《Call Of Death》Chapter 22 : Forgot to Forget

Both men are quiet inside the car. Officer Chad was thinking about the culprit and the reason why he was calling Detective Lee last night. Also, there are questions running inside his mind. When will it show itself or where would he show himself? He's worried about his sister's welfare. While Detective Lee's mind was still on last night. The made up confession from his partner, that he had taken seriously.
Detective Lee secretly glanced Officer Chad who was so deep in thought. When they arrived at the headquarters, Detective Lee parked the car in front and turned to Officer Chad who was still drowning from his thoughts.
"Chad, we're here." He said but Devius didn't even move an inch. "Hey!" He then tapped his shoulder.
"Yeah?" Devius turned to him in confusion.
"Ehem!" He cleared his throat. "We're here."
"Oh! Yeah, yeah. Sorry." Devius apologises and quickly went out of the car, Detective Lee followed.
"Good morning, Officer Chad, Detective Lee." Their colleagues greeted as they walk inside the station.
"Morning." Officer Chad greeted back but Detective Lee just nodded in response.
They continued walking to the office of Chief Simon. As usual, Detective Lee knocked first before they both entered.
"Good morning, Chief." They saluted.
Chief Simon saluted back and said, "Sit down, please."
"Chief, what's the meeting about? Is there any new information about the culprit?" Detective Lee asked, looking at his superior.
Before answering, Chief Simon glanced at Officer Devius Chad. She thought he would tell his partner about the risk he was facing but based on her junior's looks, it seemed like he didn't say a word about it to Detective Lee. Devius slightly shook his head, realising what Chief Simon was thinking.
"Well, I just wanted to say that the kid, Michael is still in the hospital and if you want to visit him, you can now. He's a bit well now." She said, changing her plans on telling Cameron about Officer Chad's situation.

"How's the kid then, Chief?" Detective Lee asked, concerned.
Chief Simon sighed. "He's fine physically but he has been traumatized and still haven't talked to anyone since." She answered.
"But, will he be fine?" Officer Chad interrupted.
"A psychiatrist was checking him up, let's just hope that he'll be fine because he could be our star witness and also, he's the only one who could tell us what the suspect exactly look like." Their superior explained.
"Let's give him a break, Chief. He has to rest his mind because he's just a kid. We can talk to him about the culprit once he's out of the hospital." Cameron said.
After the meeting, they both went out of the office and straight to their car. They are both silent again while getting in. But this time, they are both thinking the same thing. They're both worried about Michael but also thinking that he's their greatest hope to completely identify the suspect of the murders. Detective Lee took a deep breath and started the engine.
"Detective Lee, do you think the kid could take it if we make him a star witness and let him identify his abductor?" Devius uttered while looking out the window, watching the trees as they passed by.
"I don't know. He has been in a difficult situation, it'll be hard."
"But, sooner or later he'll have to do that. We need him to take the culprit behind bars, to stop anymore death."
"Making you face the person who hurt you is the most fearful thing we could do for the kid. If I have a choice, I would just let him forget everything and live a normal life." He responded, thinking about how hard it would be for the kid.
"But, will he be able to forget it?" Officer Chad turned to face Cameron.
He also doesn't know the answer to that. Because he, himself, didn't forget one bit of his dark past. He still could remember how hard and scary it is to be in such situation. Fortunately, the kid didn't suffer as much as he did as a kid but it still would make a scar in the kid's entire being. The hardest thing and the most scary thing when you are abducted is when you forgot to forget. It's when you can remember every single detail of that moment. No matter how hard you try to erase them in your memory, you just can't. It's like a scar from a very deep wound. If Cameron could forget everything from his childhood, he would.

"Detective Lee?" Officer Chad cut him in his thoughts.
"Huh?"
"If you keep spacing out like that, we'll be in great trouble." He said, that's when Cameron realized that it's Devius who's holding the steering wheel and that the gap between them is really near.
"S-Sorry," He apologized in panicked and quickly took over.
"I've been calling you for like a minute already and you wouldn't even budge." Devius said.
"Sorry, maybe it's just hangover." Cameron said.
He doesn't want to tell Devius that he was thinking about his miserable childhood. We would never want to talk about it with anyone.
"Can I ask you a question?" Officer Chad mumbled.
Detective Lee glanced at him but quickly turned to the road. "What is it?"
"Are you still a virgin?" Devius smiled.
Detective Lee stepped on the break after hearing that question. "What?"
Officer Chad started laughing because his partner's face turned all red. He doesn't know why he is so embarrassed about the question, they're both men.
"Hahaha! Why are you blushing, Detective Lee?" He kept laughing while Cameron still couldn't believed that he's being asked such question.
"You're crazy!" He growled and harshly step on the gas making Devius hit his head on the seat.
"Ouch! What? You didn't even answer my question." He laughed.
Cameron gave him a death glare. "Shut up or I'll break your neck."
"You're so violent." He teased more.
Cameron just rolled his eyes and continued driving to the hospital where Michael was admitted. When they reached their destination, Detective Lee stopped the car in the parking lot. Officer Chad got out still smiling while Detective Lee was giving him a glare that shoots bullet.
"Will you stop smiling? You look like a clown. People would think you're insane." Cameron glared at him while they're walking to Michael's room.
"Why? Is it a crime to smile?" He questioned. "It's not my fault that I can't stop smiling."
"Tss! You need to see a psychiatrist, you're crazy." He walked passed him, Devius laughed again looking at Detective Lee's back.
"Even his back is handsome, how can he still be a virgin? Even if no one has ever confessed their love for him, he could have at least kissed a girl when he was a teenager, right? Wait!" He asked himself but stopped on his tracked when a thought came to his mind. "Is he gay? No way!"
"Hey! Can you hurry up?" He looked up after hearing Detective Lee's call.
"Yeah, coming!" He shouted and ran towards the latter's direction.
Detective Lee just sighed and shook his head while looking at his partner running towards him. He really acts like a child most of the time. He doesn't know if this guy really have any idea of what love means. He also doesn't know how could he casually just ask about someone's virginity. Also, he remembered telling him that he has never been confessed too, so he should have known the answer to his question and should've never asked.

I'll be writing randomly, attenmpting to forge a storyline from my own sweat, determination, and creativity. It's loosely based on some Wuxia/Xuanhuan fictions I've read. It will have elements of human physiology, psychology, environmental science, nature vs man, man vs nature, human nature vs humanity, etc. This story is mean to be a work of fiction. It encompasses some of my views on morality. It will have corruption, foul-language, ignorance, racism. It will glean a bright world with imagination fused with the dark shadows for some to seek refuge. Though, in the world I will be creating... Refuge comes at a cost. A steep one. That is the Way of the World. The way of my world.Need cover art plz
