《Silver》Epilogue

Silver's POV
It's been three years since Ethan, the kids and I moved to Accord, New York. It was a cute little town, with a very accepting community of neighbors. Although Ethan didn't agree at first, we downsized the house a little. The house looked like a modern-day cottage that had two stories. There were enough rooms for all the kids to have their own room, Ethan and I to share one, and a small handful of guest bedrooms. It was an adjustment for Ethan and the kids but so far, I think, they have all loved our time here. I know I have.
Our lives have been eventless, in a good way, since the kidnapping. After we moved Marco had told us that Giovanni, the mastermind behind the whole charade, had been taken care of and wouldn't have to be worried about again. I didn't know what that exactly meant but I didn't care either. All I knew was that my family was safe and we could finally start our lives together. The right way.
Jasmine and Rhys had quickly accepted our family as theirs. They now believe we are truly a family no matter how we came to be. I couldn't express my happiness when they started to call Ethan and I their parents on a continuous basis. The only thing I could compare it to was when I gave birth to me and Ethan's second child together.
Kasper Eilaz Winthrope was born shortly after everyone was finally settled into the house. He came almost two months early and the doctors didn't know if he was going to make it. Thankfully, he is now almost two and he is as healthy as can be. His survival after the first couple of weeks was somewhat of a surprise to the doctors. Especially when he didn't have any major health defects that premature babies normally have.

As soon as Kasper's health was in the clear it was like a crushing weight had been removed from my chest. That day was one of our families happiest moments that first year of being here.
"Mommy!" Aiddan yelled from the living room as I hustled around the kitchen cooking, lost in my thoughts.
"What is it honey?" I call as I finish straining the pasta for dinner.
"Uncle Ashton and Marco are here." He replied as I heard him and Kasper giggling at the movie they were watching.
Walking towards the door I open it and greet my brother and his boyfriend. Yes, Ashton and Marco had made their relationship official. It was sometime last year when they had admitted it to the family. But we all already knew about it. They could barely stay away from each other. I think they were just in denial. But Ashton had been the first to give in.
That was around the same time we found out that Aiddan's cancer had been as cured as we could tell. The doctors said there was still the possibility of remission but it looked good for him. I think that was what sparked Ashton to finally express his feelings. Because he saw his own nephew shake hands with death. He realised that life was fleeting and he needed to stop stalling his happiness. And I am so glad that he finally stopped fearing our parents' failed marriage and decided to give love a try.
"Hello, you two." I greet as I take the desert from their hands and gestured for them to follow me.
"So where is the graduate?" Marco demanded, smiling in pride as he said that. Too think an uncle would look more proud of my son's accomplishments than me.

"Ethan took him to get his present. They should be back any minute" I explained as I put the dish on the table and went back to preparing the pasta, Rhys favorite.
"I can't believe that Rhys is finally an adult. It seems just yesterday he had saved me and became my son." I mutter in reminiscence, a small smile appearing on my face.
"You know what I can't believe?" Ashton asked, shaking his head as if in doubt. "I cannot fathom how that boy could possibly have worked that hard to finish his schooling on the proper date. He was so far behind but his determination really set him farther than anyone else I've ever seen."
He was right. Rhys had been so far behind in schooling that the school wanted him to start where he left off instead of putting him in his correct year. But he proved that he could handle being in high school and even proved that no matter what his past had been, he wasn't going to let it hinder his future. And I couldn't be more proud of him if I tried. Both him and his sister are magnificent children.
Shortly after everyone came back we had dinner. Marco and Ashton decided to stay the night because it was too late to drive all the way back to New York, where they still lived. Ethan was putting Aidden to sleep while I took Kasper. I sat beside his bed as he was fast asleep and I kissed his forehead before pulling his blanket around him gently.
Giving him one last look I felt Ethan's arms circle me, pulling me against him. His breath fanned my ear as he laid his cheek on my hair. "Thank you for giving me this family Silver."
"No," I whisper, turning in his arms as I wrapped my own against his waist. With my face pressed tightly against his chest I say, "Thank you for believing in this family."

Edge Cases (Book 1 Complete!)
Rare classes and powerful skills are helpful. Too bad the system doesn't seem built to handle them. What even are all these errors? Our team of outcasts and adventurers will have to rely on their trust - and the bane of all stories, healthy communication - just to survive, let alone understand what the system is doing. Because they're quickly realizing that it's doing something; to people, to monsters, and maybe even to the gods themselves. And their goal isn't just to survive; it's to make things better. It's a good thing they're not doing it alone. --- Edge Cases is an attempt to take the LitRPG genre and the overpowered MCs trope and write a story where numbers aren't everything. Sometimes it takes trust, support, and just a touch of being very, very clever. Expect a mix of action, slice-of-life, friendship, and ominous worldbuilding. Updates M-W-F at 6pm EST. Cover art by Alovck of Artstation, and typesetting by jessessey right here on RoyalRoad.

Up In Space
New chapter every other day Iain Compton never planned to be abducted by an alien spaceship. It just… happened. And now he’s been awakened 22,000 years in the future and half a galaxy away by a pair of oddly human seeming beak nosed aliens and a space ship A.I. that seems to have more than a few screws loose. Oh, and then there's this gorgeous alien woman who he probably shouldn’t trust at all. His plan is to find a way home to Earth, even if its unlikely to be remotely the same; to find a better class of companions among an often strange and inexplicable galactic community, at least one who won’t use him or sell him out at the first opportunity; and to do something about the parasites in his brain who are supposed to connect him to a library the size of the galaxy, but seem to only be telling him that almost everyone and everything he comes across wants to kill him. But at least he can still send tweets.

Blind Wastelands
[Royal Writathon April 2022 winner] (Support me on Patreon ) They say it was a war that blocked out the sun. They say it was poison bombs that reduced the land to rubble. The blind wastelands were what it was called now. Where there were once sprawling cities, farmlands, and crops that grew in the sun, sparkling waters that shone like diamonds, there was now darkness; a cloying, viscous darkness that filled men’s hearts with dread and sunk their bellies like stone. What remained of humanity scattered away from the darkness as much as they could, banding together in settlements lit with gas lamps and bonfires. A young man named Yunkef leaves his home at Settlement 41 to join a Scavenger team to bring back much-needed resources for his Settlement but finds there are much worse things in the darkness than just the beasts. He meets Lady Black.
