《The Calamity Girls (Book 1)》Anne and Rowena: frogs of the year

The whole town was gathered for a special ceremony. "Man, what's with this crowd?" I asked. "No, today, they announce the frog of the year award." Hop Pop explains. "Frog of the what?" Anne asked. "Frog of the hopping year, guys." Sprig replied. "Every year, the town gets together and votes on the frog they think best embodies the values of Wartwood." "We all voted last week." Polly added. "Don't you remember?" Anne and I nodded. Mayor Toadstool walked onto the stage to announce the award. "As you all know, the frog of the year goes to the most selfless, noble, blah, blah, blah." Mayor Toadstool ranted. "And this year's frog of the year award goes to, well, this can't be right, Anne Boonchuy and Rowena Warbler?" "What?" We asked as the crowd cheered for the both of us. Hop Pop told us to get up on stage, and was also crying. "Wow, thanks everyone, I don't know what to say." Anne said. "I do, I didn't think we were qualified for this." I added. "Are you people out of your frog-dang minds?" Mayor Toadstool asked. "They don't deserve to host a party!" "Party?" I asked. "What party?" "Oh, it's one of our oldest traditions." Toadie replied. "The frog of the year has to put on an incredible party for the entire town." "Yeah, and that party is supposed to demonstrate the frog of the year's selflessness." Mayor Toadstool added. "Anne and Rowena aren't selfless, far from it." "You don't know us?" Anne stammered. "We'll prove we deserve this by throwing a party so big, it'll blow all your minds!" The crowd thought their minds would blow up. "That's a good thing!" I exclaimed as they cheered. "I'm looking forward to seeing this thing go down in flames." Mayor Toadstool grunted.
After the ceremony, I helped Anne plan out the party we're supposed to throw. We showed the Plantar's our plan. "Here's our plan for throwing the best party ever, and proving that mayor wrong." I said. "Stupid mayor with his stupid dumb face." "Rowena, don't worry about what the mayor said, just have fun planning your party with Anne." Sprig smiled. "You're both Frogs of the Year!" Polly exclaimed. "Listen up, a great party has three main ingredients, entertainment, exclusivity, and spectacle." Anne explains. "Hop Pop, you're in charge of entertainment, I dub thee, Master of Ceremonies." I added, handing him a wireless mic. "I've been waiting for this day my entire life." Hop Pop gasped. "Polly, exclusivity, it's your job to decide who gets into the party and who doesn't." Anne explains. "I can't wait to abuse this power!" Polly gasped. "I can't believe this little tadpole is gonna make some frog abuse!" I cried. "I'm so proud!" "Sprig, you have the most important job of all, the spectacle." Anne explained. "Oh my frog!" Sprig squealed. "At the party, you get to tell Ivy how you really feel about her!" Anne replied. "What?" Sprig asked. "Yup, a legendary party needs a legendary spectacle." Anne continued. "Can you imagine how excited party-goers will be to see true love blossom before their eyes?" "That'll be so romantic." I commented. As much as I want to be excited for Ivy and Sprig, this is kinda pushing me closer to confessing my true feelings to Anne. Maybe tonight is the night. "I'm not really sure I'm ready for this." Sprig replied. "Sprig, please!" Anne begged. "We need your help to make this party amazing." "Okay." Sprig sighed. Anne cheered. "Let's bring the thunder!" I exclaimed.

We got to the square to see the progress on the party, some frogs even made a statue of Me and Anne. Everything was perfect. "Alright, Anne, you check on Hop Pop, and I'll check on Sprig." I said, walking over to Sprig. "Hey, buddy, how's the romantic proposal coming along?" I asked. "So, it's gonna go something like this." Sprig cleared his throat. "Uh, Ivy, I've got something to tell you." Sprig trips on a stone and falls. "Wow, you clearly aren't ready." I said. "You don't have to do this, between you and me, during my time here, I've kinda developed feelings for Anne, but I haven't told her how I feel because I wasn't ready, but if you want my advice, tell Ivy when you're good and ready." "I told you guys, this party has to be lit!" Anne snapped. "At this rate, it's gonna be lame, Hop Pop do some improv." "Improv, I've never done that before." Hop Pop said. "Sprig, work on that proposal, get some confidence, come on!" Anne exclaimed as Sprig looked over to me. Anne continued to give bossy orders to the townsfolk. "Uh, Anne, don't you think you're taking this a bit too seriously?" I asked. "No!" Anne snapped. "Hop to it!"
12 hours later, Anne's party was finally finished. Yes, I mean Anne's party. She replaced everything, like the statue of both of us was now just her, she was harder on Sprig for confessing his feelings towards Ivy, and had Hop Pop improv his jokes. We went to go greet the guests. "Welcome, friends to the best Frog of the Year party ever!" Anne exclaimed. The party wasn't the best at the start. Stumpy had a fish that was fresh and flopped away, Hop Pop sucked at improv, and Sprig ran away from Ivy. "This party stinks, some selfless frog of the year I turned out to be." Anne sighed, removing her sash from her body. At that moment, most of the party caught on fire. Anne saw me sitting alone. "I pushed you away, I was so caught up with creating the perfect party, I completely forgot that this award went to both of us, I'm sorry, Rowena." Anne apologized. "No need for an apology, we need to fix this, together." I replied. I grabbed Anne's hand as we jumped on the fish to control it. "I knew it!" Mayor Toadstool bragged. "Didn't I say it'd be a disaster?" We picked him up out of the fire. "Mayor Toadstool, I can't believe I'm saying this, but we're gonna need your help to save the town." I explained. "Me, work with you?" He scoffed. "Okay, just this once." "Great, I'll steer, you and Rowena grab." Anne ordered. "Don't tell me what to do!" Mayor Toadstool snapped. Mayor Toadstool and I grabbed the townsfolk and I put out the fire with a hose connected to the chocolate fountain. "We did it!" I cheered. "Yeah, we did do it." Anne sighed. "You were right about me, Mayor, I am selfish, I got so obsessed with proving I deserve this, I ruined everything, I even forgot that this party was about Rowena too." "I was also kinda selfish, when Anne was planning that party, I kinda wished that I broke that tie so I could plan a party in my own style." I confessed. "We're no Frogs of the Year, why did anyone even vote for us?" "Girls, we didn't vote for you because you're flawless, we voted for you because of how far you both have come." Hop Pop replied. "You two have grown so much in your time here, and this town just wouldn't be the same without you two." The crowd cheered for us. "Gosh dang it, I tried to fight it, but I have to say even I'm a little impressed with how you just saved the town from a raging inferno, here, this belongs to you." Mayor Toadstool said as he gave the sash back to Anne. "Thanks, Mayor, but actually this belongs to you." Anne replied as she put the sash on me. I blushed as everyone cheered us on again.

