《More Than You Realize》Chapter 38: Putting The Past Behind Us

It didn't take long for the swords of Tyler and Spencer to begin clashing together. Metal hit metal. Sparks flew in the air, but disappeared before any harm could be done. Growls were shared between the former allies.
"Ty is actually holding his own against Spencer," Kylie commented as she hid behind me.
"Shocking. Spencer is actually really good with a sword," I said watching the two males dancing around each other while dodging attacks.
Void Steve mumbled.
"He does look to be struggling," Galaxy Steve agreed. He looked over to me. "Should we join in?"
"No. It's too dangerous for you guys. I'll jump in," I said drawing my own sword. Nothing special about it. It was a plain metal sword. There's too many people I don't want to hurt for me to use a special enforced sword.
I went ahead and begun my own attacks. I clanked my sword against Spencer's as he went to attack Ty. I could hear Ty growl from around me.
"Sabre! What are you doing?!" Ty growled as he helped push Spencer away from us.
"Spencer is more after me than anyone else. Additionally, I know Spencer better," I said before blocking another attack. Ty hit his sword against Spencer's to help me. "You shouldn't be fighting right now. Let me take care of him."
"Ooh... yes. Let Sabre take care of me. I'm sure you have put your full trust on this backstabber," Spencer taunted. I was able to knock him back.
"Can you not let what happened go?! I thought you forgave me," I said just before he attacked me again.
"No! I never forgave you! I just pretended to forgive you. I never have, and I never will, forgive you for the pain you caused me!" Spencer said before striking me down. He didn't do anything to hurt me; he just used enough force to push me to the ground. "Come here, Tyler~"
I looked up to see Spencer about to pierce his sword through Ty, who was down and weaponless. He closed his eyes, bracing to the impact of the sword. A loud screech erupted through the building, making everyone cover their ears. My friends gasped in complete shock. I felt tears prick my eyes, and ended up strolling down my cheeks.
"S-Sabre..." Mary mumbled in shock. I looked back to them.
"I told you... I'm an assassin. However, I have my reasons for what I do," I said. I looked back to Spencer, the insanity finally leaving his eyes. "I wish I could've saved you, my dear past friend."
Spencer gave me another smirk; one last look of insanity.
"See you in hell, ELAN!" he growled before his eyes went lifeless. The insanity dissipated one last time so the dullness of death could take over.
"I'm afraid I won't, Spency," I said pulling my weapon out of his heart. No matter his new powers, a stab to the heart kills.
I looked over to Krill, who didn't seem fazed by my actions. I growled at him.

"Are you happy? I've accepted I can't change who I was in the past, and that my assassin like personality is still in me. However, Krill, I've learned that my actions are derived from what I truly desire. If I kill, it's for a good reason. Spencer was not my friend anymore; he chose to officially end that. He tried to hurt my friends, and is a reason another friend is dead. You are just as much of fault. Trust me... I will end you. No matter what the cost is, I will do it," I proclaimed helping Tyler off of the floor. Krill just watched, no emotion on his face.
Silence lingered in the hallway, and it already began to smell like death. Krill looked down into Spencer's body, and then back up to our group. A small smirk formed on his face.
"Sabre... I figured you would have some sort of speech to give after this. I've planned for every action you may take. I'm always multiple steps ahead of you. Every time you think you have the upper hand, I'll still be ahead. I've learned all about you and your abilities," Krill said looking back down to Spencer. "I gave Spencer powers to contrast to your's. However, I didn't account for the cockiness he has. My mistake on that, but I did plan for his death."
"Honestly, you're like that creepy villain that is crazy smart," Alex mumbled. Krill looked directly at Alex, making him duck away.
"Alex... I am," Krill said before taking something out of his pocket. He pressed a button on the device. "Sabre... attack them."
"Hah!" Galaxy Steve laughed. I took out a stick that Krill had given to me. I turned to face the laughing Steve. "Sabre would never attack us."
Void Steve laughed.
Lightning Summoner? Ooh... sounds thrilling!
"Come on, Sabre," Jake said with a slight laugh. He began to walk away, but turned back to me.
"Come on, Sabre," I said walking away with a laugh. I looked back to make sure Sabre was following us. I was a little confused when he was just standing there with a stick in his hands. "Sabre?"
"I got a stick~" Sabre said evilly. We all flinched a little at his tone.
"S-Sabre! What are you doing?" I asked before he pointed his stick towards the ground, but in our direction. Lightning was summoned over us. We were all hit by the electricity. I shook my head to recover. "Sabre! What are you doing?"
"I have a stick~" Sabre repeated before spamming us with lightning.
Void Steve yelled as he dodged some lightning.
"You guys might wanna run!" Sabre yelled before charging at us. We all took his insane advice and booked it. Of course, we wouldn't leave without him, but we still needed him to snap out of his little trance.
"Good bye!" Krill exclaimed before teleporting away. We all continued to run away from the controlled Sabre.

