《I Promise // Haikyuu Nishinoya Yuu》-Chapter 11-

The days and the matches went by so quickly and Karasuno dominated every single match! I've been at the stands together with Yachi, cheering for them all as they played. Shimizu stayed on the bench with Ukai and Takeda. As much as I wanted to be as close to Yuu during his games, it was only fair for Shimizu.
After the first 2 days, Karasuno had defeated 4 teams and advanced to the semi-finals! We saw a 2 meter guy, and Hinata wanted to bind with a fujikujira HAHAHA! There was also a guy who's play style was the most similar to the Little Giant, Hinata's idol.
Yuu had so many cool plays too... saving a ball with his foot 0.0 and picking almost every spike he could! He pulled off the tosses so well and got really excited everytime they scored a point! He really is amazing, I'm gonna train to his level.
Tomorrow will be the semi-final match before they go to finals and I have no doubt they're gonna make it! I'm not sure who the opponent will be, but Shiratorizawa will probably be in the finals and I'll see Wakatoshi-kun again! Even if we are up against them, the managers and I have done enough research, so we'll be ready.
I've been feeling kind of weird lately, especially after that impromptu date we had, it was everything I could ever want. Everytime I see Yuu, my stomach does somersaults and my heart starts beating abnormally fast. I become insanely happy and excited to see him and the sound of his name brightens my day instantly... I think maybe, just maybe...
You put your pen down and look out the window at the starry sky. The moon was shining bright and the wind was blowing into your room gently. You took a deep breath of the night air and closed your diary.
I think I'm in love.

"Everyone suddenly seems on the edge, did something happen?" Yachi asked as you and Shimizu packed up the water bottles. You looked up and noticed the boys looking a little more tensed than usual in their warmups.
"The last time they fought against Seijoh at the Inter-Highs, they gave it their all and still lost." Shimizu explained, an annoyed look on her face.
"They'll make it this time! You told me Hinata and Kageyama had a quick that evolved from the last time, and we all saw Karasuno's evolution during the away games!" you exclaimed, gaining the attention of all the boys. You turned around and faced them, clenching your fists and a determined look in your eyes.
"You guys are going to win this match and go to Nationals! I believe in you!"
The boys looked at you and smirked. If their manager was so confident in them, shouldn't they be confident in themselves too? They nod at you and the referee blows on his whistle. The 6 boys walk onto the court proudly and you stood at the stands, watching their backs.
Noya looked back at you once more, and you mouth 'you got this!' to him. He smiles and sends an 'okay!' with his hands and diverted his focus onto the ball that was in the server's hands.
"Yachi-san, that's Oikawa Toru, right?" you peaked at the brochure the blondie was holding. You remember Ushiwaka mentioning something about a setter in Seijoh who should have come to Shiratorizawa.
(in your backstory, it said that you were invited to train with the All Japan Representative Team, which is where you met Ushijima!)

"Yeah, he earned the best setter award in middle school and is known to give the best tosses to bring out each spiker's best abilities. He's indeed the best setter in the prefecture, as of now at least." she tells you, smiling.
You knew that Karasuno themselves had an amazing setter, and it won't be long before Kageyama surpasses the Great King. From the stands, you screamed as loud as you could:
"KARASUNO FIGHT!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 save, 1 point, 1 set. 1 match. They had to win this and overcome the defeat from the Inter-highs, and advance to the finals. Everyone was playing at their best and had full focus on the game. Oikawa's powerful serves that could possibly break your arms off, Hinata and Kageyama's freak-quick that couldn't be stopped, Noya's brilliant saves. It was a neck-and-neck game, but it came down to the 3rd set, the final set, that would determine who went against the powerhouse school and strongest volleyball player, Ushijima.
You entire body was plastered on the wall and your hands gripped the railings in anticipation and excitement, and fear. Your eyes darted around the court, following the ball and scrutinising every play. Yachi stood beside you, biting on her pencil anxiously. It was 26-26, and Oikawa's turn to serve again.
WHAM!
The ball hit the pretty boy's palm perfectly and the ball came flying towards Noya. The speed was incredible and you grit your teeth.
Out? No, its curving. Noya swerved to the side and scooped up the ball perfectly, sending the ball high up in the air and right to Kageyama.
