"hello?" changbin's mother called out as she walked through the door, "changbin?"
"up here mom!" changbin yelled as he and felix got off of his bed and started making their way down the stairs.
"what were you two boys doing?" she asked with a cheeky smile.
"trying to nap, but you got here earlier than expected." changbin spoke honestly.
"well aren't you happy i'm home?" she teased, and changbin just nodded his head.
"i'm glad you two boys are awake, you can help me cook dinner!" she said enthusiastically.
"when will dad be home?" changbin was already starting to feel the emptiness in his stomach, he really just wanted to eat.
"in about twenty minutes, so don't worry, you will be fed soon." she said as she stroked changbin's hair.
"you really are always hungry." felix laughed as he walked over to changbin's side.
"my boy eats well." changbin's mother added.
"yeah, you could learn a thing or two from me." changbin teased felix.
"hey!"
"you don't eat well? tonight you have to, otherwise i'll be insulted!" changbin's mother had a sweet voice, one that was similar to someone felix once knew.
"i will eat well tonight, thank you." felix blushed a deep shade of pink, but his mind was elsewhere after that brief moment.
as soon as everyone got to work in the kitchen, felix was left to his thoughts. he was chopping up some vegetables and his mind began to wander.
the sweet voice of changbin's mother reminded him of his own mom. felix's mom wasn't always so cold and emotionally unavailable. she used to be the only person felix would trust with his innermost feelings.
he missed the days his mother would be able to comfort him and make him smile. he missed the warmth that would radiate off of her body as she smothered felix in hugs.

but felix knew she was never coming back. he had mourned the loss of her a long time ago, all he can do now is appreciate the time he did have with her, same way he does with his father, his grandmother, and now even his ex-best friend, chan.
"you okay, bokkie?" changbin asked as he placed a gentle hand on felix's back.
"i'm okay." felix's lips slowly curled into a smile, but his eyes revealed his despair.
"don't think so much, it'll only hurt you." changbin said softly so his mother would not hear.
the blonde nodded in response, his freckles sprinkled across his face as a small, genuine smile appeared.
"i love you." felix mouthed inaudibly.
"i love you too," but changbin said this out loud, making felix's eyes widen.
he was worried how changbin's mother may react, but changbin didn't even seem the least bit concerned.
"i'm home!" a man's voice yelled, snapping felix out of his fear.
"we're in here honey, dinner is just about ready!" changbin's mother called out.
felix stared at changbin with a worried expression, making changbin stifle a laugh.
"she knows i love you, so does he. there is no reason to hide it." changbin smiled as he cupped felixs face in his hands.
"still," felix put his hands on changbins arms to make him stop cupping his face, "not so public."
"don't be embarrassed of me, especially in my own home." changbin began to pout.
"i-i'm not embarrassed!" felix retorted, not realizing how loud he was being.
"some people just don't like public displays of affection, you should respect his wishes changbin." his father scolded as he intertwined his fingers with his wife's.
felix's eyes softened at the sight. his heart began to speed up as he felt tears prick at his eyes. why is this making me so emotional?

"it's nice to see you two so happy together." the words just seemed to fall out of felix's mouth, no real thought given to it.
"no," changbin's mother shook her head, "it's nice to see my son so happy. thank you, felix." she walked over and gently brushed her fingertips against felix's cheek.
"my son deserves a beautiful boy like you, both inside and out." she then walked away, going over to set the table.
"they like me?" felix asked once it was just him and changbin left in the kitchen.
"oh come on felix, it's obvious that they love you." changbin ruffled felix's hair with a smile spreading across his face.
felix just stood there with a pout as he aggressively tried to fix his hair.
"come on, bokkie, let's go have some dinner." changbin grabbed onto felix's hand and pulled him towards the dining room.
both of them knew once this dinner was over, there was something important for them to discuss, but that was for later.
for now, they remained happy, and enjoyed the blissful ignorance of what is waiting for them in the future.
