《I Promise // Haikyuu Nishinoya Yuu》-Chapter 10-

The golden morning rays of the sun sneaked through the gaps in the curtains, shining right onto your face. Your eyes flutter open and you look outside the window. The grass was so green and vibrant.
Only then did you realise a pair of toned arms around your small waist. You whipped your head around and saw the most precious looking fella.
His eyes were shut lightly and his breathing was slow, his hair was was let down and messy, the brown streak still standing out. You had no idea how you ended up here, but you were going to savour every second with him. Not wanting to leave his grasp, you snuggled closer into him, but then you felt him move.
His eyes opened slowly, and then he locked eyes with you. The 2 of you, legs entangled together underneath the sheets and bodies fully touching each other. You felt the warmth of Noya's body on yours and it felt good. It was nice to be in his arms, you felt safe and at home. He smelled so good too.
"A-Ah Yuu! Sorry for waking you up!" you whispered and sat up flustered.
"At least say good morning, geez." he teased.
"I must have went to the wrong dorm last night, aaaahh I'm so sorry!"
"It's okay, I saw you in my bed but I didn't wanna wake you up. You were so sound asleep!"
"N-Noya-san, is that... a girl's voice?" Tanaka who was sleeping beside you 2 said, still half-asleep.
"Then, I'll see you later, Yuu-kun!" you got up and quickly left the room as quietly as you could, closing the door behind you. You slumped down on the floor, back leaning against the door.
Uwahhh, I can't believe I slept beside him... it was... so nice... Damn it, stop smiling you idiot!
You hugged your knees close to yourself and chuckled into your clothes and then looked back up after hearing a voice calling your name in the distance.
"Haru-chan! Ah, there you are!"
Shimizu came running up to you and helped you stand up.
"Where were you? I couldn't find the whole morning, and then Yachi said she didn't think you came back to the dorm last night."
"I went to the wrong dorm... sorry for worrying you Shimizu-san!"
"Wrong dorm? HUH YOU SLEPT IN THERE?" Shimizu pointed at the door behind you in shock.
"SHHHH!! They'll hear us!" you panicked and put your finger on your lips.
"A-ah right... okay we need to wash up quickly and help with breakfast. Walk with me and tell me everything." she commanded and the 2 of you made your way to the toilet. You told Shimizu about how you were too sleepy and probably didn't notice you went to the wrong room, and how you ended up sleeping with Noya.
"Woah... You sure move fast Haru-chan!" Shimizu teased after hearing the full story.
"HYEH? It's n-nothing like t-that..."
"I know I know, but I think Nishinoya may actually really like you! Ever since you came to Karasuno, he stopped paying attention to me and always had his eyes on you."
"Really...? I never noticed..."
"Of course you wouldn't." She laughed.
"He looks at you when you're smiling and laughing with everyone else."
"Okay guys. Last match before we leave and start the preliminary rounds. Make this match count." Ukai encourages confidently. The rest of the team nod, feeling a sense of pride. Daichi suddenly stood up and the team gathered around him.

"Guys, I was going to keep this to myself but, I overheard the coaches saying after the matches, they'd treat us to a b a r b e q u e."
Tanaka, Noya and Hinata's eyes widened in excitement.
"BAR"
"BE"
"QUE?"
The 3 simpletons were immediately fired up and started chanting something about meat, Kageyama joined in as well. You laughed heartily at the sight of the 4 idiots in a train-like sequence, dancing their hearts out over meat.
The last match against Fukurodani was pretty intense, Karasuno was at the top of their game, and they had been in the lead so far. Hinata was surprisingly able to pull of a wipe and a feint, the special attacks he had learnt from Bokuto.
"A FEINT?" the owl-headed man exclaimed, shocked.
"Bokuto-san, you were the one who taught him that," Akaashi sighed, the rest of Fukurodani fuming. You, on the other hand, were cheering and clapping for Hinata. In such a short time, he had been able to fully execute everything well.
After getting blocked by Tsukki constantly, Bokuto had one of his emotional meltdowns and stopped spiking, but the rest of the team was almost as strong as their ace. Eventually, the score was in Fukurodani's favour, 24 to 23.
"Fukurodani isn't a team that's completely carried by Bokuto, instead, its the team carrying their ace." Ukai explains to Takeda who looked confused at the scores.
"Bokuto-san!" Akaashi called out, wanting the ace to pick himself back up and score the winning point. Bokuto ran up and jumped, eyes surveying the blocks. Tsukki and Daichi had closed in on a straight, but no block could stop the owl's extremely narrow straights.
WHAM!
The ball bounced at the edge of the court and Fukurodani won the match. Akaashi nodded at his teammates.
"If you could, please." the setter signalled.
"We got this." the other third years nodded back. They turned to Bokuto who was sill standing beside the net.
"Yo! Ace!"
"Wah, in the end, its always our Bokuto-san who's the best!"
"Hehehe, I AM THE BEST AFTER ALL!" Bokuto stood up straight and called out, stretching his arms proudly in the air. He chanted wildly, the rest of his teammates sighing but smiling.
"HEY HEY HEY!"
