changbin sat in the hospital room beside felix, refusing to leave until the boy woke up. he had sat there for a few hours at this point, and the school day finally ended, meaning their other friends would be there soon.
hyunjin and jeongin exchanged knowing looks upon the realization that their other friends would be joining them now.
"you saw what changbin did to chan back at school before he knew what happened, what do you think he will do to him now?" jeongin whispered to hyunjin.
"i'm not exactly sure, but i know it won't be good." hyunjin responded, beginning to worry about what exactly would happen when chan and changbin see each other face to face.
it wasn't long after that, that the other boys arrived. they all stood outside the room, mentally preparing themselves for what they were about to see.
minho held jisung's hand as the two of them walked in, and seungmin hesitantly followed behind them.
after those three walked in, chan completely lost his courage to join them. for awhile, he just stood outside the room, wondering to himself how he was going to face felix when this was all his fault.
chan blamed himself wholeheartedly. he felt he deserved no forgiveness or understanding, yet no one besides changbin really seemed angry with him. then again, changbin is also the only one to think the worst of chan.
chan finally decided to walk in. he slowly opened the door, and took his first step into the room. as soon as he saw felix lying there in the bed, his eyes began to water.
changbin's head snapped around once he heard the door shut to see who was now in the room with them. once he noticed it was chan, he began fuming with rage.
"what is he doing here?" changbin turned and asked the other three boys that just walked in prior.

"he's felix's friend too changbin." minho stated.
"i... don't... care..." changbin was shaking from his anger, it was getting harder and harder to control it.
"changbin, this isn't chan's fault." seungmin defended the latter.
"SHUT UP SEUNGMIN, IT IS HIS FAULT AND HE KNOWS THAT!" changbin shouted. hyunjin walked over and placed a hand on changbin's shoulder, trying to relax him.
"get off." changbin said sharply as he stood up and began walking towards chan, "why are you here?" changbin asked as he watched chan back away from him in fear.
"i-i came to see felix." chan said nervously.
"you did this to him, why would you come here?" changbin asked again.
"i-i didn't m-mean to d-do this t-to him." he stuttered out as his bottom lip quivered.
"I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU MEANT TO DO!" changbin slammed his hands against chan's chest, causing him to stumble backwards.
"i'm s-sorry." chan now had tears rolling down his cheeks, but changbin still had no remorse.
"you should be, you almost fucking killed him! i thought you had feelings for him!" changbin shouted at the boy.
chan looked around at the shocked faces, now they all knew how he felt towards felix.
"ANSWER ME! DID YOU OR DID YOU NOT HAVE FEELINGS FOR HIM?" changbin continued yelling, getting in chan's face.
"I DID-- I MEAN I DO!" chan responded, tightly shutting his eyes out of fear.
"THEN WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO HIM?" changbin asked.
"i was so hurt," chan's expression showed how upset he was, "i never meant to hurt him too. i just-- i couldn't take it anymore. i'm in love with him, but he continues to only care about you. it's not fair!"
"YOU ALMOST KILLED HIM AND ALL YOU CAN THINK ABOUT IS YOURSELF! DON'T YOU SEE THE IMPACT OF YOUR WORDS?" changbin gripped onto chan's collar and shoved him against the wall, raising him up slightly, "what did you even say to him?"

"i know i was wrong... i wish i could take it back--"
"tell me exactly what you said to him." changbin's voice wavered a bit from his bubbling anger.
"i told him he lost me... i told him... i-i... i told him that everyone had someone else. jisung has minho, jeongin has hyunjin, you had hyunjin... and i told him seungmin and i just didn't care about him." chan mumbled, his words shocking all of his friends.
"i'm s-sorry." chan cried out as he felt his entire body shake.
"sorry doesn't bring someone back from the dead," changbin said, thinking of ryujin in that moment, "do you have any idea how lucky you are that felix is still alive?"
chan shook his head to show he did understand that he was lucky, but that wasn't enough for changbin.
"you'll get another hug. another goodbye, another i love you. you'll get another everything. you're so FUCKING lucky!" changbin threw a punch at chan, trying to get rid of his own anger.
"i know-"
"you don't know, you've never had to experience it!" changbin dropped chan onto the ground, and hovered over him as he threw more punches.
"changbin stop, you're hurting him!" hyunjin shouted at the boy.
"I DON'T CARE! HE DESERVES IT!" changbin continued beating on chan. changbin seemed as though he had lost his humanity due to how ruthless he was being.
"you don't understand chan, you still fucking have him!" changbin couldn't stop thinking about ryujin, about how much he would've regretting pushing felix away right before his death just like he did to his own sister, "YOU GET ANOTHER CHANCE!"
changbin couldn't stop. his pain was fueling him, and no matter how many of the boys tried to hold him back, he was able to shake them off.
chan didn't fight it either. he felt like he deserved the beating, and took every shot changbin threw at him.
"i-i am s-sorry." chan said practically gasping for air.
"SORRY ISN'T ENOUGH!" as changbin wound up for another punch, minho stepped in and grabbed onto the boy's wrist tightly. he couldn't let changbin hurt chan anymore, even if it meant he himself would get hurt now too.
"stop it changbin, he's hurt! you've done enough." minho instructed.
"he deserves to be hurt." changbin said through grit teeth, shaking minho off to punch chan again.
"YOU'RE KILLING HIM CHANGBIN." changbin stood there silent, contemplating whether or not he should continue hitting chan.
"think about felix," minho said nervously, "think about how he'll feel when he wakes up knowing you killed his best friend."
"he doesn't deserve felix as a best friend."
"but he is... and you know that. you know felix is very forgiving, but he would never forgive you for killing chan." minho reasoned with the boy, even if his punches really wouldn't kill chan.
changbin got off of chan's beaten and bloody body, shoving him slightly while he did so. he then walked right back to felix's bedside not caring about his bloody knuckles or the sweat dripping from his forehead. he only cared about felix.

Isolation is terrible. To feel isolated with your fellow man around you is worse. What if you were dumped in some backwards cave somewhere, completely nude, maybe with your family, or even completely alone? The age of pioneers, heroes, generals, and geniuses is long gone. Humankind has become numb to the world around it because of how paltry everything else is compared to the glory of its history, the sheer volume of their accomplishments, and the sum of its innovations. You can interact with people across the world, travel miles in mere hours, and never prepare your own food or shelter, and it's all accessible to even the normalest of individuals. Artificial intelligence is within arms reach in devices and computers and even houses, and neural interfaces aren't exclusive to the rich and powerful at this point. Someone far in the distance took notice of Earth, saw the multitude of hairless apes swarming its surface. That one went down the checklist to see if humanity had, in fact, beaten the 'game' of Life. Sure enough, they had gone above and beyond the requirements, but nobody had been watching. 'Why might that be?', that one wondered. Protocol was protocol, though, no matter how strange the situation was. They pulled the lever, they flipped the switch. It's time for New Game +. ???
