《Only you can make me feel better... (Calamity x Drift)》Chapter 6: Meeting the SSDT
Advertisement
Me, Drift and Deadfire were on our way to wailing woods to meet the SSDT. I was super excited to meet them! The only people I really know on this island are Drift and Sunstrider. But this was an opportunity to meet a lot of new people. As we were walking, I decided to ask something about the team. I wanted to know more about it. I could see the wrinkles around his cheeks so I knew he was smirking at the last part. Deadfire asked joining the conversation. He explained and I listened carefully.
It was pretty interesting. I actually am enjoying the walk to Wailing Woods. The sun is shining which makes the day super relaxing. I questioned him more. He sounded pretty happy about the thought of having his own bathroom.
I said looking at him. Drift said and we looked in front of us. Wow... The house looked like a prefect place for a vacation. Deadfire was walking towards the door and I also started walking towards the door until I felt someone grabbed my wrist. I looked behind and looked at drift, who was holding my wrist. He said with a kind voice. But he IS kind. He has done so many things for me now. I put my hand on his shoulder and hugged him. I enjoyed the hug until SOMEONE interrupted us. Deadfire yelled while chuckling. I looked up while still hugging Drift and noticed it started raining a little. Drift mentioned. No shit.
We walked towards the door where Deadfire was waiting for us. The house had like a flat roof above the door so we wouldn't get wet. Drift opened the door with his keys and we all walked in and we saw the whole team was here. Everyone nicely greeted us and me and Deadfire greeted them back. Then a old man with a black suit walking forwards. I think he is John Wick.He said and we shaked hands. Deadfire said a little awkward.

Well, it is awkward walking in and seeing EVERYONE in the room. John mentioned the team with his hand. I said excited and I walked to the team with Deadfire. Drift and John were walking to the kitchen. All of them were sitting on the big couch so we joined in by sitting on the couch with them. Me and Deadfire greeted them with a warm smile. They all said hello and then Sunstrider started talking. Sunstrider was introducing until two pillows were thrown at her face. I looked at the direction of were the pillows came from and saw that Technique and Brite Bomber threw those pillows. I laughed at what just happened and the rest joined in.
Brite said chuckling. Sunstrider said. I giggled at what she said. Sunstrider finished. Dire asked. I was feeling pretty happy now, with meeting a lot of new people. It also felt like a warm welcome. Technique said smiling softly at me.
Then Drift and John came to us with 2 trays of slurps. John said as he and Drift placed down the trays. Everyone thanked John and Drift and grabbed a slurp. I removed my bandanna and drank my slurp. John sat on the couch and Drift sat down next to me, on my left and Deadfire was on my right. The couch was a 'U' form and it was big so everyone could see each other and we all fitted in. We were all talking with each other and laughing. I finished the slurp and to my surprise, it was very tasty for a blue drink.
I placed it back on the coffee table. In the meantime it was raining very hard by now so it would be impossible for me and Deadfire to go home. But I didn't mind because I was having a blast. Then suddenly there was a bright flash and immediately after the flash a hard thunder. All the lights also went out after the bright flash. Everyone screamed and I quickly clutched to Drift for my dear life. He secured his arms around me which instantly made me feel safer. The thunder was so hard I assumed the lighting was close to the house. Usually I wouldn't be scared of a storm, but this was the first time I heard a thunder this close.

When the thunder sound ended everyone was silent and only the hard rain could be heard until John spoke. John asked. Fortunately everyone was fine. I heard John get up and walk somewhere. It was pitch black so I couldn't see anything. I heard Drift softly whisper. I responded with a slightly shaky voice. Sunstrider teased. Drift said with a sarcastic voice. I heard Sunstrider giggle. Then another bright flash was able to be seen with a loud thunder, but this thunder was MUCH louder. Everyone screamed again and I dug my face in Drift's neck and clutching him harder and he hugged me tighter and rubbed my arm. Drift whispered in my ear.
My eyes were tightly shut and when I opened them again, I saw a small light coming from the stairs. It was John. John said as he walked towards us. John placed the candle on the table that was already lit and then he lit the other candles and placed them on the table. John said and sat on the couch.
Deadfire asked worried. John said. I said with a smile. John offered. I said looking at him with a smile. Wow John says 'kids' or 'kiddos' alot of times.
Everyone except for me, Deadfire, Drift and Raptor grabbed a candle and went upstairs to their room. There was one candle left on the table for us so that was relieving. John came back with blankets and handed it over to us. John said and walked upstairs. As I wanted to unfold the blanket, Drift touched my hand and I looked at him. He asked with a soft and sweet voice.I said. Drift chuckled and I laid down next to Drift and cuddled him.
I put my head on his chest and he pulled the soft blanket over us and put his arm around me. I slightly heard Raptor whisper/squeal. Deadfire whispered. I threatened. Deadfire raised his hands in defeat and laid down. Raptor looked terrified and quickly laid down too. Drift said chuckling. I said giggling. I closed my eyes and fell asleep quickly.

The Last Science [SE]
[SE has the same content as the original story, split into smaller chunks for easier reading. This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion. For the first time, a developer partnered with a tabletop RPG maker to use their system to create a VRMMORPG, and it was one of the systems designed to be used with superhero games!
