《MY Sweet Interlude》21- Mothers knows best

Aliya decided to spend the weekend with her mother. She had spent the night before watching My Bestfriends Wedding on Netlix, after turning down Yuna's offer to go clubbing with them again. The movie hit a tender spot in her heart that she started crying from the wedding scene until the end. She's seen the movie a number of times before but last night had been the only time it made such an impact on her. Her friends were busy with work again so she didn't want to bother them. Yoongi didn't contact her since that day when he had breakfast with Jimin at her place. That day turned out better than she thought it would since both men behaved just like they normally would. She did notice Jimin watching Yoongi more closely specially when he is close to Aliya. Yoongi, never touched her while their friend was around. He did talk to her more which Jimin said was something that he needs to get used to when he texted her when he left her place.
"I'm glad to see you're eating well." So-Young told her daughter as they ate lunch when she arrived at their place.
"I miss your cooking. It doesn't taste the same when I cook it." Aliya replied stuffing her mouth with the dumplings her mom made.
When they finished cleaning up after their meal, So-Young told her she wanted to tell her something.
"You know your Dad has been gone for quite a while now and I will always love him. You've been pushing me to go out with someone for a long time and I thought I'd give it a try. I am seeing someone regularly and I think I like him." She paused before adding, "You're a smart girl and I hope you'll understand and accept him for me."
"Who is he?" Aliya asked. She knew her mother had been loyal to her dad even if he passed away for more than twelve years now. She's guilty that she had to live away from her knowing she is alone at their place even if she is busy at the hospital. Of course she understood and is genuinely happy for her mother. Seeing how her parents loved each other when her dad was alive is enough for her to know her mother loved her dad with all her heart. Wasn't she thinking about this the other day, she thought.
"Dr. Ahn." Her mother replied.
Aliya knew who he is. He was constantly around whenever she'd come home on certain weekends for the past weeks and she never thought much about it thinking he is just another friend of hers. He is a nice man, never married although he was in his mid-50s. He's a surgeon in the same hospital as her mom. He was also the same doctor her mom was recommending to her who'd remove her tonsils. She trusts her mom's judgement for whatever decision she makes.

"The most important part is that he treats you well and he is a nice person. I am happy for you mom." Aliya said as she hugged her mother.
"I am constantly praying that you'd be happy too dear. I wanted to tell you two weeks ago but I held it back because you were so down about Taehyung's wedding." She cupped the side of her daughter's face, a habit Aliya got as well. "One day, you'll find the right one for you and all the tears you've shed are nothing but a sad memory."
Aliya opened up to her mother about what happened with Taehyung that day at the hotel, although she eliminated the part that she kissed him. She is close to her mom and she tells her everything but it's too awkward to tell her that. "I just, don't know how to face Taehyung when he comes back." She told her mom because the newly weds were going to arrive that night, and that was also a factor why she decided to go home.
"Just face him the way you normally would. You're determined to move on and will not just get stuck with your feelings for him. You've known each other your entire life, the bond you have is strong and it will not just get wrecked easily."
Aliya was grateful for coming home. Listening to her mother's advice always have helped her. There would be times when they'd drive each other crazy but there were more good days than bad.
Her mom also told her if she'd like to have dinner with Dr. Ahn that night and she said she would love to. She wanted to know more about the man her mom decided to take the chance of going out with again after her dad.
They went to the mall to find Aliya something to wear for dinner. Even though she still had some of her clothes in her room, she wanted to treat her daughter and shop for her. While her mom was driving, she suddenly opened a topic she hoped her mom had forgotten.
"When would you like to see Soo-yon's son?" Her mom asked, referring to her friend that Aliya met at Taehyung's wedding.
"Mother, not just yet please. I won't forget that last date you've set me up with." The guy she went out with was average looking but was a bit on the heavier side and he was just too full of himself. He enters the room, and he feels as if everyone's eyes were on him. When he met Aliya, he expected that she'd fall in love with him at first sight. During dinner, all he talked about was himself and the women that he dated and how they begged and cried for him not to end their relationship. He then took her to a club where she got introduced to his friends as "his girl". Aliya had to text for her friends to rescue her. She was relieved that they came. Jimin and Jungkook were in the area, so they got to her quickly. Jimin was very convincing when he pretended to be her jealous ex-boyfriend while Jungkook scared the crap out of her blind date and his friends. Crazy part of the story was when he told his mom that Aliya wasn't his type which is why he didn't want to go out with her again. Jimin and Jungkook thought that was so hilarious which is why she never got to hear the end of it.