After we got everything under control at the party, I sat with Anne and Sprig at a nearby picnic table. "Sorry I had to rush you into confessing your love to Ivy." Anne apologized. "Like I said earlier, you do that when you're good and ready." I added. "Thanks, guys." Sprig thanked. "When the moment strikes, I'll know it." At that moment, Ivy comes up to us, looking nervous. "Hey, Sprig, there is something I've been meaning to ask you." Ivy stutters. "Do you think you might wanna go out with me sometime?" Sprig, Anne, and I squealed. "Eh, nevermind, it's stupid." Ivy stutters again as she hides behind her hat. "Ivy, wait." Sprig replied as he hid in his hat. "I'd love to." Ivy blushed. "Wanna dance?" "Heck, yeah!" Ivy replied as they ran off together. Okay, I think it's time, I'm gonna ask out Anne. We laughed as we saw Sprig dancing with Ivy. "Hey, Anne, we've been through so much in the last few months, I've been thinking about you a lot, so will you..." Suddenly, Toadie walked up to us. "Miss Frogs of the year, there's someone waiting at the bridge for you." Toadie explains. "They say they're a friend." "A friend?" Anne wondered.
I followed Anne to the bridge. A cloaked figure turned around and took off their hood, it was Sasha. "Anne?" Sasha asked. "Sasha?" Anne squeals and runs up to Sasha and pulls her into a hug. "Oh my gosh, you're here too?" Anne asked. "I wasn't sure, I woke up and found Rowena, is Marcy with you, where have you been, I missed you so much!" "Rowena?" Sasha asked. I walked up to them. "Hey, Sasha." I said nervously. "Long time no see." "Oh, Rowena, I'm so glad you guys kept each other safe!" Sasha exclaimed, hugging me tight, which was kinda suspicious. "Anyway, I'll fill you guys in later, for now, I'm just glad I found you, we came as soon as we heard." "We?" I asked. "Yep, just me and some friends of mine." Sasha replied. We looked behind her and saw toads. "Nice to finally meet you, Anne Boonchuy and Rowena Warbler." The toad leader said.

Greg Veder vs The World
The average person can easily understand that when it comes to living in a villain-infested, crime-filled city like Brockton Bay, treating life like a game can get you killed. It's kind of ironic, then, that Greg Veder has always been far more serious about games than he ever has about life. (Worm/The Gamer AU)

Life, the struggle for existence
What would happen when man had to, once again, fight for its own right to live? Would the evolutionary counterparts of our ancestors manage to life through the struggle for survival? What would happen to society if a new reason for living came up, other than the enjoyment of the well-built environment? A reason that could either unite or destroy humanity. This is the struggle for their right of existence. As earth and its inhabitants are faced with the fear of unknown danger and the peril of monstrosities, some will falter, some will die and some will live on to tell the tales of those forgotten. As reality dictates, most will be part of the first two groups and only a small faction will be part of the latter. *This is my first attempt at writing fantasy, so I do hope you’ll enjoy it. The story is one of apocalyptic nature, with gigantic monsters, unfathomable powers and also a critial view on humanity and what it means to be human. I will definitely try to stay away from any tropes that are not neccesary to write fantasy, as I thoroughly despise non-creativity. There shall be no harems, no unrealistic behavior and absolutely no standard scene of dimwitted bandits that try to rob whatever similarly rock-brained princess they encounter. The main character is not black and white, because no human is completely good or completely evil. They’re human, not some idealistic concept of what one is supposed to be. Enjoy!Warning: Tagged 17+ for the occasional strong language and violence, some mild sexual content can occur in the distant future.