"NICE RECEIVE YUU!" you screamed, grabbing the bar like you were holding on to dear life.
At that exact moment, Hinata, Daichi, Tanaka and Asahi started running up, all ready to spike, their eyes focused on the ball. Kageyama jumped into the set, his perfect form not breaking for a second, and then...
Pom!
Kageyama send the ball to the ground on Seijoh's court, Oikawa dived to save it but he was just a millisecond too late.
"You little brats" he scoffed, body flat on the ground and the ball just a few centimetres away from his hand.
"Oh my god Kageyama's gonna give me a heart attack." you heaved a huge sigh from holding your breath, and finally released your grasp on the rails. Yachi laughed.
"It worked out didn't it? Now, we're at match point!" she exclaimed and pointed to the scoreboard, 27-26. You looked back onto the court and saw Oikawa's expression, he looked extremely pissed.
"We won't lose." you saw him mouth, and you gulped hard.
Please, just one more point!
"GO KAGEYAMA, KILLER SERVE!" Hinata cheered as Kageyama bounced the ball. He tossed the ball up with ease.
"It's good." he thought in his head and ran up, jumping high.
WHAM!
The ball flew to the other side of the court. Seijoh's libero managed to pick it up but it flew right back to Karasuno's side.
"Chance ball!" Daichi called and received it and the ball went to Kageyama. Everyone started running up again, this time with Hinata on the back line. The human tangerine jumped first and the ball came flying to him perfectly.
"BACK MINUS TEMPO!"
"GO!" Tsukki yelled and with all his might, Hinata whacked the ball straight into the edge of the blocker's hands, it flew out of the court near the benches at the side.
"THEY'VE GOT IT-" you said but then noticed Oikawa running towards the ball, pointing a finger at Iwaizumi. From the far distance, he jumped up and tossed the ball straight to the ace, falling hard on his injured knee. You winced at the sight as he crawled up and ran back to the court, and then Iwaizumi spiked the ball. Luckily, Daichi as there to save it although the receive was a little off.
"GOT IT!"
Tanaka hit the ball back to Kageyama.
"CHANCE BALL!"
"GIVE IT TO ME!"
Hinata yelled and everyone did their run up once again. The toss went to Hinata who jumped the earliest, and he slammed the ball into Seijoh's court, bouncing right off Oikawa's arms and out of the court.
.
"YOSHAAAAAAAA!"
You yelled together with the team and hugged Yachi tightly, then both of you ran down to the court, panting with energy.
"YUU!"
"HARU!"
You jumped into his open arms and nuzzled your face into his neck. He was sweaty and sticky, but neither of you minded. He slumped his head down on your shoulder and smiled.
"Haru-chan!" Hinata called from behind while pulling Kageyama.
"You guys were amazing! That last spike was really cool!" you stuck your thumbs out at them and Hinata giggled. Kageyama blushed and nodded. Noya still had his arm wrapped around your waist.
"Eh? I thought you 2 weren't dating?" Kageyama pointed out, and Hinata also looked at both of you in confusion. You laughed timidly and tucked a lose strand of hair behind your ear.
"We will be soon." Noya said in a serious tone and your face immediately flushed red, then he walked away.
He just walked. Away.
"Hyeh, no fair..." Hinata sighed and grabbed Kageyama's jersey.
"We already have each other boke, you want another person?" Kageyama sighed and slapped the tangerine's hand off.
"OW! BAKAYAMA THAT HURT."
"Wait, what did you say?" your eyes widened as you realised what Kageyama just said. The 2 quickly brushed off the topic and left suspiciously.
"Okay, the bus is here. Let's go!" Ukai instructed loudly and the rest of the team obeyed. You walked behind the group with Yachi and Shimizu and carried the water bottles.
In the bus, you sat beside the other managers and looked out the window (i need to stop with these looking out the window and being in deep thought things smh), you had many things running through your mind but the main thing was what Noya had said.
What did he mean by 'soon'?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Alright, good game today. There's clearly a big improvement from the last match with them."
Ukai said proudly with his hands on his hips, but the rest of the team didn't share the same energy. Some were yawning and others were barely keeping their eyes open. You yourself were struggling to stand up straight.
