《Call Of Death》Chapter 57 : The Picture

The drive was quite comfortable because the rain has finally stopped and the there isn't a single traffic om their way. As soon as Detective Lee and Officer Chad entered the headquarters, Chief Simon immediately asked for them to meet her at her office. Both men were clueless but they still went to the office together as they know that it's about the case.
"Detective Lee, Officer Chad, come on in." Chief Simon stated, offering them a seat.
Both men saluted. "Chief, I thought the meeting will be held after Detective Parker is discharged?" Detective Lee asked, sitting down.
"That's what is supposed to happen but I found out something that really concerns me and I really need to show you." She stood up from her sit, carrying a brown envelope.
"What is it, Chief?" Officer Chad questioned.
Chief Simon went beside Cameron and handed him the envelope. "See it for yourself and tell me what you think about it." She said.
Despite of the confusion, Detective Lee opened the envelope and saw a folder inside it. Devius also stood up to look into it too. When Cameron opened the folder, there were some pictures of different places, walls and houses there. At first, it was just some normal types of photos for him. But after looking into more photos, a certain picture caught his eyes. It was a picture of two young boys, standing beside each other. The other boy looks a bit older but his face wasn't recognizable because of how old it is. While the younger's face was erased using a pen. The wall behind them was the most that caught the detective's attention. It's because he was familiar with it. He was very familiar with it. When he looked at the next photo, it was of another kids again and behind them was the same wall. There were also two boys but this time, the kids looked just the same age. The other boy's face was scratched with pen again while the other one was so clear.
"Eh? Cai, that kid looks like you." Devius giggled, pointing at the other boy's photo.
Cameron picked up the picture. "...because it's me but I don't remember that I have taken such photo." He stated while looking at it.
"Really? That's you? Then who's the kid beside you?" Officer Chad asked again.
Detective Lee shook his head. "I don't know. I can't remember."
"Cameron, that envelope and those photos were sent here earlier. It was addressed to you but you never had delivery here so I became suspicious. I took a peek in it and then I saw those." Chief Simon narrated, going back to her seat.
"Chief, did you know the name of the person who sent these?" Cameron asked, really eager.
"Well, the delivery guy didn't say anything but he left you a note." Chief Simom said while searching on her drawer. "Here, I didn't check on that."
Devius and Cameron looked at each other, confused. "It's a gift from someone you know. All the memories are in there. All the clues were inside that envelope. The murders, that mysterious guy named Red, your adopted father's disappearance and the whole truth about you. It's for you to find out. I'll leave the rest to you, Crimson." Officer Chad read out loud.
"Crimson... Crimson?" Detective Lee repeated the name.

"Cai, who is Crimson? Do you know anyone named Crimson?" Officer Chad asked.
"I can't remember, Chad. But the name Crimson sounds familiar to me. Maybe I've heard it before." The man responded.
"But why would someone send something like that? Do you think it's a misunderstanding? Maybe they sent it in the wrong address?"
"I don't know, Chad. But some of the pictures looks familiar to me. Those places were from my childhood. I think, it's not misunderstanding especially with notes' content. Someone deliberately sent this to me." Detective Lee said in a long litany.
"But who?" Chief Simon queried.
Cameron stood up and gave out a sigh. "Whoever did sent this, he knows me and he knows Red. Maybe he knows more than what I think he knows."
"What do you plan to do, Lee?" Chief Simon asked.
"I have to find out who sent this. Maybe he could also tell me information about Uncle Harry."
"I'll go with you, Cai." Devius patted his shoulder.
After that, Detective Lee and Officer Chad went out of the office. They are both thinking and trying to figure out how to uncover the identity of the sender. There was nothing written in the envelope — no address, no name. There was no word aside from the letter that said the sender was someone Detective Lee knows.
Cameron sat down on his chair and stared at the two different photos of the two kids. He could recognize it. He was sure it was from that place. It was on that basement where he was hold captive as a kid. The writings on the wall were his doings but the drawing beside the faceless kid, he doesn't remember doing it. Even the kid on the picture who was with him, he doesn't remember him.
He kept staring at the two pictures in his hands. He wanted to know who these two kids are and why are their races erased with a pen. Why are they in the same place? Who is the kid beside him? When did it happened? All he could remember was when he was held captive, he was the only person in that place. He never took a photo with anyone but the whole thing doesn't look photoshopped at all. It was genuine.
"Who are you?" He whispered.
He flipped the picture of him with the kid and saw a name written below. It was a bit blurry but when he could finally reflect what it is. His eyes widen and he immediately stood up. Because the name written behind the photo were Lee Jin Hong and Lee Han Se.
"Lee Jin Hong and Lee Han Se." He re-read it, making sure that he read it right.
He stared at it in confusion and shock. Then his phone rang. Officer Chad turned to look at his partner when he heard him standing. The expression on Cameron's face shows both surprised and fear. Devius watched as Detective Lee took out the phone from his pocket and with a trembling hand. He walked towards the nearby window because he answered it.
"Hello." He swallowed before speaking.
A familiar chuckle was heard. "Did you like my surprise? Lee Jin Hong... do you finally know who he is?" Red spoke in a teasingly manner.
"What are you playing? Giving me things I don't understand. Who are you really? And what is your business with me? What's your purpose?" Detective Lee whisper-shouted.

