《Call Of Death》Chapter 64 : Back

Detective Lee went home to check if Officer Chad was already there but everything was as quiet as a deserted island when he opened the door. Even the lights are off. He doesn't usually leave work when he's not done with the paper works but this time, he didn't mind even he left his unfinished task. All he wanted to do was make sure that Devius is safe and that nothing bad happened to him. He checked the bathroom, even the closet but he didn't find his partner. Cameron hurriedly went back downstairs and to the car but he didn't get in.
He was pacing back and forth around the car, feeling anxious, as he still couldn't contact the officer no matter how many times he called him. He tried calling Daena but she was busy with her studies so her brother is probably not with her at the moment.
"Damn it, Chad! Where are you?" He anxiously bit his lower lips.
His hands are cold and sweaty. He never felt this worried before. His heart was pounding rapidly. Cameron leaned on the car as he anxiously brushed his hair.
"Cam, you came back earlier than usual. Are you not supposed to be at the headquarters?" Detective Parker's voice made him turn to the door.
"Parker? Why are you here? You're supposed to be resting in the hospital, aren't you? Your wound's not healed yet." He furrowed his brows.
The detective shrugged his shoulder and walked towards his colleague. "I just got discharged this morning, I didn't call you anymore because I know you and Officer Chad are busy and I don't want to bother you juts to pick me up." Detective Parker explained. "...I went to the headquarters just now but they said you left early so I came here." He added.
"I couldn't stay at the headquarters, I'm worried about that annoying guy—Devius Chad, he wasn't here and he's not answering my calls. He didn't go to the headquarters either." Detective Lee said with a really deep, worried sigh.
"What do you mean? Are you telling me that Officer Chad is missing?" Detective Parker asked in confusion.
Cameron shook his head. "I don't know. I was hoping he's fine but I can't help myself from worrying that he might be in danger."
"Do you think someone took him? But he's a good fighter, isn't he? He's not an easy guy." Kairo crossed his arms.

"You're a good fighter too but you were stabbed." Detective Lee said, trying hard not to sound sarcastic.
"Try calling him again, see if he'll pick up." He suggested, Cameron did as he was told.
He took out his phone and reluctantly dialed his partner's phone number. He was worried of two things; the phone not being answered and the call being picked up. He took a deep breath and swallowed hard as he slowly reach his hand and place the phone in his ear. Few moments later, it was still ringing. When he was about to give up and decided that the officer will not answer the phone just like from the previous calls, he heard a beeping sound indicating that the call has been picked up.
"Devius Wayne Chad! Where are you? Why won't you answer my phone calls? I was dead worried about you!? Hurry up and come back here!" He asked consecutively but when he was expecting Officer Chad's voice to apologise, he heard a very familiar chuckle.
"Wow! How sweet. Too bad, he couldn't hear it because he's in a deep, deep sleep." Hearing Red's voice from the other line made Cameron's heart race in panicked.
"You? Why do you have Devius' phone? What did you do to him? Where is he!?" He exclaimed, feeling angry and worried at the same time.
"Shush... Don't worry, he's still alive—for now. I didn't plan to kill him yet." Red said in a teasing tone.
Detective Kairo Sedis Parker stood beside Detective Lee. He was silently but carefully listening to whatever they are talking about.
"If you ever touch him, I'll hunt you even if you run to hell, I swear, Red. If you lay a finger on him, I killed a thousand folds!" He threatened but only heard a laugh on the other line as a response.
"Nothing scares me anymore, detective. I've already been in hell and even Satan would feel embarrassed by facing me. Don't threaten me because that won't ever work. You're the one who should be scared because you have something to lose and I don't." Red's voice slowly became serious.
Detective Cameron Lee balled his fist. "What the hell do you want? Why are you doing this? If you wanted me, don't involve Devius. Just come at me and I'll face you, you bastard!" He shouted.

