《The Monster Inside ➺ Scott. M》chapter 16

Astrid, Lydia, Isaac and Deaton were all sitting down on the cold floor, waiting for the three to wake up.
"When do you think they'll wake up?" Astrid asked them.
"Soon, hopefully" Lydia answered, smiling slightly as Astrid.
"Umm... I want to give you guys these" Astrid said as she took out three bracelets. "I will give them theirs later." She said as she handed them the bracelets. They were black with a letter 'M' on them. The M had a bit of Vervain inside, to protect the mortals.
"Thank you." Lydia said.
"Since we had some vampires here before, I figured that I should give you these. They have vervain inside. No vampire will be able to compel you so never take them off" she compelled Isaac and Lydia who sat in front of them.
"We'll never take them off" they said at the same time as they put them on. Deaton put his on as well.
"What do you mean compel us?" Lydia asked.
"Vampires can compel people. They can make people do whatever they want but vervain makes them weaker and they can't compel those who drink it or wear it. This bracelet will protect you." Astrid explained and Deaton smiled slightly at the vampire.
"How do you know all that?" Isaac asked.
"I've met a few vampires in my life" Astrid answered.
"Thank you" Isaac and Deaton said and Astrid nodded.
------
The silence in the animal clinic was interrupted when the three teenagers woke up, gasping and getting out of the tubs. Everyone walked towards the tub.
"I saw it. I know where it is." Scott panted.
"Yeah, we passed it. There was this stump. This huge tree. Well, it's not huge anymore. It was cut down. But it's still big though. Very big." Stiles said.
"It was the night we were looking for the body." Scott added.
"Yeah, the same night you were bit by Peter."
"I was there, too, in the car with my mother. We almost hit someone" Allison said.
"It was me. You almost hit me." Scott told Allison. "We can find it."
Deaton, Astrid, Lydia and Isaac looked at each other, unsure of what to say
"What?" Allison asked.
"You guys were out a long time" Isaac told the three teenagers.
"How long is a long time?" Stiles asked.
"Sixteen hours" Deaton answered Stiles' question.
"We were in the water for sixteen hours?" Scott asked shocked.
"And the full moon rises in less than four" Deaton stated.
-------
"No, dude. You are not going back with them." Stiles told Scott.
"I made a deal with Deucalion" Scott said, leaning on a tub.
"Does anyone else think that sounds a lot like a deal with a devil?" Stiles asked everyone.
"Why does it matter anyway?" Isaac asked.
"Because I still don't think we can beat Jennifer without their help." Scott answered.
"He trusts you more than anyone. Tell him he's wrong." Allison said.
"I'm not so sure he is" Deaton told Allison. "Circumstances like this sometimes require that you align yourself with people you'd normally consider enemies."
"So we're gonna trust him, the guy that calls himself "death, destroyer of worlds"?" Isaac asked.

Astrid snorted at the comment and everyone looked at her. "Sorry" she muttered.
"I wouldn't trust him, no. But you can use him to your advantage. Deucalion may be the enemy but he could also be the bait." Deaton said.
The door opened and Deaton walked away, heading to the entrance to see who has entered the clinic. He saw Ethan. "I'm looking for Lydia."he said.
Everyone walked towards Deaton, looking at Ethan. "What do you want?" Lydia asked.
"I need your help." Aiden answered.
"With what?" Stiles asked.
"Stopping my brother and Kali." Ethan stated. "From killing Derek."
--------
Is she actually gonna come down here and slash all of our throats?" Melissa asked the two men.
"Nah" sheriff sighed. "She'll come down and strangle us with a garrote and then slash our throats."
The whole room then started shaking, Melissa looked at Chris scared.
"Its just the wind" he comforted her.
---------
"We know about the lunar eclipse" Ethan told Derek, Peter and Cora. Lydia standing at his side. "So don't think Kali's gonna sit around waiting for it to level the playing field. She's coming. My brother's coming with her."
"Good enough for me, Derek?" Peter asked Derek.
"You want me to run?" Derek asked.
"No." Peter said quietly. "I want you to stay and get slaughtered by an alpha with a psychotic foot fetish. Of course I want you to run! Sprint, gallop, leap your way the hell out of this town."
"If you wanna fight and die for something, that's fine with me." Cora told her brother. "But do it for something meaningful."
"How do you know I'm gonna lose?" Derek asked, his voice calm as he spoke.
"We don't. But I'll bet she has an idea." Peter said, looking at Lydia. "Don't you Lydia?" He walked closer to her.
"I don't know anything" she answered.
"But you feel something, don't you?"
"What do you feel?" Derek asked the redhead.
"I feel like" she paused, looking at the ground. "I'm standing in a graveyard."
-------
Isaac, Scott, Allison and Astrid walked out of an elevator, entering Allison's apartment.
"Stiles I'm not smelling your dad's boxers. Socks? Fine, I'll smell his socks." Scott told Stiles over the phone.
"What about me?" Isaac asked.
"See what you can find in my dad's closet. Anything with a strong scent." Allison told him.
Allison entered her father's office, surprise on her face as she saw three men. Two police officers standing behind an F.B.I agent.
"Quite an arsenal your father's got here, young lady" the F.B.I pointed at the weapons on the desk.
Scott walked towards the room, standing behind Allison.
"Scott." The F.B.I said as he stood up.
"What are you doing here?" Scott asked.
"Following one of the only leads I have. Now, since I don't know where you've been, why don't you have a seat? We can talk." Scott's father, the F.B.I agent paused. "You too, Isaac."
Isaac walked towards Scott and Allison looking at the men in the office. "How do you know my name?"

