Chapter Twelve ▪︎
** the world is different in my story. The stuff that we consider modern and normal are vintage in the story. The moder stuff is what we think of being vintage. Basically, the technology is still there, the twist is that the vampires kept some hidden for certain reasons that will be explained.
If you haven't read that ^ you won't be able to understand the story.**

I was exiting my house when I found a wrapped box and another letter on top of it.
I wonder who it's from, I rolled my eyes.
I bent my knees and crouched down to pick up the golden giftbox. The letter had an 'AT' wax stamp on it to make sure no one reads it, except for the person that is supposed to.
I opened it and it read:
'The formalities are boring to me, so you won't be seeing the classical letters from me anymore. I feel like 'Dear Dahlia' is an understatement so it's also quite useless. I hope you like the gift. If you don't understand how to use it, there is a manual under the gift.
P.S. I'm happy you've lost your job. I'll be paying your loans so you don't have to work any other job. Please don't be stubborn about this, you know you don't have much more time alone, so I suggest you to use it carefully. Not on work.

What gift is the jackass talking about?
Maybe it's a sex toy. Or lingerie.
Oooh, or chocolate!
I for sure don't need a manual to know how to use those.
I sat on the porch and untied the ribbon. I lifted the lid up and to my surprise, a cube shaped technology piece was looking at me. It had a lense, like one of those cameras I've seen vampire people use, but it was completely differently shaped. It was a pale purple colour. I lifted it up and took the manual in my hands before putting it down and admiring the technology.

It says 'instax' on them. I turned it around and on the back, it said polaroid. They were the most expensive vintage thing I've ever seen.
And I have it.
What do I do with it?
How do I use this?
Let's press some buttons, I guess.
I started pressing random buttons and once I pressed a certain button I got blinded by a flash and a thick paper came out from the inside of the instax.
Is this a camera?
I took the paper out from the camera and to my surprise, it was pitch black. Maybe it's broken. I looked at it carefully and noticed that it started changing.
Slowly, it developed into a photo of my face when I was shocked by the bright flash. I laughed at the photo and how ridiculous I looked.
I like this.

After I discovered how to use the little polaroid, I went out into the woods and started to take photos of the nature. I knew where I was going, until I saw a beautiful butterfly and followed it like all the stupid people did in books.
I took a photo of it, but got lost in the process.
Whoopsies.
I calmly walked to the opposite way that I was facing, hoping that I will be going back into town.

I, of course, didn't get back. If anything, I got even more lost. I have came to a part of the forest I've never seen and found a waterfall that had fairies floating above the water. They looked like strange lights and sparkles.
I quickly took a photo of them and put the photo in my back pocket, along with all other photos I took today.
I walked closer to the waterfall and heard a beautiful melody. Someone from the lake that was underneath the waterwall was calling me. The tune they were singing was so hypnotic, it llured me in without a problem.

I was pulled back from my daydream and fell into a pair of thick arms. The person had tan skin and curly hairs grew on his arms. I was shocked for a moment, but then I looked up with wide eyes and saw steely eyes staring down at me. He had side cut and slightly long hair that curled at the ends.
"Don't do that." He spoke as he looked at my eyes, from one eye to another.
"Do what?" I pulled away from him, but he held me tightly. "Let go of me."
"You owe me a favour. I just saved your life from those sirens. " His eyes sparkled mischeviously.
"What do you want?" I asked him with defiance and power in my stance, just like how my father taught me.
"You."
I looked at his eyes that turned silver and captured me in their beauty. The picture turned into that of a full moon that lulled me to sleep with the peaceful hum of the lake and the fairies' flutters of wings.

Ten Thousand Sallys
Imagine waking up in a hospital room, you can barely move. No one comes when you call. The only other person present is a little boy, who is, surprisingly, more help than you would expect. What would you do? This is the exact situation Sally finds herself in. Almost immediately she discovers that nothing is what she thinks it is. Not the boy, not the hospital, maybe not even herself. She is in deep trouble and the consequences will be dire if she can’t find a way out. She is a fighter, though, and just doesn't quit. As a baseline human, she starts as the lowest of the low and has to claw her way up in spite of being tangled in a shifting web of schemes and plots. She has to do her best, and maybe her best is pretty good. As Sally uncovers more about her situation, she finds that she has to be smart and tough and that in this place she needs to depend on her friends, who are using her as much as she is using them. This book contains themes concerning life, death, and body functions, light swearing, minimal nakedness, and should be suitable for most. Some pertinent info: Ten Thousand Sallys is a complete novel of approximately 140 pages in 20 chapters. Around 80,000 words. not too long, and maybe too short. Give it a read and let me know your opinion.
