《Villain Tries Farming: A LitRPG Adventure》Chapter 94: The Time Bomb

The zombie queen, Dieana, had come on a visit to the palace, after receiving news of my accomplishment.
She claimed to be exceedingly impressed with us. Somewhat awkwardly I received her. From the time I had been buying seeds from the zombies, I had always felt uncomfortable in her presence. There was something in her eyes that I did not like–a hint of desire.
Desire for me.
Even though Dieana had helped me immensely, yet I preferred keeping my distance from her. But here I was now, walking two feet from her, uneasily aware of the lust in her undead gaze for me.
The day was dragging at snail pace. Kiara was busy at her job in the real world, or else she would have been furious at the zombie queen’s obvious attempts at invading my personal space. A few too many instances our bodies had rubbed against each other, much to my displeasure.
“Why don’t you come over to our village to stay for some time?” Dieana said with a charming smile. Her flirtatious behavior was really getting on my nerves.
“Eh, I will think about it,” I said, focused on keeping my replies as brief as possible.
My mind was computing ways to ask the queen to depart from the castle without coming off as rude. I was not having a lot of success.
“I must say, it took us, the zombies, far longer to achieve neutrality compared to you,” Dieana continued, not discouraged by my reluctance to continue conversation with her. “I must say, I really admire you!” She had repeated a variation of that line no less than ten times since her arrival.
I didn’t respond but made a small smile.
“It’s odd, isn’t it?” she said with a quick wink. “I am the queen of the zombies without a king, and you are the king of the ‘neutral monsters’. Neither I have a king, nor you have a queen!” And she laughed airily like she had made a great joke.

Okay, this was too much.
“I have a queen, actually, a would-be queen,” I said. “And her name is Kiara.”
“You do?” the zombie queen said, rolling her eyes and looking away. “I never knew! I am so surprised.”
To think about it, I had never taken Kiara to the zombie village. Maybe the queen wasn’t aware I already loved somebody? She just had an innocent attraction for someone who had achieved neutrality.
But a second glance at the queen’s face made me doubt my thoughts. Perhaps she knew about Kiara all along? She may have asked some of her undead followers to spy on me. No big deal for her.
“May I ask where she is?” Dieana queried good naturedly.
“She is in the real… she is in a different world,” I said to her, not sure if the queen knew about the real world.
“In a different world?” Dieana said with some genuine surprise. She might know Kiara was frequently away from me, but probably didn’t have much information regarding where Kiara went.
“Yes, she has got her own work to do,” I said. “But she comes to me every night.”
The queen winced with jealousy at these words.
“Very well,” she said, sour. “Do let me meet her someday.”
It was then that a monster hurried into the castle.
“Vicky!” he said, hardly able to contain his excitement. “We have found something. Something strange!”
“Something strange?” I said.
“It’s in the new farm we were setting up in the east of town,” the monster said. He was bathed in sweat. I wondered why one of the speedy Mantures had not come with the message instead. But then, Mantures could fly but not speak. A mind message definitely could have been used though. But the monsters generally hesitated from intruding on the privacy of my mind.

Dieana and I went with the monster.
When we reached the new farm, we found a crowd gathered around it. There was a big metallic sphere at least five times the size of a soccer ball in the middle of the farm.
The monsters informed me that they had been ploughing the land when they had found the metallic object. Runic symbols were inscribed all over its surface.
I went closer to the sphere, the zombie queen following in my wake. This time she was more drawn to the metal ball than me.
I knelt down next to the object. The giant orb possessed a white button on one side that I realized was a small clock. The hands were ticking.
“What could it be?” Dieana asked from behind.
“How can I know?” I said somewhat irritably, and then regretted my rude tone. I was indebted to the queen for all her help and ultimately I didn’t want to disrespect her.
I tapped the small clock with a finger. There was a ‘click’ and the timepiece was drawn into the sphere.
A blue rectangle blocked my vision.
You have activated one of the Time Bombs of Dharti.
It will now explode in… 10… 9… 8…
What the hell! This was a bomb? All the alarm bells went off in my head.
I turned to my monsters and screamed.
“RUN! It’s going to explode!”
I took to my heels, so did the confused zombie queen. The monsters too rushed to save their skin.
If I had better sense during that instant then I would have become a manture and flown away or perhaps I would have become a Stone Giant and leapt to safety. But the suddenness of the moment impaired my judgement.
The bomb exploded.
The powerful shock wave threw me on top of Dieana, and a split second later, we were all enveloped by a blue light. I was confused, for I had thought the bomb would incinerate us.
Soon, I became aware of something peculiar–I could not move my body at all!
The blue light had frozen us. I couldn’t even move my eyeballs and as a result the horrified face of the queen was stuck in my vision. Yet, I was still conscious.

