《More Than You Realize》Chapter 36: Mournful Return

Tyler's hand twitched in mine after witnessing what just happened. The tense atmosphere, which I didn't even know it was there, died down a little bit. I could only hear more of the building fall and smolder. I only moved when I felt someone grab my shoulder and begin pulling me away.

"No! Rainbow Steve!" I yelled while looking at the heap of rubble through my tear filled eyes.

"We have to go, Jake! H-he's g-gone..." I heard Mary smoke out through her tears. I gave her an expression of shock, and then looked back to the rubble where Rainbow Steve once stood.

I shook my head, but began to run out of the burning building, Tyler's hand still in mine. I heard the crackling of wood breaking from above. I looked up to see some of the roof begin to collapse on us. I jumped out the door, taking Tyler with me.

I could hear my breathing as I recovered from he shock of the building collapsing. I had let go of Ty's hand so it wouldn't be weird. Both of us were breathing heavily.

Void Steve exclaimed as he rushed to my aid. I could only manage a soft smile as he sat me up some.

"Y-yeah..." I mumbled. A frown formed on my face afterwards, though. "B-but Rainbow Steve is..."

Void Steve commented. I shook my head.

"But I could've done better! I couldn't used my magic to hold up the rubble until he got out. I could've-" I was cut off my yelling.

"BUT HE SACRIFICED HIMSELF TO SAVE YOU TWO!" Alex yelled. We all looked over to the angry hybrid. "STOP SAYING THERE WAS SOMETHING YOU COULD'VE DONE!"

Alex's breathing was heavy. His chest rose up and down quickly, making his body move just as quick as his breathing. He took a deep sigh of breath.

"There is always something we could do better; especially when saving someone. Rainbow Steve did the best he could to save you two. We just need to be grateful. That's what he would want," Alex said as he looked down to the ground. I felt some rage boil inside of me and the sudden realization at who was at fault here.

"This is all YOUR FAULT, TYLER!" I yelled walking over to his now standing figure. He began to back away from my approaching figure.

"I-I know. I'm really sorry... p-please! D-Don't hurt me!" he stuttered as he continued to back away. I let out a growl.

"JAKE! STOP IT!" Kylie yelled as she pulled me back. I looked at her in shock. "You're the one who tried to save him. You're the one who said you could fix things with him. Just calm down. Sabre wouldn't want you to be like this, now would he?"

I looked down to the ground, admitting to myself that he was right. I looked over to the trembling Tyler. He looked terrified for his life. I let out a reluctant sigh.

"Fine... but don't think I'm doing this happily, Ty," I said. Ty let a smile dance across his face.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Tyler repeated over and over again. I flinched when the demonic tone in his voice dropped.

"Did... your demonic voice just leave?" Galaxy Steve asked in shock. Tyler flinched when he asked that.

"I-I don't... OH MY GOSH! IT DID!" Tyler exclaimed. A grabbed his throat and began to rub against the front of his neck. His smile got wider. "I... I feel... lighter. I feel more pure."

"The evil is basically gone?" I asked in disbelief. Ty nodded his head rapidly.

"YES! YES!" he exclaimed happily.

"I find it somewhat hard to believe," I grumbled loudly. Everyone heard it plain as day.

Void Steve smirked. I flinched again. My cheeks began to burn with embarrassment.

"I was a different situation!" I protected.

"Different how?" Mary asked with an "Are you an idiot" expression.

"You see... I-uh... well... IT WAS JUST DIFFERENT FOR ME!" I yelled before crossing my arms in anger.

"Jake..." Alex warned. I ignored him... to a degree. I stayed quiet, but I just pretended I was done with their attitudes. The silence didn't last long. I let out a sigh as I glanced back over to Ty.

"Alright. Tyler can join us," I said. I was just thinking about what Sabre would've said to him. I saw Ty's smile grow bigger than before. He engulfed me in a hug. It felt weird. The guy who, not too long ago, was controlling me, was now hugging me from the joy of being able to stay with us. "Just know, one wrong move, and I'll make sure you are long gone."

"Completely understandable," he said. I couldn't help but smile a little bit as I pushed him away.

Void Steve asked. We all fell silent; even more than we were before. We all glanced between one another, hoping someone knew the answer.

"My only guess would be is that Spencer took Sabre to his place. I think he's working for a high power," Ty suggested.

"Is there ever going to be a villain that is the higher power?" Galaxy Steve asked.

Void Steve mumbled. Galaxy Steve glared at his other half.

"I meant as of now, with the whole "Sabre is a powerful human being." Obviously you worked by yourself. No one would ever want you as a minion," he joked while looking the other way. Void Steve growled.

he yelled angrily. Galaxy Steve began to run away, and Void Steve chased after him.

