《Birds of a Feather》Hail

After bidding goodbye to their friends, Newt and Tina boarded the ship that would take them to New York. It was a spontaneous action and since the Minister decided it would be good for a briefing with the President of the Magical Congress, he allowed them.
"It's a pity Queenie and Jacob couldn't come" Newt said, as the duo wandered around looking for their suite.
"Yeah, you know the deal with Queenie" Tina shrugged, "And Jacob would want to stay with her".
"It's been a while we took a break, right?" Newt slipped his hands into his pocket, "All we've been doing is tracking Grindelwald".
"Well I can't use a break. There are still millions of things left to do" Tina said, "We need to protect Dumbledore. Get Harold and Charles from Castelobruxo for extra support, gather an army".
"It's never over" Newt said.
"Exactly. So I can never use a break" Tina smiled, "But I need to go on this trip to talk to Madam President and cool things down with Achilles".
They finally found their suite in a little corner, squashed between two other suites. Several people wearing dark cloaks roamed around. A few waiters went around to take orders.
"Let's drop our stuff and explore the ship" Tina decided.
"Or we could just stay in and read a book" Newt said.
They opened their door to find a large room, with two beds and ample amount of pillows on each bed. There was a small circular window for them to watch the sea and a kitchen counter.
There was also a few newspapers bundled up near the bedside table.
"Look, there's a radio!" Tina pointed to a small wooden box with a dial, with an antenna.
"Isn't this what Muggles use?" Newt asked, bewildered.
"Haven't you opted for Muggle Studies in Hogwarts?" Tina asked.
"Nope. I was expelled before I could learn anything in that class" Newt shrugged, "The professor never explained how things work".
"In Illvermorny we had it mandatory. We need to learn how to blend in with the Muggles, right?" Tina said, "Alright, let me just crank it up".
Tina chose a few different channels, until a song played. She increased the volume a tad bit to let the music echo in the room.

"What's this song?" Newt asked, "I haven't heard of any popular bands lately. Just the Weird Sisters".
". . .I am dreaming Dear of you, day by day
Dreaming when the skies are blue, when they're gray;
When the silvery moonlight gleams, still I wander on in dreams,
In a land of love, it seems, just with you. . . "
"Why is this so sappy?" Tina grumbled as she switched to several other channels, but none of them seemed to work. She switched back to the song, desperate for entertainment.
". . Let me call you "Sweetheart," I'm in love with you.
Let me hear you whisper that you love me too.
Keep the love-light glowing in your eyes so true.
Let me call you "Sweetheart," I'm in love with you. . ."
"I think it's pretty sweet" Newt sat down on his bed, "Whoever composed this must've truly loved someone".
"Yeah, I guess it is kind of sweet" Tina agreed, "Anyway, why don't I get some food for us?".
"I'll help!" Newt brightened up.
"No, it's fine. You stay here and I'll get us something to eat" Tina got up and crossed the room, "I'll be back".
Newt sighed as he listened to the song, lying in bed. It was beautiful and had a good rhythmic pace.
". . . Longing for you all the while, more and more
Longing for the sunny smile, I adore
Birds are singing far and near, roses blooming everywhere
You, alone, my heart can cheer; you, just you. . . "
It made Newt realize how much he loved Tina. She basically brightens his day, by simply existing.
Why did he fall in love with an Auror? Why did he ignore all of his adoring fans to find Tina?
There are some questions for which the answers are right in front of us, but we never tend to look at them close enough.
Newt finds her simply herself. She's not fake and perfectly genuine. She speaks her mind and she doesn't play by the rules. Best of all, she's Tina.
The song ended and Newt turned the radio off. The song brought memories of when Tina slammed him against a wall and demanded an explanation. The time when she was too scared to trust him.

