《Calamity Falls》Chapter 14

"Riele Downs" I heard the doctor call out making my head snap in his direction from its formal position on my palms.
"That's me" I voiced out.
"Whatever news she received or whatever had happened was too much for her to handle. It seemed like she had an emotional instability at first then something must've happened recently that made her have a heart attack because her blood pressure is extremely high right now" the doctor sighed.
I sighed "Where's Lee and Daniel? The two kids I brought in here with her" I said pointing at Riele.
"Let's go. I'll explain his state on the way" he said walking out of the room. "As you can see when you brought him in, he had lost so much blood. After some tests, it was proven to be food poisoning." he said.
My jaw dropped in shock "Poison?" I breathe out in disbelief to which the man nodded in confirmation.
"How did he get food poisoning?" I asked curious.
"It must have been from his last food. The food was clearly poisoned meaning someone must've poisoned it" the man said, sympathy was painted on his face.
"I'm not sure, I have no evidence to prove it but since Riele can't walk talkless of cooking. The nanny is the only person in the house capable of cooking" I said as realisation hit me hard, like a brick, straight in the face.
"A simple task was all you were to do. I gave you one thing, ONE THING to do and you couldn't" I screamed at the crying figure whose hair I had in my hands, pulling furiously at.
"I swear, I did as you told. I added it in her food, I don't know how she isn't dead yet but I assure you she's-" I cut her off.
"They die" I said making a wail erupt from her mouth. I corked the gun at her as her eyes flew open, fear and pain swam in her golden brown orbs
"Please" she begged bringing her hands in a prayer like manner, unshed tears glistering her eyes
I scoffed "Nothing you say will change my mind, Melody". "Good night"
"Dad, when will mom wake up?" the little six year old boy in my hands asked, his throat sounded forced and dry.
I sighed before placing him down and walking to the side of the bed where a jug of water was placed with a glass cup. I began pouring the content of the jug into the glass before handing it to him as he took a huge gulp
"I don't know Dan. Let's just hope she recovers quickly and so does Lee" I rubbed my tired eyes. I've been here for some hours now; Riele and Lee were brought in around ten pm last night and now it is twelve pm in the afternoon. Although, I did go home with Daniel to shower then came back.
"Lee isn't awake yet?" Daniel asked, fresh tears brimming in his already exhausted eyes. I frowned before picking him up as he wrapped his hands around my neck, crying into it. I began muttering comforting words into his ear trying to calm him down, which actually worked
"Daniel, trust me when I say Lee and Mom will wake up. To be honest, I don't know when but I faith that they'll wake up. Now please stop crying; Mom would never want to see you like this, would she?" I asked to which he shook his head no

"Good now please stop that, you know Lee will be angry with you if he sees you like this. For mom and Lee, be strong. You're a strong boy, ok? Now where's that smile I love seeing?" I smiled before tickling him earning giggles from him
"Stop it dad. I'll pee" he gasped trying to catch his breath as I tickled him. I eventually stopped to avoid my cloths from being messed up.
"Are you sure you don't want to go to school?" I asked placing him on my laps as I took a sit on the chair beside the bed. He nodded and I sighed "Whatever you say Daniel" I said looking over at Riele's 'sleeping' figure
The door to the room opened and in came the familiar man whose name I learnt was Dr. Barnes. "Hey Doc. How's Lee?" I asked as his figure came in view. He stroked his black beard with specks of grey hair in it before proceeding to answer
"He's progressing at least he is better than the way he was when you brought him here and I've been seeing some improvements" he said before his forest green eyes moved over to Riele.
"And how is she?" I asked, a little afraid of his answer
"She's improving very fast may I say. She just needs more time to rest, she'll be fine. I'm sure she's wake up soon" he said looking down at his wrist watch but I could see uncertainty clouding his face making me worry slightly.
"I'll be off now. If you need anything, ask a nurse to lead you to where I am" he said before exiting the room, leaving me, Daniel and a recovering Riele in the room.
"Can I go stay with Lee?" Daniel asked.
"Do you know where to go?" I asked unsure
"I'll tell a nurse to take me there. Can I go now?" he pleaded to which I nodded then watched as he jumped off my laps and ran out the door.
I sat in the room, silence killing me so I did the first thing that came to my head "Hey Riele" I said watching her unresponsive body. "I hope you're fine... Well of course you're not" I shook my head
"It would be really advisable for you to wake up Rie 'cause the boys need you. They need their mother and there's little to nothing I can do given that I don't know the first thing about taking care of a child. Mary needs you too" I sighed running my hand in my hair. Just then the door slammed open and a melodious voice rang across the room
"Oh hey Jace. How are you? What are you doing here? You should be at work" I turned around to find Shelby in a short black skirt and a baby pink tight fitting shirt on. Her face was dolled up with so much makeup making her look even more beautiful.
"I'm good... I'm here to see Riele and I can't leave her" I explained watching as she entered the room, her black strapped heels clicking against the hard tiled floor.
"What do you mean? Are you guys dating?" she asked, anger flashing across her eyes.
"No, she just helped me. It's a long story; Plus I have eyes for someone else" I licked my lips, my eyes raking her body from head to toe