"What are we going to do?" Galaxy Steve asked.
"I have no idea! Krill is the one controlling him; maybe he is the only one who can undo this mind controlling thing..." I said turning around the corner of the hallway.
"So what do you suggest we do?" Mary asked as she jumped ahead to dodge some lightning. I knew Sabre was still chasing us, but the lightning stopped.
"Awe... he took my stick!" Sabre complained before shooting a fireball at us. We all yelped as we dodged the oncoming attack. "At least I still have my own powers!"
"You know Krill won't willingly change Sabre back to normal," Mary added after Sabre interrupted her.
I didn't really know what to do. She was right, Krill wouldn't change Sabre back willingly, and what can we really do to change him back? I mean, it's corrupted magic! There's nothing you can really do to change that-WAIT! I HAVE AN IDEA!
"I have an idea, but we will need Sabre to stay in one place so I can do it," I said turning into anther hallway. The others followed, and Sabre did as well.
"Why won't you guys just stay still and let me destroy you?!" Sabre yelled as he launched another attack.
"NOT BY A LONG SHOT!" Tyler yelled before tossing his hand towards Sabre. Suddenly, there was a bright flash of light. We all stopped running, and looked back to Tyler. He was still holding his hand out, but it was surrounded by a magical aura.
Sabre was floating in midair. He was struggling against the magical restraints that kept him in the air. He was growling loudly and glaring at us.
"Hurry, Jake! I don't know how long I can contain him!" Ty yelled as he began to lose strength.
I nodded my head, and put my hand up to face Sabre. I closed my eyes and began my plan. Sabre was calming down because he wasn't growling as loudly.
"Why is he just staring at Jake's hand?" Kylie asked softly. Someone shushed her.
"Shh... it's probably part of his plan," they said. I tuned them out.
Finally, I opened my eyes and put my hand down. I nodded towards Tyler, who gently lowered Sabre to the ground. I stared at Sabre. His head snapped up and stared at me. I smiled back at him.
"¡Deja su mente, ahora!" I exclaimed wiping my hand across his vision.
Sabre's head snapped to the side, and then back to the ground. Slowly, he shook his head and looked back up to us. He looked between us, I think.
"Oh, hey guys!" he said happily before looking around the hallway. "How did we get here?"
We all cheered; making him a little confused.
"So... to sum it up shortly, Krill told you to attack us. We all laughed, but then you actually attacked us. He gave you a stick that summoner lightning, and you chased us down here. I came up with a plan to snap you out of your little trance. Ty held you in place and I did my thing. Here we are!" I said. He stared for a moment.
"I had a stick that shot lightning?" he asked. I glared a little bit.
"That's what you got from that?!" I said annoyingly. He laughed.
"I'm kidding. It just reminded me of when Rainbow and Elemental Steve were still alive. We had a similar experience with one being mind controlled with a powered stick," he explained while standing up. "Wait, so what did you do to me, exactly?"
"Well, I knew Krill user corrupted magic to control you. I wasn't sure what to do until I realized my magic was corrupted. So, I used my corrupted magic to overpower his corrupted magic. Since my powers contrast to your's, I knew my magic would be more accepting with your body," I explained. Every stayed silent as I finished my idea. It stayed quiet, and I thought I said something wrong. "Did I say something wrong?"
"No... it's just... how did you come up with that?" Mary asked with a small laugh. I shrugged my shoulders.
"I don't know... that's just what came to mind. Worked, didn't it?" I asked placing my hands on my hips. Everyone shrugged.
Void Steve said.
"We should probably get out of here before Krill comes back," Sabre said as he pointed to a nearby door. We all nodded our heads in agreement.
Those fools! Do they really think they can escape me? FOREVER?! No... calm yourself, Krill. Let them think they've escaped safely. In reality, they are leading themselves towards certain death! Sabre will die! I will make sure if that!
My plan is going along perfectly. Sabre doesn't realize it, but he's only thinking he's changed. Deep down, I still have my little pest telling him he's evil. He'll fall into it eventually. For now, I need to find that orb before they do. That orb is the key to ultimate power!
"Sir! We've managed to copy the map leading to the orb you seek!" one employee said proudly. Calm yourself; copying a map is nothing to be proud of.
"Good... we will set out tomorrow. No, let me change that. I will set out tomorrow to find the orb. The rest of you all will stay here and monitor Sabre. We can't have him overloading himself just yet... can we?" I smirked pulling up a screen filled with Sabre's vitals.
Sabre's different, obviously. However, his powers have cursed him in a way. Pushing himself to a certain point can cause Sabre to overload himself. His organs could easily shut down if he pushes himself. Oh, but of course they don't know that. If they did, they would do everything in their power to prevent that. I can't have that...

Once a prosperous and well-to-do city, Oar's Crest has fallen into depression and disrepair. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Author's Note: Dungeons are Bad Business (DABB) is a slow burn slice-of-life dungeon core litRPG citybuilder that's focused on the day to day experience of running a dungeon. There will be some action, but it won't be the focus of the story and Vee and his friends will usually overcome their problems with their minds and their pocketbooks instead of their weapons. Since I'm participating in the writeathon, I will probably be uploading chapters almost daily for the duration of the event. Thanks for reading!