"Hey... hey hey..."
You couldn't help but giggle, it was too cute an interaction.
"You all fought well! I'm sure you feel different from when you came here. Good job everyone! Now..." Takeda encouraged the team and opened the doors of the gym. Everyone ran outside, along with the other teams. Grabbing a plate, everyone gathered in front of Nekomata.
"You have all worked hard. Thank you all for coming, eat up!" Nekomata said, dismissing the boys to have their meal. Like wolves, the salivating boys dashed for their meat, holding their chopsticks out hungrily.
"THANKS FOR THE FOOD!"
.
.
You took some meat and onigiri onto your plate and walked towards Shimizu, who was sitting with the rest of the managers.
"Haru-chan! I saved you a seat." Shimizu called to you, patting the empty chair beside her. Right as you were about to make your way towards the managers, you sensed an intimidating aura behind you. Turning around, you saw Noya, Tanaka and Nekoma's ace Yamamoto glaring at 2 boys from Fukurodani.
The poor boys looked absolutely terrified at the faces the other 3 were making and the vibe they were giving off.
"What on earth are you guys doing? Come on, leave them alone. I'm so sorry." you scoffed, slapping Noya on the head lightly.

"Haruuu" Noya pouted. You picked up a piece of meat from your plate and fed it to Noya, instantly shutting him up. You smiled at him and walked towards Shimizu.
Noya stayed there with the meat in his mouth. It tasted better than the meat he had eaten previously. He watched as you started chatting with the rest of the managers and your pretty smile as you talked. His heart skipped a beat.
.
"I'm gonna get water." You said, standing up from your seat and throwing away your empty plate. You had been with the managers, but also talking to other guys from the different teams to get advice and tips. Feeling tired, you strolled towards the big green grass patch where the boys had their running penalties, leaving the crowded barbeque area.
You flopped down onto the grass with a half empty water bottle in hand and took a big gulp out of it.
"Oya?"
You looked up and saw Kuroo's tall body towering over you.
"What are you doing here?" you ask him, feeling cautious since he was very flirty.
"I saw you walking of alone, and thought this was the perfect opportunity to get to know you."
"Geh?"
"I'm just kidding" he smirked.
"It was getting too crowded for me and I usually hang out here with Kenma anyway. What are you doing here?"
"Ah, I'm just thinking that's all..."
"About what? Maybe I could help?"
"You? Help me? HAHAHAHA"
"Oi! I'm pretty reliable"
"Okay okay mister... I was given an opportunity to play volleyball on a team again, but I'm scared." you squeezed your water bottle. Kuroo looked at you concernedly.
"Well, you don't look too comfortable talking about it so I wont ask further, but if volleyball is something you really love and are very passionate about, I think you should take every chance you get. Also, seeing your skills in the 3 on 3s we had, you're pretty good." he looked up into the clouds with a certain fire in his eyes, and then back at you.
"Something happened in the past and it affected my performance in games... what if it repeats again?" you asked wearily.
"Now's not the past, its the present, isn't it?" he smiles reassuringly and you realise something. You smiled and nodded back.
Right, its a new start, I'll prove everyone wrong.
.
"Thank you for inviting us!" Karasuno greeted the other teams before boarding the bus tiredly. You sat at the back of the seat with the third years and as the bus took off, you locked eyes with Kuroo who looked relaxed and compassionate. He was smiling. You waved goodbye to each other as he slowly went out of sight.
"Haru-chan, have you made your decision about joining the girls?" Daichi asks you softly. The rest of the boys were fast asleep and he didn't want to wake them up.
"I've started leaning towards a decision, but I still have some uncertainty. What do you guys think?" you said, wanting the third years' advice. Shimizu speaks first.
"If you're worried about the manager position, you will still be able to keep it but you'll be spending less time with the team that's all. You can continue practicing with them on your own accord but of course it won't be as often."
You sigh, playing with the boys has been your favourite thing to do, especially with Noya. Shimizu notices this and continues.
"You'll be able to cope. You're a good manager, Haru-chan!" she smiled. You felt much better hearing Shimizu's words.
"For me, I think everyone will miss you helping out during our games and practicing with us, but I'd rather you do what you wanna do and be happy! I'm sure the team would be more excited when you come back to play with us too." Asahi ponders, scratching his little beard.
"Uwah I'm really gonna miss playing with you Haru, although I think its better for you to continue developing your skills since you're already very good. After your training, you better come back and push us further!" Suga encourages you with his signature smile and a thumbs up.
You turn to Daichi, hoping to get the captain's take on this. He thinks for a while, and then speaks up.
"Hinata told me what he saw at the try-outs, Shimizu also gave me some of your background, but don't get mad at them!" he said, putting his hands out and you shake your head.
"Ultimately, we know you WANT to play volleyball, so just remember. If at any point in time the girls dare to hurt you, the whole volleyball team will come and protect you, just like how you've had our backs ever since you became our manager." he finished, looking determined and patting your back gently.
You were so touched by everyone's words and advice that you start tearing up. Shimizu hands you a tissue and Suga shoots you a small heart to comfort you.
