Mountains, passed through Four Season Plains, and then entered Green Luan Academy. Sixty years later, Lin Xi, a carefree seventeen or eighteen year old youngster, traveled from Deerwood Town through half of Yunqin Empire in a shabby carriage, heading north towards Green Luan Academy. This is a story about empire and glory, loyalty and betrayal, youth and hot-bloodedness, a story of a young man who sees the world through a different perspective in a powerful cultivation academy.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

From Fake Dreams
The Magus Killer was dying. He had done all he could to be a Hero and save as many people as he could. He killed his father to do it. He killed his adopted mother to do it. He killed his wife in the hopes to put an end to the need to do it ever again. He failed in rescuing his daughter as a result of his efforts. All he had left was a cursed and failing body, a sizable yet antiquated home in Fuyuki Japan, and his adoptive amnisiac son whose life he had destroyed in the first place. And then the dreams came. Dreams of War, Fire, Curses, unborn Gods, Heroes, and Monsters. Dreams of unresolved conflicts, promises, dreams, and tasks. Dreams with his nearly clueless son in the middle of it all. The Magus Killer was dying. But he could still prepare for what was to come. And fortunately, that was something he was still terrifyingly exceptional at. Currently at chapter 60 on FF.net

The First Half
"Kyran Hall, the Goddess Sada bestows you this gift." With those words, his life changed dramatically. He was granted a System, unique among all others, and abilities unseen before in the world. Granted boundless potential, he and his party would soon rise to prominence, becoming some of the greatest adventurers the world had ever see- *Ahem* Sorry, I've been told by the MC to say he's just an average guy. Nothing special about him. A traditional fantasy story with a (hopefully) new twist on the magic system. There's adventure, combat, monsters, magic, banter, and of course: pork belly. I'm new to writing fiction, and still learning to be more efficient in my brainstorming and editing process. If you have any feedback or suggestions, let me know! If you see any typos, mock me as much as you want because I should feel bad about it.
