《Calamity Falls》Chapter 13

"SHE'S WHAT?" Lizzy shrieked making me glare at her. "Sorry" she apologised her cheeks tinting pink. "She's missing" I said again. "But how? When? Where? Who?" she ranted running her hands through her brown hair.
"How's Rie?" she asked biting her lip. "Bad and with her current condition I'm worried" I sighed running my hand through my hair. "Condition?" she gasped. "Is she pregnant?" she asked, her blue electrifying eyes moving around in panic
"YES! I win. In your face Norman" she screamed before grabbing the money placed on the table. "Wow, I'm proud of you" I faked crying
"Why are you staring at me?" a voice said. I realised it was Shelby who spoke. "Did you know you're so beautiful?" I smirked. Her cheeks were suddenly painted red making her look even more cute, if that's a word
"So what are you cooking for dinner?" I said looking at the time as it read eight forty-six pm. She shrugged then walked to the kitchen with me on her tail. "I was thinking of casserole" she said turning to face me to which I shrugged. "Whatever you wanna make" I said
Lee was hunched over, holding his stomach as he kept vomiting out blood and there Daniel was at the corner hugging his legs in a foetus like position, rocking back and forth. "Help" Lee manage to say with blood dripping at the sides of his mouth
"MOM" I heard Daniel scream as I got to the bottom of the stairs. I snapped my head up to look at Riele only to find her on the floor passed out.
"Riele Downs" I heard the doctor call out making my head snap in his direction from its formal position on my palms.
"That's me" I voiced out, standing up to meet him. I shook his hands once I was at his front "Can I go see her?" I asked in worry
"Follow me" he said then turned around walking away from me and before I knew it, my legs began following him as he moved through the twists and turns of the hospital, confusing me slightly
We finally stopped in front of a door with the words *Room 12B* painted on it with the colour black. The doctor grabbed the handle and in a swift motion, opened the door wide enough for him to walk through. I entered after him, closing the door as well
The room was brightly lit and also with the infamous walls of the colour white. There was a cabinet at the other side of the room and at the corner of the room was a bed with white spread sheets on but something else was on it, or perhaps someone
I walked over to the bed and what I saw shocked me. There Riele was laid, her hair sprawled above her head. Her eyes were closed making me wonder if she was dead or not but the slight rise and fall of her chest informed me that she was still awake if not in a good condition
A drip that was hung on the drip stand was being injected into her through a transparent cord. There was a big machine at the side of her bed, beeping loudly, slightly irritating my ears. The zig-zag lines that was displayed on the screen was another assurance that she was still alive.

Something confused me though , there was a mask on her face which had a long cord leading to what I assume was an oxygen tank. "What happened?" I asked in confusion and fright.
"Well one, whatever news she received or whatever had happened was too much for her to handle. It seemed like she had an emotional instability at first then something must've happened recently that made her have a heart attack because her blood pressure is extremely high right now, let's just hope it reduces. Her heart is pumping slowly, though it'll work more efficiently the more she rests" the doctor sighed.
"And second, apparently she had a panick attack. Now she needs to be wear this mask that is connected to the oxygen tank since she can't really breath properly on her own. I'm afraid it seems as her only support of living, for now though. I'm sure she'll recover, it depends on how fast her body heals itself" he explained and the ringing in my ear intensified
A lump formed in my throat "Heart... Panick attack?" I asked in shock to which he nodded. I tugged my hair frustrated 'I told Lizzy not to do this but she won't listen'. I sighed "Where's Lee and Daniel? The two kids I brought in here with her" I said pointing at Riele
"Let's go. I'll explain his state on the way" he said walking out of the room. With one last glance at Riele, I left the room closing the door behind me. I jogged to meet up with the doctor whose fast steps catapulted him to my front with a large gap between us.
"As you can see when you brought him in, he had lost so much blood. After some tests, it was proven to be food poisoning." he said.
My jaw dropped in shock "Poison?" I breathe out in disbelief to which the man nodded in confirmation.
"Thankfully, it was just a little amount of it. We were fortunately able to flush the poison out of his system. All that is needed now, is to replace the blood he lost. It is advisable to have a blood transplant" he said stopping in front of a door with the words *Room 17c* boldly written on. He placed his hand on the handle then twisted it open not giving me the time to reply.
The familiar smell of detergent stung my nose as I walked in after the doctor; I made a choking noise based on what I saw. Lee was attached to more wires and machines than Riele was. From where I was stood, I wouldn't have been able to differentiate him from the white hospital spread sheets. He looked ghastly, as white as a sheet of paper.
My heart throbbed in pain seeing him in this condition. Life isn't fair, he is still so young to be going through things like this. I walked to his bed before taking a sit on the chair next to the bed. Daniel was on the same bed as Lee was; His hands and Lee's hands were wrapped around each other tightly as if afraid that the other would disappear if he lets go.