"Oi, we need to have this meeting. The managers have come up stats and data on Shiratorizawa, so listen up." Ukai commanded strictly, the 4 of you each holding a thick stack of document in your hands. Takeda had handed them out.
"Woah, you did this for us?" Noya said, looking at you in awe. You nodded and grinned.
"Actually, the notes were mainly written and printed by Yachi and Shimizu, I only gave some details since I've played with Wakatoshi-kun before!"
You looked around the group and saw their shocked expressions, then Shimizu stands beside you and holds your hand proudly. You also noticed the third years grinning.
"Haru has been practicing with Ushijima and she knows his team fairly well since she trained with the All Japan Youth Representative team! We wouldn't have this much information without her."
You blushed and Shimizu pats you on the back.
"Go on, tell them a bit of your experience!" she nudges you and whispers.
"Well, we played a mixed game, so both boys and girls were on the team and we played against each other. I managed to receive a few of Wakaoshi-kun's serves and spikes, but it wasn't easy... My team ended up barely losing though, so it's possible to defeat him!" you looked at the team before you determinedly, and then your gaze went to Noya. If anyone could get used to Ushijima's serves and spikes, it was him.
"Okay, let's not put their efforts to waste. Listen up!"
Ukai instructs and goes through the plan for the finals, everyone's ears twitching and listening intently. You sneaked to the back of the group and sat beside Noya who was the most focused.
He must be a little nervous... With this plan, Yuu has a huge role in the game. Wakatoshi-kun's serves and spikes are a hell to receive, but it's not impossible. You smiled and admired his serious face, one that was rare to see. His eyes were glowing with a passion and his hands rested on his lap. You had absolute confidence in him.
.
.
"Okay, it's getting pretty late. Good job today again, rest we-"
"Wait! I have something to say."
Noya interrupts Ukai with his hands in the air, then he stands up quickly and hurries to the front.
"I'm gonna make one last promise before we go to Nationals."
The team looks confused but then Noya signals for you to go to him. You walk over cautiously, and silently asked what this was all about. Noya takes a deep breath in, and then exhales slowly to calm his racing heart.
"Haru, I really like you a lot. My feelings from when I was 6 have never went away and you've always been on my mind. I'm confessing in front of everyone so you know I'm not faking it, and everyone here is a witness of this promise. They'll also have another reason to win. So promise me. If we beat Shiratorizawa and go to Nationals, you'll be my girlfriend!" he says loud and confidently, holding your hand in his.
The team isn't shocked, but they instead look at you in anticipation, waiting anxiously for your reply.
You look at Noya's eyes and felt his sincerity in his words, and you don't hold back your tears of happiness, pulling Noya in a tight hug.
"Yes, I promise! Yes, yes, yes! I promise you, so you better win Yuu!" you cry into his shirt. Noya wraps his arms around your waist and smiles into your hair. The rest of the team stood up and started cheering like there was no tomorrow.
He gently held you apart and stuck his little pinky and you do the same.
Your pinkies intertwined gently...
The tip of your thumbs rested on each other...
And then he rested his forehead on yours.
"I promise."

Epoch: An NPC's Tale
Epoch is a slow-burn LitRPG/Gamelit novel that tells the story of Luke, later named Lucius—a natural inhabitant of the game-like realm of Elyssia where thousands upon thousands of detached, virtually unkillable entities known as the Players were suddenly introduced right after the dusk of the magnificent Age of Heroes. Shortly after the Players arrived, the balance of power in Elyssia instantly shifted. Kingdoms fell, wars were waged, alliances between races were made, and Lucius, after ten years of training in captivity, found himself being used as a pawn in a prophecy that he had no intention to fulfill. With aspirations and desires of his own, Lucius must find a way to cautiously adapt to the drastic changes in the very foundations of the realm after being sent 300 years into a future that was forever altered by the outcome of the war that his captors had lost and the Players won in a victory that resounded throughout the ages, all for a terrible price. Author's Note As an avid fan of the LitRPG genre myself, I wrote this novel with character progression, heavy Gamelit elements, and some degree of world-building in mind. If you like these, please feel free to give this novel a try. Oh, and the MC is also an NPC, in a sense. And wait, isn't this also an isekai story? Well, it's all a bit complicated to explain here. Maybe you should start reading now?