"Oh... who?" she asked pushing her chest out the more
"Well, she has light brown hair, the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. Her lips are so full I feel like kissing them all day long and never stopping. Her body is drop dead gorgeous that it takes so much power for me not to ravish her body in a second. Most importantly her name is..." I watched as she drew her lip into her mouth biting it in a sexy matter almost making me loss it
"Her name is Shelby" I breath out trying to control my body
"Oh that's wonderful" she giggled before walking over to me and sat on my laps turning her full attention to me. "Apparently, I have a little liking for you as well" she winked before placing a sloppy wet kiss on my lips making me moan in content
I pulled away when I heard someone sniffling
I just want to die right now. How could he do that? I love him so much, he shouldn't have done that. 'But he's not the real Jace. He's not the Jace you fell in love with' my inner voice said. 'I know but it still hurts' I thought. Tears trailed down my face as I saw her sucking his face off and he was enjoying it
I sniffled and this seemed to bring them back to earth, seeing as they were on cloud nine earlier. "Oh hello Ms. Downs" Shelby smirked at me, mischief shining in her eyes making me glare at her.
"Hey Rie, how are you feeling? Why are you crying, does somewhere hurt?" the voice that usually made butterflies fly in my gut now made my heart crack into two. I avoided eye contact with him afraid I would scream at him for what he did but I can see he is very happy with her and I can't stop him from loving her even if it hurts me in the process
"I'm ok, nothing's wrong" I muttered, counting the cracks on the wall trying to distract myself from the scene that was just played in front of me.
"Jace you should come back to work" Shelby voiced out
"I can't Shelby, I have to be here for Riele and Lee also Daniel" he said making a small smile creep unto my face
"I'm sure they can take care of themselves and Daniel, he needs to go to school doesn't he?" she said clearly annoyed.
"Well yes but he doesn't want to go to school. He wants to stay here with Lee and I'll do the same" I could almost hear the frown in his voice
"Um, I mean... Well... Riele, what do you think?" she asked and I snapped my head in her direction before looking back at Jace then at Shelby again. I shivered involuntarily as her glare pierced into my soul as if daring me to say something contrary to what she said.
I broke eye contact with her and lowered my head "You need to go to work Jace and you can get Daniel to go to school as well, I'm sure Lee and I will be alright" the words felt sour as they left my mouth
"You sure?" I heard him ask to which I nodded, afraid of looking up at him with Shelby there 'Now the tables are turned I guess' I thought
"Alright Rie. Let's go babe" he said and before I knew it him and Shelby were out of the room finally giving me the room to breath properly. I looked back to where him and Shelby were sat before bursting into tears
Minutes past and I was finally able to calm down "I guess he doesn't need me again maybe I don't need him as well. Yes I can move on with my life and I will" I said determined. "But the main question is how will I?" I asked myself with a frown planted on my face
"Explain how everything went. In details may I add" I stared at the familiar man in front of me. He took a sit on the chair opposite mine. We were facing each other with only a desk separating us.
He proceeded to explaining everything to me and to say I was happy will be an understatement; I was elated. Even though this wasn't what I planned it felt as if everything was in my favour and falling the way I want it to.
I stood up from my chair before walking over to the window at the side of the room, feeling the man's eyes on me "What to do now?" I thought out loud.
"Can I suggest something?" I heard the man speak behind me making me snap my head in his direction. His brown eyes held mischief making me feel proud of who I made him to be.
"Go on" I urged him to talk, interested in what he had in mind.
"As she's awake now, it wouldn't be good if someone just happens to show up and she dies suddenly, will it?" he said smirking widely. My laughter boomed on the four walls of the room. He frowned "It's not good?" he asked
My laughter turned to snickers before I was finally able to talk "It is but not what I want. It seems too... What's the word?... Simple and if I may say expected. Plus, after what she made me go through, I will make sure her death is slow and painful" I said, my eyes darkening
"What do you have in mind then?" he said cocking his brows at me
I smirked "Let her recover fully, she'll need her strength for what is going to hit her".
He's brows furrowed in confusion "What do you mean?"
"Let's just say, I have a lot planned for Ms. Downs. Shelby is doing a great job though, remind me to add $15000 to her payment" I said as he nodded. I brought out a cigarette from my drawer, lighting it with the lighter I pulled out from my pockets. Once lit, I placed the cigar in between my lips. "Where's the little girl? Mary?" I asked
"She's in her room, sir" he said.
"Good don't let her out again after the little stunt she pulled" I grunted to which he nodded. He stood up ready to leave till I called him back
"Oh and get me that Samuel guy, I need to have some business talk with him" I smirked as he nodded and left the room with a slam on the door.
Hope you guys liked it... Lemme know what you think

Our story follows Wolf Adler as he, along with every other human on Earth, are faced with a strange blue box filling up their vision, warning them about an upcoming reappropriation of every being of sufficient intelligence to a new planet for the initialization of some sort of System. Will he perish in this new world? Or will he thrive? Except for the first 4 chapters, Book 1 has been moved to Amazon Kindle Unlimited. Except for the first 4 chapters, Book 2 has been moved to Amazon Kindle Unlimited. If you do not have the financial means to purchase the books, then you may DM me on discord through my discord channel for a pdf version of the book. There is only one main protagonist, but the story does have more than one perspective that it is told from. It's mostly first person from the main protagonist and third person perspective for the livestreams. The beginning of the story has also been massively rewritten since most of the reviews as of 1/23/2022. The release schedule right now is dependent on my college classes and coursework, but I always try to keep it to at least one chapter every other day, if not one chapter every day. I do not write sexual content or harem stuff. I am also not very interested in writing romance, so if you think you might see some romance, then you are probably wrong unless it's only a slight hint at romance or a slow romance very far into the story. Lastly, know that I don't like long-winding antagonists that get on everyone's nerves and last throughout the entire story. And I do like plot twists, so if you are predicting something that you think is going to happen later on that you dislike, (particularly around the middle to end of book two) then it likely won't happen.

BODY&SHADOW
AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
