"I can't believe it! Homework on the first day!" Averman exclaimed.
"Yea we gotta be careful we might learn something here." Russ jokes.
"Let's just go to practice. Don't want to be late for our new coach." Adam says.
"Of course you'd say that banks." Charlie says.
"What's that suppose to mean?"
"Nothing. Nothing at all." Charlie shakes his head.
We all headed down to the locker room and we changed into our pads and grabbed our gear. Charlie lead us to the rink and we looked around.
"Woah that sure is a lot of championships." Guy admires.
"This place is huge. I bet they have a snack bar." Goldberg says.
"Look at the Varsity they're huge." Ken says.
"Come on guys. They aren't so big. We can skate out there." Charlie assures us.
"Yea guys." Connie and I agree.
"Well isn't it captain ducky." The Varsity captain Reilly says skating up to us.
"Back off." Fulton says.
"Ohh the bash brother. So scared. Heard the other one was to scared to leave home." Their enforcer Cole says.
"Portman ain't scared of nothing." Fulton fires back.
"Let's go team!" The Varsity coach yells. "Hit the showers now."
With that the Varsity leaves the ice and we hop on.
"Dwayne, rope up some stray cattle." Charlie says handing Dwayne a rope.
"Shouldn't we wait for the new coach before we start?" Connie asks.
"It's duck practice he's gonna have to get used to it." Connie smiles and nods. "Now how about it cowboy.
"Yee-Haw!"
We started skating away from Dwayne. The first one to go was Fulton. Aww feels like the good old days. Having fun with the ducks on the ice.

I guess I was to busy day dreaming because all of a sudden there was a rope around me.
"Gotcha Kendra." Dwayne says.
"Aw come on Kenny out so soon." Adam jokes.
"I'd watch out Banks." I point behind. He turns and gets roped by Dwayne.
"Sorry Adam." Dwayne says shrugging.
"You were saying Banksie."
We got back to skating and having fun when Dwayne filed Charlie and he fell, right in front of a guy which I assume is our new coach.
"I'm coach Orion. You can call me coach or coach Orion." His voice Noam's through the rink.
Charlie stands and hold out his hand. "You can call me Charlie." He looks back at us and some of us laugh.
"That's what that c must stand for on your jersey. Sure doesn't stand for captain."
"Sorry coach were just messing with you." Russ says.
"Yea Bombay Gabe him that C." Goldberg says and we all nod along.
"And I respect that. But I'm the coach now and I'll be choosing the captain."
"You gotta be kidding. Your the rookie here. We've all been together for 4 years." Charlie points to us.
"Alright Conway, laps."
"How many Coach Orion." Looking irritated.
Charlie calm down. I thought. He's getting mad and that's not a great first impression.
"I don't recall saying."
Charlie takes the rope off and starts to skate. When he goes around coach he looks at me and rolls his eyes. I give him one of my many looks.
He rolls his eyes and continues skating.
"Now count off for a ladder."
We start to count but now we are in a sad mood. We meekly announce our numbers.
Later we start shooting against Goldberg. Adam goes first and of course he makes it because he is the best on our team.

"You got nothing on me Adam."
Connie goes next and makes it.
"Nice shot."
Next is Averman and he scores.
"Have you been practicing Averman."
"Goldberg!" Coach yells.
"Yes coach."
"Have you been practicing?"
"Not per say. We either play or play around."
Coach just looks at him and then he looks at Julie.
"Nice try Dwayne."
"Maybe next time Connie."
I'm next and I skate in and shoot.
"Not this time Kenny." Julie says catching the puck in her glove.
Practice is over and we head to the locker room.
"Some one burry me right here." Goldberg says laying down on the bench.
"Starts with a W!" Charlie starts. "Wussies Wussies on offense and Defense Defense Defense!" Charlie and a couple other people finish.
The immediately stop when coach barges into the locker room.
"You have 15 minutes to get out of the locker room after every practice." He starts walking to the other end of the locker room. "Eden Hall says athletes should maintain a C average in order to compete." Some people groan. "But I don't like that rule."
"Yea coach." Averman says. While Goldberg nods and smiles.
"I don't want any C players on my team either Bs or better."
Goldberg's face drops and a lot of us groan.
"One last thing stay clear of the Varsity until we play them in the JV Varsity show down."
He slams the door as he leaves.
"15 minutes? Man I can not move." Russ says.
"Hey look he posted or positions." Connie says pointing.
"I can't believe it I play left not right." Fulton says irritated.
"Third line man that's a major diss." Russ says.
Adams looking and I walk up to look at my position.
"I'm not even posted." Adam says confused.
"Yea you are." Connie says pointing.
"First line center, Varsity." I read off the paper.
I look at Adam and he looks at me.
"I made Varsity?" He asks confused. He looks confused to. He walks away.
I look at the paper and see I've taken Adams spot. First line center.
Man I knew Adam was good but I can't believe Orion would split us up. He was the brains of the team. Coach just can't do that.
"Who's captain Tibid?" Dwayne asks.
"No that's T B D, to be determined." Guy explains.
"Oh I understand. No I don't. That's your job Charlie."
We all look at Charlie and he looks down with a mix of sadness and anger.
