《The Unexpected [M.E]》6

Her eyes widened and her heartbeat increased. Matt's here? Why the hell...
"Hey! I missed ya Dust," She heard his voice and saw him wrap his strong arms around her. She felt jealousy course through her like a hungry appetite. Slowly, she closed the laptop and stood up. When Matthew walked in, he saw his dark haired best friend intensively staring at him.
"What are you doing here?" She asked. Matthew was surprised by the coldness of her voice. Laura was never cold. And when she was, you had to be cautious. Because that meant, she was an easy ticking bomb.
"What no hug?" He innocently asked her, arms opened to her. Home. That was her first thought. So she pushed aside her anger, she pushed aside her bitterness, and bottled it up till he left.
His arms wrapped tightly around Laura's rather tall, yet not too tall frame. Laura's arms went around his neck and his arms around her waist. The hug was quick yet it made her stomach flipped. He smelt of Apple and some designers cologne. When they pulled back, she saw Dusty in the corner of her eye smirking. She only rolled her eyes.
Dusty always knew about Laura's feelings towards Matt. She kept it a secret the whole two years before he left. And she had to be there for her best friend because the only guy that she fell for, left suddenly.
Dusty watched Laura and Matt have a small conversation before Laura called Dusty's name to order more pizza.
Laura let Matt sit beside her. She opened her laptop and surfed YouTube while he looked. "So you still mad at me?" Laura just shaked her head. "Nope."
Matthew just nudged her shoulder. "Well... I guess we'll have to see about that."

"Yo, Dust!"
"Yeah?" Dusty called back to Matt. She closed her phone. Hands on her hips as she stared at the ash blond guy.
"Since you're both here... might as well drop the bomb." Laura had a stomach clenching feeling and she stopped breathing for a moment. Until he spoke. "I wanna take you guys on my next tour." Laura choked on her breath and looked at him.
"What?! Matt... are you freaking serious right now? Don't you dare mess with me," He chuckled at her excitement and nodded. "I'm dead serious. Both of y'all are coming with me.... that's if you want though." Laura looked at her best friend, both with wide eyes.
Dusty then looked at Matthew. "Uh, hell yes. I wouldn't pass that on." Matthew clasped his hands then looked at Laura. Her breath caught in her throat at how beautiful and mesmerizing he was up close. She never noticed the small things till now.
Till now.
"I-yeah of course," Laura felt the biggest grin on her face and it actually hurt. But the good kind of hurt.
Matt patted her thigh and then smiled. "Perfect." Laura felt like screaming and jumping up and down like a damn freshman because he had done that.
Holy crap I need to calm my feelings. Now. Like right now. She thought to herself. She knew if she was going with him on the tour that she couldn't let her feelings get in the way, because she knew they were only best friends. Only. Nothing else. So Laura just sucked it up and smiled back. "Indeed Matty Boy," The door bell rang and signaled the pizza was here. Dusty paid and brought it in front of them.
While they were eating Dusty spoke up first. "So Matt, how did you know the way here?"

"Came here with Lo," He answered nonchalantly. Laura just hid her grin with the pizza as she looked at her best friend. Dusty gave her the 'details later' look and Laura just blinked rapidly.
"Oh, I see. Y'all be forgetting me already." Dusty made a hurt face and took a bite of her pizza. "Nah, you were just too lazy to come and see it when I bought the damn place."
Before Dusty replied Matthew's phone rang and he held up his finger while sliding the lock to open it up. "Hello?"
"What's up Nash?" Laura's stomach churned at the name. Hate him. She thought to herself. Not only did she hate him. She knew he was a bad influence on Matty.
"A'it man, I'll be there in a little bit." With that he closed the line and looked at both of his best friends with a sorry look. "Sadly I have to go. But I will text Lo with the details about the tour. Y'all just be packed by this Thursday. Two days guys, is that enough time?" He chuckled while standing up. They both nodded and Laura spoke,
"Don't die dude, okay? I might call you." Matthew gave her a toothy grin.
"Course could never die on you." With that they all yelled goodbye and Matt left Laura's house. Dusty stood up immediately and dropped her pizza on her plate. "I want fucking details right now."
Ah damn.

Don Simpson is the cartoonist-creator of the satirical comic book series Megaton Man and Bizarre Heroes, and the sci-fi graphic novel Border Worlds. Her smart, savvy, sassy tone makes her the perfect narrator for these never-before-told stories and ongoing adventures, as she meets these characters for the first time." Mature themes include sexual relationships, drug use, and some strong language. New chapter every Tuesday 10:00 am EST US (15:00 UTC). Dark Winter
It is always darkest before the dawn. After the divorce, Katie Fox was forced to live with her mother in New York after the judge ruled that her father, a former Army Ranger, wasn’t stable enough. They called him ‘that crazy bunker guy’ or ‘that paranoid freak.’ Whatever they called him, Christopher Fox was a Prepper. He taught those willing to listen how to survive in a catastrophe and how to prepare for the end of the world. More than that though, he was her father and she would rather spend her life in his underground bunker than another minute in that New York highrise. So, she ran away. The date is November 28th, Black Friday and hell has been unleashed on the world. A freak storm mixes with a deadly virus that turns its victims into mindless hunters of flesh. Katie will have to use everything her father taught her to survive and reach the safety of his underground bunker. Note from the author: Thanks for stopping by! The plan is to upload a chapter every Saturday or Sunday (as my schedule allows). Hope you enjoy the story!

Shadowrun: Blake Island School of Magic
It's a high tech, low life. It's the Seattle Metroplex in 2074. It rises like a steel and concrete cancer out of the earth. Poverty is rampant, corruption is everywhere, crime is out of control, corporations basically control everything, the old United States is fractured, magic has come back and now it turns out that humanity has been joined by elves, dwarves, orks and trolls. The old world ended but the rent is still due. Life goes on. You'd be surprised what people can adapt to, especially if they don't have a choice. One of the places where life goes on is just west of Seattle. Surrounded by the waters of the Puget Sound is an island. On that island is the Blake Island School of Magic. A decade ago it was known for producing some of the most talented awakened in the world. That reputation was hijacked by the wealthy corporate elite who now park their teenage children there. And since it's a boarding school, their parents mostly forget about them. Three young people, who are certainly not wealthy or elite, are chosen this year to attend this school of magic in hopes of revitalizing their reputation for talent. One from the ash drifts of the Puyallup Barrens, one from the most densely populated slum hive in the world and one from prison. This is their story. -- This story is set in the Shadowrun universe. If you're not familiar with Shadowrun, it mostly tells the stories of deniable mercenaries called shadowrunners in a cyberpunk dystopia. Instead of telling another story solely about shadowrunners, this story will tell the tale of young people navigating a world that is indifferent to them at best and actively hostile at worst. Shadowrunners will be in the story and we'll see them operate, but they won't be its main focus. This story originally began in 2017 as a passion project and continues to this day on the Somethingawful.com forums. The unedited version is over a million words strong. There are currently seven books in this series and I am currently in the process of editing them. If you read this story then you won't lack for content. -- The Topps Company, Inc. has sole ownership of the names, logo, artwork, marks, photographs, sounds, audio, video and/or any proprietary material used in connection with the game Shadowrun.
