《Octavius (WATTYS 2016)》thirteen | auntie

Once the whole pack came back to the town, Octavius called an emergency meeting of the leaders of the pack. I was invited to attend, but I just flipped him off and went back to my wing with Klaude. We're sitting on the living room couch, pretending to watch The Simpsons. I am staring into space, toying with a loose string on my t shirt.
"What are you thinking about?" Klaude asked, and I crane my neck to look at him.
"I saw my Aunt at the ceremony. I realized it's the first time I've seen the people in my pack since the day we came here. I miss them." My voice is airy and full of mourning. "I feel like I've lost them."
"You haven't lost them, Ale." He reassured me, patting my head lightly. I scowl at him and playfully swat at his hand. "I'm serious! You still love them, right?"
I nod.
"And they still love you?" I pause.
"Honestly, I don't know. Most of them wouldn't look at me during the ceremony, maybe they blame me some how. I just wish I could see them, and talk to them, and be like we used to be."
We're silent for a few moments.
"Maybe you can." Klaude says, and I sit up.
"What are you thinking?" I ask, sitting on my heels.
"Well, Moonrise pack is living in the housing section of the mansion. I know where that is and I could take you, but we'd have to be back before Octavius gets here."
I squeal and hug Klaude quickly, jumping up to my feet.
"Let's go!" I practically drag him out of the wing.
It takes a long time to get to the housing section, almost fifteen minutes, but that included dodging guards in the main section of the house. When we arrive, I see a large square room, with apartments lining the walls, the room as large as a football field.

"Whoa." I whisper, amazing by the sheer size of the room.
"I know." Klaude grins, and walks towards a large black board, with slots filled with names and numbers.
"Who are you looking for?" He asks, scanning the board.
"May Reynolds." I say quickly, bouncing on the balls of my feet, so excited to see Aunt May.
"Um..." He slides his finger along the names finally landing on one. "May Reynolds, 13B." I follow closely behind him as he leads me to the door, 13B.
I knock quickly on the door, my heart pounding.
It opens to reveal, Lacy. She squeals when she sees me and runs into my arms, nearly knocking me down.
"Ale!" She squeaks, and I hug her close my chest, and tears form in my eyes to see my favorite little girl again.
"May!" She calls, "Come quick!" Aunt May appears a few seconds later, her eyes still puffy. She freezes when she sees me, and I hold my breath, waiting for her reaction.
She says nothing, she just pulls me to her, hugging me close. She smells like spices and herbs, the usual aroma of a dedicated chef, of my favorite person.
"Oh, my dear Alessandra." She is crying again, and smiles through her tears. I smile down at her, and now tears pour down my eyes too, as she welcomes Klaude and I into her apartment. I walk into a tiny room, with just an old sofa and a tiny tv, and I see two doors, no doubt leading to bedrooms. To the right is a tiny box of a kitchen.
"Come please, sit down, dear." She beckons me over to the sofa, and runs to the kitchen to pour me a glass of tea. She hands it to me, and then stares at Klaude, suspiciously.

"It's okay, Auntie, he's a friend." She smiles at him, and motions for him to sit next to me on the lumpy sofa.
"How are you?" She asks, sitting down on a small wooden chair she pulled over.
"I'm-" I pause. What can I say to a woman whose sons were almost executed, because of my mate? "I'm as a good as can be expected. But what about you, Auntie?" I change the subject quickly.
She sighs, and looks down at the tea in her hands. "I am proud of my sons." She says, and she raises her chin defiantly. "They are brave and strong, and I know they will take care of each other."
"Of course they will." I comfort her, placing my hand over her's.
I here a shuffle and see Lacy come towards me, and I set my tea down on the table, and hold her on my lap.
"Where's Charlie, Lace?" I ask, fixing her mess of red hair.
"He's sick." She sniffs slightly, her usually pale little nose a bit red. "He's got some kinda cold." I smile, and hug her close.
"They came around all the apartments." My Aunt says. "They were interrogating everyone, asking if they'd known anything about the boys." She sighs.
"What happened?" I ask softly.
"They came, and they accused me of helping them escape, but I said I couldn't have, I hadn't seen them since the raid. I guess they believed me and left."
I am silent for a moment, praying that she is correct.
"But enough about my troubles," She waves a hand, as if casting the problems away. "You must tell me everything."
And I do. I tell her about meeting Octavius, and how he had been sweet, but how he hadn't stopped the execution. I talk for what seems like hours, and I only stop when Klaude says we have to leave, the Octavius had mind-linked saying he was on his way back.
"Take care, Auntie. I love you." I say, hugging her and kissing her cheek.
"I love you too, Alessandra. Be strong." I smile quickly, not wanting to cry in front of her again, and I pick Lacy up, kissing her head.
"Take good care of Auntie, Lace. I'm counting on you." She giggles and hugs me close, and I put her down, leaving them behind me as Klaude and I rush back to the wing.
We reach the door, which is surprisingly unlocked, and enter the foyer.
"Where the hell have you been?" I freeze, and look up to see a very very cross Octavius.
