《Call Of Death》Chapter 15 : Killer's Trophy 2

Cameron woke up early in the morning or maybe he didn't fell asleep at all. After washing his face, he went outside to see who his neighbor was but he had already knocked many times yet no one answered. He just considered his first thought last night about Devius joking. He shoved it off and returned to his apartment to get ready. They did their regular routine but he couldn't get the thought of his new neighbor inside his head. He never saw them, not even when he knocked at their door this morning. He wanted to believe that Devius was joking but there's something in his that's saying something is off.
"Hey, let's buy something for Michael later." Detective Lee has been hearing the same sentence ever since this morning.
"When will you stop talking?" He lazily turned to Officer Chad.
"Until you say yes." He simply answered.
"Tell, Chad, are you really serious about the neighbor?" Cameron faced his partner.
Devius furrowed his brows. "Of course, why would I joke about having neighbors?"
Detective Lee sighed. "It's just that, I went to see them this morning but no one answered me. I don't think someone's living next door." He explained.
"Maybe they're shy?"
"Huh?"
"Okay, let's do it like this, I'mma buy something for them and we'll both give it so we could meet. What do you say?"
"I don't know."
"Come on, senior. I thought you wanna meet your neighbor?"
"Tss! Fine, just do whatever you want and stop being noisy." He gave up.
After hearing that, Devius smiled and started thinking of what to buy for the kid. Cameron on the other was still curious about his so-called neighbor's identity. He agreed to make a reason of checking on his new neighbor. He is somehow curious about the kid, Michael. He really never noticed that someone is inhabiting the place next door until Officer Chad told him. There was no noise despite the apartment being not sound proof. He isn't at home most of the time, but he should have noticed if someone was really in there. In addition to that, he knocked not just once or twice on that door and not even a single movement was heard. It's just something that anyone will be so curious about. But for him, he's kinda worried than curious.
He looked at the clock hanged on the wall of their headquarters. It's almost passed lunch and his tummy is growling with hunger. He sighed and then he lowered the papers he was holding before facing Officer Chad.
"Hey, let's have lunch first." Cameron stood up and walked out of the headquarters.

"Eh? Hey! Wait for me!" Devius quickly followed, smiling.
Cameron doesn't usually asked him to have lunch, he's always the first one to do so. That's why he was smiling like a clown —ears to ears. He didn't even bother to fix his table and just stormed out to follow his senior.
"Hurry up, Devil." Detective Lee said without stopping.
"Hey! Who's the devil?" Devius frowned but Cameron only shook his head.
They both walked out of the headquarters and begun heading towards the restaurant near the station. Devius isn't familiar with the place because it's far from their office. It's been a while since he came to Cameron's place and he hasn't visited his workplace yet. He doesn't even have time to visit his sister because of their busy schedule.
"Let's bring them food too." He said while walking beside Cameron.
"Who?" Detective Lee asked in confusion.
"Michael and his mom." He simply answered.
"Fine." He just agreed.
They went to the nearest eatery to have their lunch. They also bought some take out for Michael and his mom, just like what Officer Chad said.. After that, they both returned to the office but when they entered the headquarters, Chief Simon's worried face greeted them. Cameron could already feel that something is wrong. But by how worried she looks, it's more than what he thinks it it.
"Cameron! Officer Chad!" She called, looking at both men.
They both rushed to her. "Chief, what's wrong? Is it about the culprit?" Devius asked, Chief Simon nodded.
"Yes. Another crime happened again." She said looking really worried.
"What happened, Chief? Why do you look so worried as if it's someone you know who got victimised?" Detective Cameron Lee asked, curious and worried too.
Chief Simon stayed silent for a while making the atmosphere more intense and worrying. She then swallowed hard before uttering the words that both men didn't expect to hear.
"Did you know that there's a kid who lived beside your apartment?" She asked.
Devius and Cameron looked at each other. "Yeah, Officer Chad just told me last night." He responded.
"He was the lastest victim." Chief Simon said and Devius felt a cold running down his spine.
"What? C-Chief, did I hear you right?" Devius said in a nervous tone.
"Yes, you heard me right. The kid who live on your apartment next door was the latest victim of the culprit and fortunately, he managed to escape." Chief Simon stated.
Cameron and Devius looked at each other. Cameron was confused while Devius was visibly worried about the kid and his mom's safety. Even after hearing that he managed to get away and that was a good news but he still couldn't help himself but worry. He was relieved that the boy escaped but he wasn't sure about the mother.