"Hey! We don't have time to mess around, guys. We need to find Sabre, and quick. Ty, do you know where Spency's little hideout is?" Alex asked. Ty placed his head in his hand; he looked like he was thinking about the question.

"Not really. I mean, he wouldn't even tell me his name. He didn't say anything about where his little hideout would be," Ty said sadly.

"This would be easier with Rainbow Steve here. Sabre hasn't formed a strong telepathic link between any of us since he always did with Rainbow Steve," I mentioned. Everyone fell silent, but Void Steve gave me a weird look.

Void Steve asked.

"You all were at a close distance. We have no clue where he is. Yes, I figured out a lot about his powers when I had them. He communicated with Rainbow Steve so much that he formed a strong link. It became easier to communicate. If he tried to communicate with one of us, it wood be extremely painful for both you and him," I explained.

"So we have no way to reach Sabre, at all!" Galaxy Steve exclaimed. I nodded my head calmly. He began to hyperventilate. None of us really knew what to do with him now.

"G-Galaxy... Galaxy..." I kept trying to say. His hyperventilating prevented any of us from talking to him. We couldn't hear us over himself. "GALAXY STEVE!"

He calmed down a little bit after I yelled at him.

"Everything will be okay. It's all been okay before. Just calm down," Mary said as she patted his shoulder.

"O-okay..." he mumbled as his breathing began to go back to normal. The next thing I knew, Galaxy Steve was on the ground passed out.

I glared at Spency once he was finally leaving the room. My body stung all over. I looked down to my body. I winced in pain.

Blood stained the majority of my onesie. Some skin was exposed, showing the cuts in my skin. I felt so weak.

"You don't seem happy?" a voice taunted. I looked over to the taunting voice. The new guy... Krill, I think? A smirk was plastered on his face. His hair was black and faded into a light grey at the end. His eyes made him seem possessed. He had white pupils and the part around it was pure black. He had normal clothes, but they were just all black and gray. I was just wondering why he had bandages around his hands.

"You're Krill, right?" I asked slowly. He let out a laugh.

"Ah, I see you catch names quickly. That's good," he said walking closer to me. I pulled against the chains, but I was in too much pain to do anything. "Don't try, Sabre. These chains make your powers useless. Unless you want to be stripped of your energy, you might wanna just accept whatever happens."

"You sound like a pain in the butt," I commented with a slight smirk. I wasn't smirking because it was a good remark or anything like that. I just wanted to anger him, and I could see the anger as I spoke. His hand latched around my neck, cutting off my airways.

"I can be a pain, but you have to give me a reason to be a pain," he said tightening his grip on me.

"Th-then what d-did I-I d-do?" I choked out.

"I found Spencer a broken mess after you first betrayed him. Silence was merely a co-worker, posing as the boss. I bonded with Spencer, and I helped him realize how bad you truly were. Years went by after he made you take those trails, and his anger towards you grew. We watched as you tried to help the Steve's. We both thought the same thing," he said keeping his hand around my throat the whole time.

"Wh-what?" I choked just before he took his hand away. I took in a deep breath of air. My lungs burned as new air filled them.

"We thought about the little charade your putting on for these people," he said with a smirk. I looked up to him, genuinely confused. "Come on, Sabre. You've spent your whole life as an assassin. Why would there be a sudden change?"

I felt time stop around me as those words came out of his mouth. I felt something sharp pierce my heart. I looked down to the ground, my eyes moving back and forth.

'Is he right? Can I actually change after what I've done? I was an assassin my whole life... how do I know I'm just filling myself. Maybe something inside me is secretly planning on eliminating my friends... NO! I've always had a reason do kill who I did. They've done nothing to me!' I thought while shaking my head with my eyes closed shut.

"No! Sh-shut up!" I yelled glaring at Krill. He just let his smirk grow wider.

"Come on, Sabre. Yes, you had reasons for killing who you did, but you were still an assassin. You still had a joy of killing them, didn't you? How do you know you won't turn and kill your so-called friends. It bothers you now, doesn't it?" he asked getting closer to my face.

"Anyone can change. You can't change my mind!" I exclaimed. He laughed and backed away from me.

"Sabre... no one can truly change their ways. No matter how you view yourself now, deep inside, you're still an assassin. Void Steve is still that evil Steve that wants to destroy you, but he's grown attached to you. He only wants to destroy us now, but still destroy. Jake's magic is corrupted. You will never know what will happen if he loses his sanity again. Kylie is still struggling to learn the ways of good. She's been told to do wrong most of her life," Krill said as he made his way towards the door. He looked back to me once again as the door opened. "And you are still an assassin, and assassins kill."

He left the room and locked the door so I wouldn't get out if I would happen to escape. I tried to push his words out of me, but they kept circling in my mind. I sighed.

"He's right... I can't... I can't change..." I mumbled slumping against the restraints. Even though my onesie was white, I could see the brightness drain into a shade of gray.