"Your name is one of the few things I know. To be honest, the rest of what's going on around here has me stumbling in the dark, even over the smallest clue."
"If you're trying to tell me that you don't have a clue, I learnt that a long time ago" Scott said as he entered the office.
"I'm really hoping to avoid the embarrassment of dragging my own son into the interrogation room. Really hoping"
Allison and Isaac also entered the room as Astrid quietly exited the apartment. Leaving the building.
------
An alarm was beeping loudly in Derek's apartment so Kali kicked it off the wall, Turning it off. Aiden standing behind her.
"Where is he?" Kali asked Ethan and Lydia who stood together in the big room, leaning on a table.
"I think he said he was heading out to do some shopping, run a few errands" Lydia said, trying to make something up. "The usual werewolf afternoon."
"Who do you think you're talking to?" Kali asked.
"Someone in desperate need of a pedicure. I'd be happy to give you a referral" Lydia told the female alpha.
Kali growled at Lydia but stopped when she heard Aiden growling at her. She turned around and looked at him. "Oh, really? Did someone take their little assignment too seriously?" Kali asked Aiden as she walked around him.
"She's not the problem" Aiden sighed.
"Maybe the problem is where your loyalties lie."
"Oh, God! Is this about to get really violent?" Lydia asked Ethan.
"Probably" he answered.
---------
"I'm back, Nick!" Astrid said as she entered her mansion. When she entered the livingroom she saw Nick with his and Astrid's luggage. "What's going on?" Astrid asked her brother, confused.
"Oh.. after all this is over, we're both going back to Mystic Falls" Klaus told his sister. "Everyone misses you".
"They can live without me, brother." She told him as she sat on a couch.
"That's true but you can still visit. Of course, you can come back here after a week or two. To be honest, I need you because you, Elena and Salvatores aren't on bad terms. Isn't that right, sister?" He asked his little sister.
"Okay..." she sighed. "Me and Damon are friends. Elena doesn't really have anything against me and vice versa. However, I'm not too fond of Stefan. I never really liked him" she said as she poured some whiskey into a glass. "I'll come with you. But I'm coming back after a couple of weeks. I do quite miss our siblings." She said as she drank her drink.
Klaus sat on the other couch in front of her and also poured himself some whiskey. "Alright then, Rebekah will be happy to see you again".
"Yup..." Astrid sighed loudly "I bet she already has a new lover" Astrid laughed with her brother.
"You two were never close" Nik said.
"Yeah. Mainly because I get along better with men rather than women. I don't hate her, I sometimes even wish I was like her." Astrid stated and Niklaus raised an eyebrow. "She falls in love so easily whereas, the rest of us doesn't fall in love with anyone for decades. We spend our whole lives hating most people. She enjoys her long life with many, sharing her love"
"Love is a vampire's greatest weakness, sister" Klaus paused. "But we did love a few people in our lives. Certainly less than our little sister but we did love at certain points in our lives. Your last love was in New Orleans if I remember correctly. It was just before we had to run from our father"
"Yes. 1920s... I loved that time period." Astrid looked up at the ceiling. "I wonder what she's doing now. Stella was such a happy soul. She saw good in everyone, even us." Astrid smiled to herself. Her brother smiled at her sadly.
---------
A loud crash was heard in Derek's apartment as someone jumped inside through a window on the ceiling.
Lydia fell over, Ethan hugging her as Jennifer landed on her feet, broken glass surrounding her.
"So, who wants to go first?" Jennifer asked.
Kali attacked the Darach, trying to kick her but Jennifer dodged all her movements. Jennifer then pushed her onto a wall, using her Darach power.
Aiden ran at her, growling. He swung at her, trying to scratch her but she pushed him onto the ground. Ethan then took off his jacket and ran at the Darach. Aiden also ripped off his shirt and growled loudly.
They began merging together but Jennifer walked towards them and separated them.
Lydia stood up, panting. She was terrified as she saw the supernatural fight.
Kali got up and ran at Jennifer, trying to scratch her legs. She stopped and stared at Jennifer.
"That's right, Kali. Look at me. Look at my face." Jennifer told the female alpha. "Do you know what it takes to be able to look like this? To be able to look normal?"
"I don't care" Kali replied.
"It takes power. Power like this." Jennifer lifted her arms and the glass broken glass around her started levitating. The sharp edges pointing towards Kali.
"I..." Kali started speaking "I should've... I should've ripped your head off!" Kali shouted. Jennifer shouted too as she moved her arms towards Kali, the glass flying at her, piercing her delicate skin. Kali fell on the floor with a thud. Lydia gasped and Jennifer smiled, Turning around to look at the banshee.
Jennifer turned around when she heard growling behind her. The twin alphas, merged, stood behind her. They walked towards her and tried hitting her but she dodged. She grabbed their neck and snapped it. The sound of bones cracking filling the almost empty room. They fell on the ground, blood flooding their mouth.
Lydia breathed heavily as she stared at the alphas.
"What's the line coach likes to say? The bigger they are..."
Jennifer walked towards Lydia slowly as Lydia moved away from her.
"What do you want from me?"
"I went you to do what you do best, Lydia. I want you to scream" Jennifer said as she showed her the real face. Lydia screamed loudly as she saw her.
-------
"What the hell was that?" Cora asked Derek as he stopped the car when they heard the scream.
"Lydia" Derek answered. "We have to go back."

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.
