《Once Upon a Time in a Foreign Land》Chapter 119 : Duanmu Shanquan

Shanquan kept trying to move forward. But the crowd of people really hindered his pace. Until one time, Shanquan felt someone deliberately bumping their body toward Shanquan.
"Uncle Shanquan!" shouted the person.
Shanquan was still in a half-confused state. He looked at the person who collided with him. In front of him stood a girl wearing a light blue dress.
"Why are you here?" Shanquan glared at the girl.
"Uncle said earlier that you would go to this mall before going home." The girl widened her eyes.
"It's really dangerous. You should stay there until it's safe. At least until we find Xinxiu. I can't take you to your relatives now because I have to go home soon to wait for the news from the kidnappers. Maybe tomorrow or the day after that I can take you. Even if tomorrow I still can't, I already asked Yixiong for help," said Shanquan. "You don't have to worry about that."
"I'm not worried about that." said the girl in the light blue dress, who turned out to be Yingyue.
"Then? What made you follow us here?"
"I'm tired of being in that apartment alone."
"Where's Miss Diwu?" Shanquan looked left and right.
"She's not here." Yingyue bit her lip. "I went here alone."
"Why did she let you out of the apartment?"
Does Caihong know about this?
"I didn't tell her. She was cleaning Brother Caihong's room when I sneaked out." Yingyue said innocently.
"So you ran away from there?"
Yingyue shook her head vigorously. "Absolutely not. I'm just tired of being there alone. Miss Diwu was busy doing her job."
"Whatever your reasons, you can't do that. Miss Diwu must have panicked a lot when she realized you weren't there."

"It's not that I didn't say anything at all. I just didn't say anything directly to her."
"So you left Miss Diwu a message?"
"Yes. I've written a brief letter. I put it on the dressing table in my room. In that letter, I wrote I was following you to the mall near Jongharng Station. I also wrote that later I would go home by myself to the apartment. "
"What if Miss Diwu doesn't check what's on your dressing table?"
"Yeah, that means she doesn't know where I'm going."
Shanquan widened his eyes. He was at a loss as to what to say.
Sometimes this girl is so frivolous.
"If she did not find the letter, I think it is not a big problem. Right now, I have met Uncle. Soon, I will meet with the others, including Brother Caihong. At that time, surely Brother Caihong will call Miss Diwu to tell her I'm fine. After that, Miss Diwu doesn't need to panic anymore. "
"You've just put Miss Diwu in a difficult situation. She can't take care of you. That means she is negligent in carrying out her duties. "
"It's not a big deal. I haven't disappeared either. Miss Diwu need not worry. I'm sure Brother Caihong won't punish her."
"Of course, it's a big problem. It's a matter of responsibility. Even if Caihong didn't blame Miss Diwu, still Miss Diwu would feel guilty," said Shanquan.
Yingyue pouted at Shanquan's words. "Okay! Later I will apologize to Miss Diwu."
Shanquan nodded. "That should be the first thing you do when you get back to the apartment."
Yingyue nodded. She then looked at her palm. She slowly massaged the tip of her index finger.
"What's with your finger?" Shanquan was worried that something bad had happened to the girl. After all, Yingyue was under his tutelage. If something terrible happened, Shanquan did not know how to take responsibility for everything in front of her family.

What should I tell them?
"It's okay. I bumped into someone earlier. After that, I felt a stinging sensation on the tip of my index finger. Maybe that person was carrying a pen or other sharp-pointed object."
Shanquan was shocked. It was no different from what he had just experienced.
Is this just a coincidence?
"Let me see your hand." Shanquan stretched out his hand. He tried to grab the girl's hand.
"I'm fine. Uncle, please don't worry."
"Are you sure?"
Yingyue nodded vigorously. She smiled.
Since Yingyue had said so, Shanquan didn't want to prolong the matter any longer. He quickly withdrew the hand that he just had lent forward. Shanquan thought back to the girl he had chased earlier.
Shanquan looked left and right. The girl he was looking for had utterly disappeared. It's exactly the same as what happened a few days ago. Shanquan sighed. It was improbable that a situation would be repeated in the same place. But that really happened to him.
"What's wrong, Uncle?" Yingyue asked quickly.
Shanquan nodded slightly. He guessed that perhaps the question had arisen after the girl saw he let out a long sigh for no reason.
The girl stared at Shanquan for a few seconds. She seemed genuinely curious what Shanquan's answer would be.
"It's okay. I feel a little difficult to breathe." Shanquan just casually answered.
"I think you really need to see a doctor."
I know. But now is not the right time.
"No need. Maybe my nose is only a little clogged." Shanquan laughed.
"Actually, where are you going to go?"
Ah! I couldn't possibly tell the truth. I can't look like a fool in front of this girl!
"I just looked around. Things that happened a few days ago apparently did not make people afraid to visit this place."
Yingyue looked at Shanquan with an inquirable look.
Surely she feels something is wrong with me! What should I say?
"I think I'd better go back to see the other friends."
"Where are the other uncles?"
Ah! Luckily, she doesn't insist on wanting to know why I was hanging around here.
"They're on the fifth floor. We're ordering food at a restaurant."
Yingyue's face shone brightly. She laughed out loud. "I'm hungry too."
"We won't eat here. We ordered takeout. Time is running out. At half-past twelve, I should be home. I want you to come home with us. I will ask Yixiong to take you to the apartment this afternoon. "
Shanquan didn't have time to hear Yingyue's answer because as soon as Shanquan finished saying those words, unexpectedly, something strange happened. A dazzling bright light suddenly came like lightning, much like a bomb. It's just that there was no sound of explosions and no bits of material being thrown. There was only a blinding flash of light.