They were both sleeping soundly, well Daniel was sleeping, Lee was obviously unconscious or in coma. I felt something wet and warm slide down my face and I hurriedly wiped it off but the others betrayed me; They kept falling like rain dropping down from the sky: uncontrollable.
I looked up at the doctor, then at Lee's fragile body. "I'll donate my blood" I choked out looking straight at the Lee's pale face.
"You sure?" he asked and I nodded in haste. "Ok, let's get a sample of your blood for test. The faster, the better" his brows furrowed in concentration before he walked out of the room with me hot on his tail as he took brisk steps
"How did he get food poisoning?" I asked curious.
"It must have been from his last food. The food was clearly poisoned meaning someone must've poisoned it" the man said, sympathy was painted on his face.
"His last food?" I thought out loud. "I don't know what food he had last since I was at work but the only food he could've eaten was the food prepared by the nanny" I said picking up the pieces.
"You don't think she did it, do you?" the man stopped for a while, studying me with his dull green eyes.
"I'm not sure, I have no evidence to prove it but since Riele can't walk talkless of cooking. The nanny is the only person in the house capable of cooking" I said as realisation hit me hard, like a brick, straight in the face.
"A simple task was all you were to do. I gave you one thing, ONE THING to do and you couldn't" I screamed at the crying figure whose hair I had in my hands, pulling furiously at.
She whimpered "I did as you said, I swear" she gasped trying to breathe as her tears made it slightly difficult for her to
"If you did as I said Riele would be dead by now. Wouldn't she? you good for nothing piece of shit" I snapped at her face before tossing her to the other side of the room. Her screams of pain filled the already hot air of the confined room.
She sat up, coughing out blood as her eyes were red, puffy and bloodshot from the painful sobs that had being emitting from her. Blood trailed down from her nose to her already busted and bloody lip before dripping to the floor. She stood up as quickly as she could, backing up as I advanced towards her, taking long strides.
I dipped my hand in my back pocket bringing out the fear of most people. The cold metal sent electrifying shivers down my back as I ran my fingers over it, admiring it and scaring the young lady in front of me
"I swear, I did as you told. I added it in her food, I don't know how she isn't dead yet but I assure you she's-" I cut her off.
"ENOUGH" I barked at her making her mouth glue shut including her eyes as she shivered visibly in fear.
"I gave you an instruction, just one and you defied me. Do you know what happens when someone defies me?" I asked her only to be met by silence
"DO YOU?" I asked in annoyance. She whimpered before shaking her head vigorously, her jet black hair was incredibly messy, resembling a bird's nest.
"They die" I said making a wail erupt from her mouth. I corked the gun at her as her eyes flew open, fear and pain swam in her golden brown orbs
"Please" she begged bringing her hands in a prayer like manner, unshed tears glistering her eyes
I scoffed "Nothing you say will change my mind, Melody". "Good night"
Just as I was about to pull the trigger the door to the room flew open will a bang. The sound filling up the silent room except from the heavy breathes from me and the never ending whimpers coming from Melody.
I snapped my head over to the door to see who dared to interrupt one of my torture sessions. "What do you want?" I asked my grip on the gun was tighter than before
"I have news sir" he said. His black shirt did nothing to hide his muscles as he folded his arms behind his back. He had black ripped jeans with a pair of white and black Adidas on. This peeked my interest
"Go on" I said, forgetting totally about Melody as my full attention was on the man standing at the door, at least ten feet away from me.
"It's about Riele Downs and her family" he said. My earlier stretched arm, that was holding a gun which was pointed at Melody, lowered and Melody's ragged breath of relief filled my ears as I turned my body towards the man
"What about her?" I asked the man not caring about Melody
"The poison didn't work for her, actually she never ate the food, she gave it her son, Lee, who is now in the hospital suffering from food poisoning. Riele however got an heart attack after Jade, her best friend, sent a letter to her telling her how angry she was when Riele didn't call her when Riele an accident. She is also in the hospital now recovering, hopefully" he finished and a smiled broke unto my face
"That is great news" I paused before looking over at Melody who was cowering in fear as soon as my eyes landed on her "Seems like I won't be killing you today" I sighed disappointed, I couldn't see blood spill.
She sighed in relief only to hold her breathe again as I began "Though-"I paused, grinning at her "I'll still need your help" I finished watching as her face twisted from a look of fear to disgust and then pain.
'This just got way better' I thought, smirking