"I am someone you know, Detective Lee. Those kids in the pictures especially the one who was standing beside you, once you found out his identity, you'll recognize me." He responded but Cameron was even more confused now.
"Why don't you just tell me who you are? Are you that kid? Just fucking tell me!" He exclaimed, almost everyone in the headquarters turned to his direction but he doesn't care at all.
Red laughed. "Oh, how I wish I was him. Remember, if you know yourself, then you know me. Until then, I'll show you everything you considered a nightmare, detective." After that, he hung up the call.
Cameron stared at his now black screened phone. Little by little, an idea was forming inside his mind. He has feeling that Red must know something about him, about his past. That person must know more than he thinks. If he managed to find out those pictures of his childhood, then this person is no ordinary villain. But for now, Cameron's mind is all about finding out who the kids in those photos are.
Detective Lee went back to his seat and sat back down. He stared at the photos again, trying his best to remember when was that taken and who was the kid with him. But no matter how hard he tried — his head was even starting to hurt — yet he still couldn't remember a single thing. He couldn't remember having a companion in that miserable place. He couldn't remember having someone beside him while suffering his hell-like past. But for some reason, a thought came to his mind — Do I really not remember anything or have I just deliberately forgotten it?
Officer Chad wanted to stand up to go to his partner to asked him and comfort him but he decided not to. Just by looking at Cameron, he knows something was wrong but he doesn't think it was the right time for him to take action. He just decided to let the detective be alone. He knows that Cameron needs space right now and that he will voluntarily tell him once he's ready.
With that, Officer Chad spent his time looking and reading some reports and information about the case they are handling. Everything is just the same information, only few are added which are not that too important. When he he felt tired, he turned to look at Cameron but his face is still as serious as ever so he decided not to bother him. Devius stood up and went out of the headquarters while stretching his arms and massaging his nape. Once outside, he took a deep breath of the fresh air and looked around. Everything is peaceful but not trustworthy. He took out his phone and dialed his best friend's number.
"Hey! What's up, Wayne?" Officer Chase exclaimed as soon as he answered the call.
"Hey, Issac. Where are you?" Devius asked while walking to find a place to sit on.
"I'm outside investigating about a minor robbery. Why? You missed me?" He teased.
Officer Chad chuckled. "You can say that. Detective Lee is busy so I'm alone today, wanna meet up?"
"I'm busy, I have to pass a report about this investigation." Isaac refuses.
"Tsk! Just go out with me for a while. Can you refuse your best friend? I'm alone here. So lonely, really lonely, Isaac. Come on." He mumbled like a child begging his parents to buy him a toy.
Isaac's laughed can be heard on the other line making Devius smile because he knew he got his friend. "Fine, I'm going there. Wait for me."
"Cool! See yah!" Officer Chad happily ended the call.
Meeting his best friend is also a break for him. Ever since they got a hand of the Killer Caller case, he became extremely busy and not able to visit his office. He mostly stayed at the detective headquarters and at Cameron's apartment if not outside. Even if he likes being with the detective, he can't deny the fact that he misses how he used to live before he became involved with the case.
He looked up to the sky and saw the beautiful cotton clouds formed. There are few birds flying. It's not so hot because it has been raining since the morning. The fresh, cold air is calming and the smell of leaves are very relaxing. It should have been a peaceful, normal day if he was living from two months ago. Just thinking about the case and how little their informations are, solving it will be very hard.
After several minutes, Officer Chase's car stopped in front of Devius. He smiled as he stood up and walk over to his friend's car.
"Hey! Looking handsome?" Officer Chad said as he get in the car.
Isaac shook his head. "You're a bad influence."
"Why?"
"You made me do what you always do."
"What?"
"Tss. You often skip your tasks before and you're often scolded. If you're not my friend, I wouldn't even answer your call." Officer Chase ranted.
Devius smiled. "Don't worry, you'll solve that case soon." He stated.
"Huh?" Isaac turned to him in confusion.
"Tell me, is there forced entry detected?"
"No..."
"What about the CCTV footage? Did they capture anything?"
"No." Isaac shook his head. "The store owner said he doesn't have CCTV in the store, no cameras at all." He added.
"So, no forced entry and no CCTV footage. I know who did it." Devius smiled in satisfaction.
Officer Chase furrowed his brows. "That fast? How? Who?" He queried.
"The owner."
"What?"
"The store owner is the culprit."
"How can you tell?"
"You just said the evidences. Trust me, do a background check. I'm sure the store is about to go bankrupt, that's why he did that to get some incentives." Devius explained.
Isaac looked at him in disbelief. "You're a genius. I'll do that, now I don't regret boycotting my job for you." He laughed.
"Tss. Let's go, then. I want to have some drinks but I can't get drunk. I have to go back later." He commanded his friend to which Isaac followed.
They both went to buy some beer and foods. Then they went to the park to eat and drink for a while. Watching the children play happily, hearing their laughter and seeing them chasing each other is a beautiful sight for both officers. Isaac and Devius spent some time at the park before finally agreeing to go back. Officer Chase drove his friend to the headquarters. They just bid a short farewell before going separate ways.