"I just want to help you find the right guy for you." Her mother replied.
"Mom, I am not looking for one right now. When the right guys come, he just comes." Aliya replied.
"Just don't shut the door for other men." Her mother replied.
Aliya wanted to tell her about Yoongi, but she isn't sure if her mom would understand the friends with benefits kind of relationship. Specially when her mom is friends with his parents too. She'll keep it for now, she's struggling to tell her about her kissing Taehyung as it is let alone tell her that she is sleeping with one of her friends is way too much.

"Nice." So-young told her daughter when she came out of the room inspecting her daughter's lavender dress. "You made the right choice with that."
"Thanks Mom, it's always nice shopping with you because you're a great critic. I swear, if you were not a doctor, you're a designer or something. You've got a great eye on clothes."
"You're flattering your mother too much my dear." So-young laughed at her daughter.
When Dr. Ahn arrived, Aliya had her thoughts confirmed about his face and physique. He looks younger than his age just like her mother and he is quite a striking looking man as well. She saw the way how he and her mom looked at each other and there's no doubt they were in love. She could see her mom smiling more with him. She deserves to be happy. She remembers how she mourned for her dad when he passed away. She didn't want her to grow old alone.
They had dinner in a fancy restaurant and Aliya got to see more of Dr. Ahn's personality. He had a great sense of humor and radiates a warm energy that made Aliya feel comfortable with him. He is definitely a good match for her mother. He also reminded Aliya to get her tonsils removed as soon as possible before it worsens. She promised to book a medical leave so that she gets the procedure done.
They were making their way out of the restaurant when they bumped into the Mins, Yoongi's parents. They greeted Dr. Ahn because he was the one who did Mr. Min's gall stone surgery the year before. They knew So-Young before that through Taehyung's parents.
"You are friends with my son, aren't you? I saw you two dancing during Taehyung's wedding." Mrs. Min said smiling at Aliya.
"Yes ma'am." Aliya replied with a bow. She felt her cheeks slightly getting hot as she thought of that night and the relationship she has with their son after. "We uh, usually all hang out together."
"He is supposed to join us tonight, but he said he's tied up at work." Mr. Min added.
"That means he is dedicated to his job which is good." Dr. Ahn commented.
Mrs. Min sighed, "I hope he is really working today as he said he is and not just be running around with some girl. Help me keep an eye on him will you my dear?" Mrs. Min said as she reached out to touch Aliya's hand.
"I'll do my best." Aliya squeaked feeling both embarrassed and guilty over the fact that she is one of the girls his son is hooking up with. With Mrs. Min holding her hand, it made her feel more remorseful.
"Your daughter is so pretty So-Young, I wish my Yoongi would notice that. He needs someone who will make him think of settling down rather than fooling around. " She sighed before turning to Aliya "I won't mind having you as my daughter in law." Mrs. Min said with a smile that was an exact copy of her sons.
Aliya was a hundred percent sure that her face was bright pink now feeling how hot her face was. So-Young placed an arm around her daughter's shoulder. "I am also waiting for the day Aliya meets the right man for her."
"Aish, you're embarrassing the poor girl." Mr. Min told his wife. "Well, we won't keep you from what you're about to do anymore. We're also dropping by our other son's house to see our grandkids before they go to bed, so we better leave."
They all said their goodbyes and when they drove back home, Aliya was glad their topic was not about her or what Mrs. Min had said. Dr. Ahn, who insisted she calls him uncle, stayed at their place and chatted with Aliya about her job and her plans of taking her masters. She's contemplating whether she should take it in Seoul or back in California again. He gave her a good advice on weighing the pros and cons and see where she feels would benefit her the most. When it was getting late, he said goodnight to Aliya and her mother. She thought she should give them some privacy, so she excused herself to her room.

Meek
After failing as an apprentice cooper and a town guard, Eli finds his place at the Rockbridge archives. Sure, he's the oldest 'junior scribe,' but he likes the job. And he's good at it, too. Then he completes an apparently-insignificant project, and the brutal reaction shocks him--with consequences that eventually shake the world. Eli gains powers. Rare and inhuman abilities. He progresses slowly, steadily, and not without setbacks. He changes, too. Is he a hero, a villain, a human, a monster? Depends who you ask. Meek is an epic fantasy with elements of progression. The basic magic is simple: five Paths, each with a different powerset. However, complexity arises from combinations, and the protagonist wields a magic all his own. Meek is set in the Valley, the only (as far as anyone knows) human empire that survived a Final Battle against a terrible foe. The Valley is warded against infiltration, but the enemy learned how to warp human souls, to foment discord within. However, another soul is also ... changed. Perhaps even 'warped.' And that soul is starting on a long (long, long) path that might, one day, prove that the Final Battle wasn't so final after all.