"Thanks you guys!" you had made your decision.
"We've had our last chance to improve ourselves before the Spring Tournament preliminary rounds. In 2 days, we will have our first match, so y'all better stay prepared. Dismissed." Ukai instructed.
"HUH 2 DAYS?"
You exclaimed to Shimizu and Yachi. You hadn't known it would be so soon since you joined late.
"Yeah, that was the whole point of the away games. With the limited amount of time, we had to make use of it wisely." Shimizu informed you.
"Ahhh I'm so sorry, I should have known.. Anyway, I'm sure they'll be fine!" you look up at the manager with confidence. She smiles back at you.
"Of course! We are Karasuno for a reason, right?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"How much longer are they gonna go at it? Even Yachi is tired." you point at the poor girl who was panting and sweating profusely. It was just throwing balls but Yachi had been doing that for 30. Minutes. Straight.
It was the day after coming back from Tokyo and the last practice before the first preliminary match. The power duo was working their butts off more than usual. You had already planned to leave with Noya once practice ended so Hinata decided to ask Yachi for help instead.
"I dunno. Those 2 really are incredible." Noya sighed.
"I got this." you peak through the gym doors.
"Sunshine! Blueberry!"
The 2 volleyball idiots turned their heads around quickly. Yes, you had a nickname for Kageyama too, and he wasn't complaining.
"You're really gonna feel the strain tomorrow. Go home and rest!" you huffed.
"But I feel like I haven't hit enough..." the orange pouted, Kageyama nodded in agreement.
"Why don't you save that feeling for tomorrow? I don't know how long more I can go guys..." Yachi panted, still trying to catch her breath.
"Oh, I get it!" Hinata immediately starts to pack up and Kageyama does the same. You smile and flash a quick thumbs up to Yachi.
"Don't forget to lock up, I'll be going now!" you say as you wave goodbye to the 3 first years.
.
.
"Haruuu"
"Yes Yuu?"
"Let's have dinner together!"
"Hmm, is this a date?"
"Well, it can if you want it to be." he smirked at you and you were loving his confidence.
"If it's a date, then yes!" you skipped beside him. A broad grin grows on the boys face and he brings you to a nearby restaurant.
You guys talked and laughed a lot while eating. At one point, Noya got food all over his mouth and you wiped it with a tissue. He started blushing really hard and you got shy as well, but continued teasing him.
"I'm so excited for tomorrow! I'm going to beat everyone there and go to Nationals!" Noya cheers, taking a big slurp out of his soup.
"I know you will, and you're gonna do great!" you encouraged him, looking at him proudly.
"How aboutchu and the balleyball cheam?" he asked, mouth full of his last bit of noodles.
"Don't talk with your mouth full Yuu!" you chuckled.
"I've made my decision but I won't confirm anything yet. I'll do it after you guys get to Nationals." you said.
Noya could tell that you were confident in Karasuno's abilities to make it to Nationals, and he was secretly thankful for your support.
"Why wait though?" he inquired again as both of you walked out of the restaurant.
"This team is much more important to me as of now, and I for sure am not gonna just leave halfway. I want to be there for your games and support you all!" you replied.
Well, I wanna be there for you most importantly.
Noya stretches out his pinky and looks you in the eyes.
"Then promise you'll be there at all our games rooting for us!"
"Of course I will."
Your pinkies intertwined gently...
Then the tip of your thumbs rested on each other...
He held your head and gave you a light peck on your forehead, then he pulled you in for a hug.
"We've promised, you can't miss a s i n g l e game, got it?" he reminded you once more.
"A promise is a promise, isnt it Yuu?" you reassured.
Holding your hand gently, the 2 of you walked back home together under the moonlit sky, knowing that you would be there for each other whenever, wherever you needed it.
Ending the day with the perfect, unplanned date, commenced the start of the Spring Tounament preliminary rounds.
Dear Spellbook (Link to rewrite in blurb)
A rewrite of this story has been posted here: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/49881/dear-spellbook-a-fantasy-time-loop-rewrite Live. Study. Repeat. Tal is a sorcerer in a world where they are killed on sight, traveling with a man charged with carrying out the task. Every night Tal must pretend to study his spellbook to maintain his disguise as a Wizard’s Apprentice. If his disguise slips and his charade is uncovered, it will be his death. Seeking answers to mysteries that arose after his parent’s murder, Tal must accept any allies, no matter the risks, to uncover his family’s secret. But when he wakes up one morning to find himself trapped repeating the same day, he has to overcome his challenges all on his own. This story is an adaptation of a D&D campaign I ran but never was able to complete. I tried to capture the feel of a table-top RPG session —tropes and humor— without relying on the mechanics. This is not a litRPG or gamelit story and no D&D mechanics or system appear in the game. It follows one member of an adventuring party as he deals with the problems with that arise from being an adventurer. Namely, getting roped into adventures. The story has a time loop element, but will eventually move past that. This story explores the magic systems, the history, and the lore of the world through the lens of Tal's entries in his Spellbook and interludes from other written works in the world. New entries on Mondays Credit to JackOfHearts for the cover.