The time when she pacified Credence. The time when they arrested Grindelwald together. The time when they bid a tearful goodbye.
Newt clearly remembered the vivid picture of Tina's pleasant facial features as he wrote to her, twice a week.
And she always wrote back.
The little misunderstanding with the magazine threw them into two different tracks, only to see them converge back into one path.
Then, probably the best moment of his life followed shortly.
To be honest, Newt would agree to the fact that all of his best memories apart from his time at Hogwarts were created because of her.
"Hey!" Tina burst into the room, carrying a tray of food, "A little help?".
"Sure" Newt helped her set down the tray.
There were cookies, pasties, baked treats, a loaf of bread, marmalade, a jar of milk, some butter and two apples.
"That's a lot of food." Newt gasped.
"What? We're hungry" Tina simply shrugged, "Come on".
They munched on some food, keeping away the cookie vs biscuit fight away as possible.
"Y'know, Tina, I realized something important" Newt said, dusting off the crumbs.
"And what is your realization all about?" Tina raised an eyebrow.
Newt leaned forward and planted a kiss on her lips. He quickly retracted away.
"Newt, you got crumbs all over my face!" Tina dusted off the crumbs, "This was your realization?".
"I love you so much" Newt breathed, this time consulting his mind for the talking.
"I love you too, but what the heck?" Tina cursed silently, "To be honest, I haven't been able to reciprocate my feelings and let down my emotions. I have always been terrible with that".
"You're not bad" Newt responded, "compared to me".
There was an awkward pause as both of them sat, just recalling what had happened for the past few minutes.
"You want to go find something to read apart from these boring newspapers?" Newt piped up, "I saw a library on the way here".
"You know me so well" Tina smiled, offering her hand, "Let's go, then".
"Hey, you must be Maddie, right?" a young boy knocked on Modesty's door, "Miss Tibber told me to come to you if I need any help".
"It's Modesty" she gritted her teeth. She turned sharply to look at the strange visitor, "Oh, who are you? I haven't seen you"
"I'm new, so I kind of need several people to help me around" the boy said, "I think you're the only person who maintains decorum here, or so Miss Tibber tells me".
"Huh? Oh thanks" Modesty smiled awkwardly, "You can never rely on any of the children here. Jake is pretty awful".
"It's my first day here" the boy extended his hand, "I'm Michael Robins. Call me Mike".
Modesty was surprised at the boy's confidence, "I'm Modesty Barebone".
"So how did you end up in this prison?" Modesty continued.
"Oh, well, Mom and Dad passed in an accident" he said, ever so casually, "And, well, there ain't any relatives around".
"So how did you fill the paperwork? You need a legal guardian or someone to fill it in" Modesty asked.
"I just called a social services worker and she helped me sort it out" Mike said, "It isn't that of a deal. I mean, you kind of expect it from a twelve year old".
"You're twelve?" Modesty was slight taken aback, "I'm eleven, though".
"Well, I have to get to my room and move in, right?" Mike got up, "It was fantastic meeting you, Modesty".
"Glad you used my name right" Modesty grinned, "Just so you know, the food here is gross. You might want to rely on sugar and fruits to keep up".
"Thanks. I'm sure I can manage" Mike gave her a warm smile before excusing to go.
It was time. Modesty had to sneak out today, to meet up with Hicks to get to the school. And without anyone's interference.
She looked outside the window as the snow poured in. Kids were playing in the snow, sculpting snowmen like they were Michaelangelo's great great great great great great grandchildren.
Maybe she'll make those kind of memories, in the snow at her new school.

To Blunt The Sharpest Claw
The Velvet Paw of Asquith Novels are a series of New Fable genre novels that involve cats and dogs and high adventure and romance and espionage and food-fights and hotels and explosions and car chases. With large casts, exotic locations and an absurdity only possible in the absence of human characters, the Velvet Paw of Asquith Novels blend Wind in the Willows with James Bond, though with more cafes and fewer badgers. This submission is the third title in its Morigan Trilogy, beginning two-thirds of the way through the series' longest adventure yet. Here's a quick recount of what's happened so far: When Oscar Teabag-Dooven, a Velvet Paw of Asquith, is ordered to investigate how a mysterious poet, the Ar'dath-Irr, is able to travel instantaneously around the world, two very bad things happen. Firstly, he meets Lydia, an insane librarian who punches everyone in the face, and secondly, the Ar'dath-Irr reveals he is intent on taking over the world. Although this second thing might be considered worse than the first, Oscar feels differently following Lydia’s destruction of a cafe, a library and his face in one afternoon. In comparison, thwarting world domination just seems easier. Along with Binklemitre, a fellow Velvet Paw of Asquith, and Lydia, Oscar infiltrates the Ar’dath-Irr’s realm of dark poetry to discover the dog not only intends wrenching the world apart but has no intention of cleaning up afterwards. As a result, Oscar decides it’s all too hard and goes home to have a bath. After lots of arguing and the sort of food fight that posh restaurants were invented for, Lydia and Binklemitre convince him that they must stop the Ar’dath-Irr for several reasons, one of them quite serious. A vibrant cast of characters collide as Oscar, Lydia and Binklemitre battle the Ar’dath-Irr and his disciples in an adventure involving exploding cafés and appalling hotels, car chases and inadvertent surgery, dreadful poetry, lots of arguments and at least one temper-tantrum, all of which draw the three into dark and convoluted corners of a world they weren’t aware existed. Moreover, any chance of sitting down and discussing things over some buns disappears when Lydia punches the Ar’dath-Irr in the face. This results in her having a psychotic episode and Oscar getting run over by an ambulance. Although Binklemitre suffers neither, he witnesses both, which is almost as dreadful, though not nearly so messy. An enormous battle ensues, followed by a dinner party and then everything explodes.