Cameron closed his eyes and sighed. His fists are clenched tightly. Even if he never met his so-called neighbors, the fact that the victim was a kid angered him so much. 'Was it why I never got any answer this morning? Was the killer inside the apartment that time?' He asked in his thought.
Cameron and Devius both feel a little guilty because the incident happened on the same building where the both of them are living. Aside from that, they have the same thought that they could have done something and prevent something from happening.
"So, is Michael really alright?" Devius couldn't help but asked.
Chief Simon nodded. "He is now but he's in a lot of trauma. He's lucky to have escaped but even if he's physically alright, he's emotionally damaged."
"Is there any chance we could talk to him? Where is he now, Chief?" Officer Chad sounded really worried.
Chief Simon held his shoulder. "Devius, it's better to let the kid rest first for a while. He's in the hospital and some of our men are guarding his room. You don't have to worry too much. I assure you, he'll be alright." She explained but Devius is still worried.
"That shit wouldn't even spare a child." Devius clenched his fists.
"We really need to capture that bastard as soon as possible. We can't let him get to his next victim." Detective Lee uttered desperately.
"Come to my office, I have something to tell you." Chief Simon then walked towards her office's door and both Cameron and Devius followed.
When they entered, Detective Parker is already there, waiting. They all positioned around her table as Chief Simon laid down all the pictures of the missing objects from the victims. Detective Lee, Detective Parker and Officer Chad are looking at them with confusion.
"As you all know, these are the missing objects from the victims," Chief Simon started. " They have something similar in everything. What do you notice about them?" She asked.
Detective Cameron Lee looked at all the pictures. While Detective Parker and Officer Chad did nothing but stared at them. Devius and Cameron has been observing those pictures all day from the day when Officer Chad told him about the killer's trophy but they still couldn't find anything that the objects has in common.
"Red..." Detective Parker uttered, both Cameron and Devius looked at him then to the pictures.
"You're right, it's the color..." Detective Lee turned to Officer Chad after hearing what Parker said. "All the objects has a color red in them."
"No." Kairo shook his head and stood up. "All of the objects are color Red." He corrected his colleague.
"Right." Cameron nodded.
"Listen here. The apron from Gina Kang," Kairo picked up all the pictures and laid it on the other side of the table. "The missing watch of George Michael, Mence David's handkerchief, Sherril Henry's ring, Sara Chain's hair lase, Jona Ingrid's bracelet, Mateo Jacker's slippers and the ripped piece of cloth from Niana Penningson." Cameron, Devius and Chief Simon carefully watched and listened as Detective Parker continued explaining. "Eunice Oscars' beanie, Miranda Jameswood's notebook is also in red cover and lastly, Michael Hansell's ballpen has a red ink." He said as he showed all the pictures on the table, including the pen he was holding.
"How did you know about the pen? How is it with you?" Detective Lee asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
"I saw it when I was searching since you weren't there and I was. Also, I only have the pen not the ink." He answered showing them the empty pen without the ink stick. "See?"
Officer Chad faced him. "I used that pen to write my number on his palm last night. If everything that the culprit took as his trophy was in color red, that means he also took Michael's pen." He voiced out.
"Yeah but why wouldn't he take everything? Why would he only take the ink stick?" Chief Simon asked, Kairo shrugged his shoulder.
Cameron and Chief Simon looked at each other. The four all sighed because they're too stressed about the culprit.
"Wait." They all turned to Devius. "If he left that on the scene, is it possible that his fingerprints were still there?" He said pointing at the pen.
Kairo shook his head. "I also thought of that earlier but found out that the culprit wears some cloves so his fingerprints were not left at any objects. Clever, yeah?" He chuckled.
"The culprit's latest victim was my neighbor, that means he's been spying on us all along." Detective Lee bit his lower lip as he sat down on the chair.
"It's also possible that he did it on purpose." Kairo mumbled.
"We should do more work and make sure that he pays for what he did." Officer Chad clutched his fist.
They all nodded and stayed silent without moving for a while. Everyone is thinking about what to do in order to catch the culprit and prevent any more life to be in danger. Little did they all know that someone was smiling as he watched and listens to them.

The Stars Have Eyes
The universe was a vast, empty, dark, and uncaring place. Then life happened, and the universe was changed forever. Only a teeny-tiny bit, but definitely different. Then again, the universe changes a teeny-tiny bit every second of every day. For instance, if someone were to get off the couch and randomly drink a glass of milk? Bam! One less glass of milk in the universe. Changed forever. Well, excluding any time-travel shenanigans, but anyone who puts a big old hole in the time-space continuum just to un-drink a glass of milk should really reevaluate their priorities. Unless, of course, they were attempting to prevent some massive catastrophe vis-a-vis said glass of milk. Such a scenario is by no means impossible, as one should never underestimate the importance of calcium. Another important tip for any life forms out there is to keep things in perspective. Some look at the vastness of creation in relation to themselves and go, ‘Man, this sucks!’ These people really need to narrow their focus. Sure, they will never affect anything happening on the other end of the galaxy, but so what? That’s way the heck over there, where it doesn’t matter. Therefore, in order to maintain a healthy mindset, it is important to narrow one’s perspective to the things and people that affect them, and that they can affect in turn. But what happens if one is an unfathomable cosmic being from beyond the veil of reality? What happens when such an existence is capable of influencing entire swathes of the universe just by its presence? A creature such as Magh'rathlak the Observer? That particular entity is only about average as far as reality-warping creatures from the dawn of time go, so its influence over the fabric of reality is rather limited. And it still struggles to keep things in perspective. That, among other things, is why it decided to narrow its worldview a bit by compressing the maddening vastness of its being into a single corporeal form. Magh'rathlak had never tried such a feat, but that wasn't about to stop it. After all, how hard could being human possibly be?