Surprisingly, in the fantasy LitRPG genre. A girls death forms the foundation for a plan centuries in the making. But when she shakes off their control, and forces the plans of beings millenia old to change, can she avoid being tied up as a loose end? With only what she could take with her in her mind, and a new body with surprising depths, she begins her new life in a world unlike her own. This is my first writing project in almost a decade, so there is going to be a lot of improvements from me as I shake off the rust. And of course, as the world I'm creating comes to life! So if you like the concept, please bear with me, and hopefully I'll reach the high standards I know you have. Edit (04/04/2018): Witness the power of my complete lack of any artistic talent! There is now cover art for this fiction. Its just barely better than the default, but hey, minimalism is in, right?

Void Breaker
Note: Sadly, this story is currently on hiatus :( Elizabeth Sayler had lost everything in the bombing of Reaver Stadium. Her career, her fame, her power — all of it vanished the moment she lost use of her legs. Now, she's beginning to lose hope of ever healing herself… until her world integrates into the Void. When the apocalypse comes in a flurry of System messages, everyone on earth is given a choice: give up what they value most in themselves, and acquire a path to their heart’s greatest desire. Most would hesitate, but for Liz? She has nothing to lose, and absolutely everything to gain. Armed with newfound powers in a world teeming with monsters, she’s determined to not only survive, but to somehow break the Void’s endless assault. * * * This is a small note about the portrayal of disability in this story. As much research as I do and as many people as I ask, I will in the end only be able to understand a small portion of paraplegia and similar disabilities. Therefore, if there is anything particularly disrespectful, please do not hesitate to contact me. I always intended to portray disability in a respectful way in this story, but please know that Liz as a character does not start out with a healthy view of disability. This is intentional, and a large part of her character development comes from this view changing as she learns. Disability is not something she simply "discards" at the beginning of the story, but an ongoing theme and a part of her journey.

The Gatekeeper
Quick Synopsis:This is the story of Reylor, a god-like existence who lost a great portion of his strength when accidentally sent from his “home” to another world. Making friends and learning to harness to power of magic, he maintains his commitment to his prior duty and proceeds to fight against corruption, both on a political front and against what is known as the shade.(Note, this story focuses on action and adventure, so politics are not in depth) This has been my first novel, which was primarilly inteded as a learning experience, and so it may be a bit rough in regards, but it should definitely be readable and it is a full story. I may make some adjustments to it later on, but there's no guarantee... anyhow, it's free to read, so give it a go! Also, feel free to check out my new website: aretornovels.wordpress.com

At The Lions Gate
In the 20th century America reinvented itself. Devastated by depression, scarred by war, rocked by a revolution, Americans banded together to preserve their country and their freedom. They had faith in themselves, faith in one another, and for those who believed…faith in God. This novel tells the story of one American who lived through those turbulent years….years that would test his character and the character of a nation. For Josh Sanders it begins in 1935. A star athlete in school, pro football is a ticket out of poverty during the Great Depression; but when his father, a WWI veteran, is killed during a robbery, Josh’s spirit is broken, and with it his boyhood dream. To honor his father Josh joins the war effort in 1942, distinguishing himself as a fighter pilot, until a fateful decision near the end of the war changes the course of his life once again. But many years later, after a stint as a boxer and a failed marriage, Josh finds his calling…at a time when the country is at war with itself. The year is 1968. King and Kennedy have been killed, race riots are breaking out, and Vietnam has become an albatross, causing massive protests across the country. In the streets of San Francisco Josh watches a crowd of students march for peace. As a veteran he’s conflicted, toward the war and those who oppose it. But when he encounters Rosy Goldin, a spirited young protester in need of help, a voice from the past calls him to action. His good intentions are soon tested when Rosy falls in love with the fugitive anti-war activist Erick White, a young man determined to oppose the war at all costs, against the wishes of his own father. Fearful of what happens to Rosy, Josh confronts Erick, unwilling to be part of his plan to escape…until he meets the boy’s father. A high-powered criminal attorney, Karl White is also a flag-waving patriot demanding that his son follow the law. But as White makes his case Josh is jolted by a painful war-time memory, a crisis of conscience that will soon determine the fate of Rosy Goldin and Erick White.