The Good Crash: An Oral History of the Post-Scarcity Collapse
"Don't we all feel, deep down, that we deserve the apocalypse?" APRIL, 2028—Global capitalism has collapsed. America has sealed itself off from the outside world, and inside its borders, a revolution rages. All it took was one incredible little machine. That machine turned into two, then four, then eight... like a virus, the replicators spread. As a work of oral history, The Good Crash features over 50 interviews with key witnesses to the events of 2027. The text is rendered in the words used by the interviewees themselves, with light editing for clarity and concision. As such, the book contains language and themes that are not appropriate for children.By capturing the voices to the people at the very root of the revolution, journalist and historian R. Vondersnitch has traced the origins and aftermath of the replicators' rapid spread. Crucially, the book also includes perspectives and testimony from those who attempted to stop the spread of the reps. "Some of these are heroes, too, in their own ways," the author writes in the book's introductory note.

The Orb Weaver Chronicles
"The Orb Weaver Chronicles contains several major and unique events that may or may not unknowingly intertwines with one another. The author of these chronicles is unknown, although some have hinted at the symbolism behind its name..." - Year unknown, location unknown 9 February 2022 Update: Welcome to the companion short story compilation of my novel trilogy The Shadow Paradigm. This compilation features prequels, sidequels and sequels to the novel's major plotline, as well as featuring a wide range of characters, new and recurring. Prior knowledge of the novel is not necessary as the Orb Weaver Chronicles' short stories are standalone. Once called The Arkesyyan Chronicles, I've deleted quite a few of its old stories. Due to the new avenue and revision, oriented toward more mystery and film-noir ambience, that I took my stories into, I've removed all aliens and overly sci-fi aspects of the whole TSP lineup, so I've updated the Orb Weaver Chronicles accordingly. I hope you enjoy them, and in time, a revised version will also be updated.

The Errant Otherworlder Watanabe
“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes and trucks whom transport men to other worlds.” Meet our titular protagonist Haruto Watanabe, a man who has all the markings of a good protagonist for a generic portal fantasy story. As an overworked office worker, to escape from the grips of crippling capitalist alienation, he had taken up to reading many stories where young men like him were transported to other worlds and enjoyed their lives at a most leisurely pace. Armed with genre-awareness and (what he believes to be) a marketable personality which would make him an easy audience self-insert, he longed for the day the isekai express would take him to his long-awaited adventure to another world. When the fateful day came, where the fair yet harsh mistress that is the fabled truck took Watanabe on one last date to the other side, he was most ready to escape his previous life, ready to embark on an errant so great he’d be most overpowered, his heroics so exceptional and his harem so vast that they would barely fit ten or twenty volumes of an overly long novel made by a desperate author looking for quick cash. Lo and behold however, Watanabe instead found himself in a low fantasy world which lacked severely in the department of any game-like systems, cheat skills or easily charmed damsels in distress. In a setting so antithetical to his established genre savviness or any attempts at power fantasy, how will a man like Watanabe, lacking in strength, wits and courage, manage to survive in a land most foreign to him? This is my first time trying to share to the wider world what I’ve written, and I hope you’ll enjoy reading the errantry of Watanabe as much as I enjoy writing about them. I'll be posting one chapter per week on Sundays, along with extra chapters whenever I get the chance to write more than usual.