"Aw. Do you want your lover back?" He said as if he was talking to a child.
"Return him to me." Were the only words he uttered.
"I'll grant your wish then. I'll give you an address, your boyfriend will be waiting for you there. But don't be late or you won't be able see him breathing, ever again." After that, the line was cut.
Hearing those words from Red, Cameron couldn't help himself from worrying about Officer Chad's welfare. He knew Devius could fight but the worst part is he doesn't knew Red at all.
"Dang it!" He cussed.
"Cam, is everything alright? Who called you?" Kairo asked.
He looked at Detective Parker who was just standing beside him. They both looked worried as they stare at the phone, waiting for the address that will be sent by Red. Cameron couldn't remember when was the last time he ever turned to God but right at that moment, he kept praying for Officer Chad to be safe. He promised himself that if anything happens to the man he love, he will make sure that Red will pay for it. He will make him pay for it.
'Don't you dare touch him or I'll hunt you!' Detective Lee said in his mind.
After a few moments, the phone received a text message from Red's number. He opened it and they both read the address sent. It looks familiar to him because he has been there before.
"What should we do, Detective Lee?" Detective Parker leaned on the car, sighing.
"I'll go to wherever this place is. I'll do whatever it takes to save Devius, Parker." He determinedly stated.
Detective Parker looked at him worriedly. "But you don't know what will happen to you if you go. You don't know what is waiting for you there. You should at least inform Chief Simon about this." He suggested but Cameron shook his head.
He took a deep breath and turned to face his colleague. "I can waste no time, Kairo."
"But can't you at least wait for help? You can't just meet a possible killer alone, Lee."
"If I'm going to wait for help, Devius can be in a more danger in every second. The longer I spent on waiting, the shorter his safety will arrived. I can't risk it, Parker. I have to help Chad, I can't let him get hurt." Detective Lee said, opened the door of the car and took his gun.
Cameron started filling the magazine with bullets. Kairo watched his colleague helplessly as he load his gun. He tried calling their superior but her line was busy, probably talking to some investigators. After preparing everything, Cameron was about to get inside his car when a taxi stopped beside them.
"Cameron..." A familiar voice echoed as an elderly man got out of the taxi.
Detective Lee stopped what he was doing and slowly turned to the man. Detective Parker was also left dumbfounded as he stare at the person standing in front of him.
"D-Dad...?" Cameron stammered.
"Chief Harold Lee..." He only saw him from the photos at the headquarters but he couldn't be wrong.
"Yes, it's me." The man smiled warmly.
Cameron couldn't believe his eyes. His adopted father whom he had been searching for in such a long period of time was standing face to face with him right now. Not being able to see him nor talk to him for a long time, Cameron hurriedly walked towards his adopted father and hugged him tightly.
"Dad... Are you really back? Why did you vanished for so long? What happened to you?" He asked.
"Shush. We can talk about me after finishing your mission. I'll go at the headquarters, you go and save that kid." Harold patted him on the shoulder.
Cameron broke their hug and confusedly looked at his adopted father. "What did you know about that?"
"Don't ask anymore, Camz. Just do what I couldn't do before. Save that guy and don't regret about anything." Harold's smiled so warm that it gave Cameron more courage.
He nodded his head and went to his car. He glanced at his adopted father one more time before finally stepping on the gas and rushing away. He doesn't know what to think at that moment while he was driving. His adopted father suddenly showing up out of nowhere after vanishing for a long is surprising for him. He's been looking for Harold ever since he disappeared from a mission but he never found a clue. He's curious and confused but for now, he only chose to focus on saving the officer.

Fragments from the Wildlands
“Your first death is always the hardest.” Miguela was the third-born child of a well-off merchant family and knew from around the time she could speak that her life’s path was already decided. She was to become an Orator, as was Xandran tradition. However, Miguela had an affinity with the magikal arts and somehow found herself studying at the Academy. She did just enough to keep up with her studies but never found the motivation to apply herself and “reach her potential,” as her instructors often said. It was not that Miguela was uninterested in the arts. Rather, she knew her time at the Academy ultimately did not matter. Whenever Miguela returned home, she would become an Orator, and that would be that. Or so she believed until, one day, an opportunity appeared that would change her life. Miguela was offered the chance to join a research team tasked with a mission of the utmost importance to the future of the Five Kingdoms. She could not turn down the prospect of regaining control of her life and finally finding a purpose for herself. Of course, Miguela might soon discover that offers that appear too good to be true are usually fraught with lies. Welcome to Five Kingdoms of Cordizal! Question: What is the Five Kingdoms of Cordizal? I often get asked this type of question about my stories by friends, bloggers, and potential readers. The Five Kingdoms of Cordizal is a high-fantasy epic universe that is the setting for most of my stories. The foundation of the universe is its multicultural, multiracial setting with several sentient races attempting to carve their legacy and survive. The world is fully fleshed out and vibrant with a rich and mysterious history not based on Tolkien mythology. This brings me to magic. To me, magic is an essential part of the fantasy genre, so, of course, there is magic in the Five Kingdoms universe. However, one critical part of the Five Kingdoms universe is that magic is an abundant commodity that is a part of everyday life and not some plot device used to drive the story. In short, the Five Kingdoms universe is the setting of epic fantasy stories with deep characters and world-building. I try to tell as many different types of stories as possible in the universe, and hopefully, you can find something for you in it.

Gaslgiht
There is a common line of questioning that falls upon students within their first moments at Kingsly. “Why?”. The student asks, “Why am I here?”. This is a futile line of questioning. There are those who remember, and those who do not. I’ll spare you the technical explanation — that’s what we have teachers for. The jist is as follows: those who remember are... how do I put this... more likely. They occupy more time. and the space that time has allowed them — the pertinent amount — is experienced no matter what. Allow me to offer you a bit of personal information: I am not one who remembers. There is no time relevant to me, no space that I occupy. I exist by carving myself here, and continue to exist in the same fashion. You would do well to follow suit. Why am I here? Because I force myself to be. Because the universe, the universes, for all its kicking and screaming, cannot escort me out.
