《More Than You Realize》Chapter 42: Relical Moments Can't Last

I can't seem to get my counter part's words out of my head. Each word left, but came back like a moth to a flame. I felt this little depression spell I have continue to work on me. I couldn't seem to get them out.
"You're pretty weak, Sabre," my other self grinned. I glanced up to them, only to look back down in pain.
"Leave me alone..." I mumbled while shaking my head some. "I don't want to hear anymore of your attempts to bring me down."
"They're working, are they not?" they smirked. I growled before standing up, a little hit of color coming back to me.
"NO! I won't listen to you anymore! I will never go to this evil side you seem to be set on. That life is behind me! I don't believe a word you tell me. Lies! They're all lies!" I yelled.
Void Steve! Yes... it is!
"You are not me; I am not you! I will never turn my back on my friends! NEVER!" I yelled. The other me growled before disappearing completely.
I could only hear my labored breathing before the blackness consumed my vision even more.
"I'm not Slade, and Slade is not me! I won't become that monster again!" I yelled at my past version of myself.
"You will have no choice! This is the only way to live!" Slade yelled as he neared me. I didn't back away as he finally stood face to face with me.
We stood in silence, letting the creepy atmosphere take over. We both glared at one another in the eyes. His showed evil, but I knew mine were determined.
"There's a better way to live, and Sabre is the one leading me to that," I proclaimed.
Slade sighed and shook his head angrily.
"Just you wait, Jake. Staying with that group will be the biggest mistake of your life," Slade said before walking away. His body began to disappear slowly.
"No... this was just a test... like Void Steve said," I breathed out before collapsing.
Jake and I shot up at the same time. My breathing was heavy and labored. Jake's breathing as the same as mine. We looked at one another with shock all over our face.
"Did you..." I mumbled. He knew what I was trying to say.
"Face my worst fear? Absolutely!" he said falling on his back. I looked over to Void Steve, who was at my side with a worried expression.
Void Steve said before I could ask the same question.
"It sure felt real to me..." I mumbled.
"HAHAH! You did it! You three did it!" a familiar voice called from the outside. We all looked at each other before running outside.
The same dragon that was in the cave before landed in front of our small group. Everyone except Jake, Void Steve and I hid... well, they hid behind us.

"Hey, you're that dragon from the cave," Jake said pointing to it. The dragon nodded their head with a smirk.
"Wh-what dragon?!" Mary stutterer as she his more behind her brother.
"We were going to explain in the morning," I said with a small, reassuring smile.
Void Steve finished.
"We were in the cave trying to find the Relical Orb. We wondered forever, but we just couldn't seem to find anything. The voice that threatened us to go away before we entered came back, telling us the exact same thing: "Get out"," I began.
Void Steve said gesturing to the dragon,
"Then, they agreed to help us; seeing our reasons worthy enough of finding the orb. So, they told us to leave the cave and walk straight, and to not get off that path. That's why we were placing sticks down, so we would know which way to go when we woke up. I'm just confused, now. What do you mean by, "We passed?" Jake finished. The dragon snorted.
"You passed! The test! Whatever y'all saw in your nightmare was a test. You passed the test!" the dragon exclaimed happily.
"I'm... confused... What was this supposed test?" I asked.
"The test was your nightmares. To see if you could face anything. You faced something you feared the most. Actually... you three are basically scared of the same thing..." the dragon said plainly. All three of us looked at one another.
"Why did you only test them?" Galaxy Steve asked. The dragon looked to the galaxy-like Steve.
"Because, these three are the one's who consulted me about the Relical Orb. Plus, these three will determine the fate of the world more than the rest of you, sorry to say," the dragon said.
"Hey!" Alex, Mary, Kylie, Ty, and Galaxy Steve exclaimed. The dragon shrugged it's scaly shoulders.
Void Steve questioned.
"For the Relical Orb. You see, the orb isn't something you can easily obtain, your guys' father made sure of that. However, he made sure the orb could be put to good use. You three have shown that the evil desire in you is something to control, and you can do it. You can fight the darkness that lives inside of you," the dragon stated.
"Makes sense. If you can control the darkness, than you can use the orb for good purposes without that evil intention coming out," Tyler commented. The five came out from behind us once they were more comfortable around the dragon.
"But... now what? Does this mean the direction you lead them in is wrong? Do we have to be taken there a different way?" Alex asked.
"Yes. I knew you would stop eventually for a break. I knew that that would be the perfect time. It was better than just having you guys going into a twitch and then passing out," the dragon said as if it were proud of itself.

Void Steve agreed.
"Well, since you five," the dragon said looking at Alex, Mary, Kylie, Tyler, and Galaxy Steve, "are with Sabre, Void Steve, and Jake, I will allow you five to find the orb with them. Get close. I'm not doing a long radius of teleportation."
We all huddled together and close to the dragon. The area around us began to glow. It got brighter and brighter by the second. I could tell we were about to teleport.
"NOT SO FAST!" I heard Krill exclaimed before jumping into the light. We all yelped, but he had timed his jumping just right. We had all teleported.
"KRILL!" I yelled once we were revealed to be in a cave. Krill snarled at me before glancing behind me. A smirk formed on his face. I looked behind me. My eyes stared in awe and my mouth hung open.
"The orb is mine!" Krill exclaimed before pushing past me. I growled.
"Not by a long shot!" I yelled. Everyone ran/flew in front of Krill, blocking him. "Everyone! Keep him busy. Galaxy Steve, come with me!"
Everyone nodded their heads and began attacking Krill. Galaxy Steve ran along with me as I made my way to the Relical Orb. I just noticed, the dragon seems to just be watching us all from above. Wow; they won't help us one bit? Thanks a lot...
"Okay, Galaxy Steve. I need you to help me up this column," I said as we approached the tall rock formation that held the orb on top.
"Okay, but it'll take a while. That's really, really tall," he said as he began to climb the rocks. He stopped before looking back down to me. "Wait! We can just fly!"
I could tell he was about to jump off of the rock.
"No! Stop!" I yelled before he could jump. He raised a eyebrow and looked down to me.
"What? Why can't we just fly up and grab it?" Galaxy Steve asked.
"How can you not feel it? The Relical Orb is overpowering any other abilities. Our powers are limited," I said before attempting my own attempt at flying. I ended up wobbling on my feet, trying to regain my balance. "See?"
"GOSH DARNIT!" he yelled before continuing his climb. I laughed before following him up.
I glanced back to the others after we had made it up a bit of the ways. Magic was being thrown all over the place. Some even tried to get to us, but disappeared before it could.
"See? The orb is absorbing the magical energy when something is near it. Their attacks work at a distance, but you can see that they disappear if they get close to us," I said before continuing to climb up.
"Yeah. Honestly, that's kind of good. We don't have to worry about getting hurt from their fighting," Galaxy Steve commented. I nodded my head.
Finally, we made it to the small platform that laid just a bit below the orb. I could feel the power radiating from it from where I was. Galaxy Steve joined me as we gazed at the glowing orb. He nodded towards me, and I nodded back to him.
"Let's grab it!" Galaxy Steve exclaimed.
The barrage of attacks were getting quite tiring. It takes a bit of energy to launch those attacks over and over again. I don't even know how Krill is still standing! We were all resting because we knew there were others to help with the attacks. Well, Kylie made potions while Mary threw them at Krill to weaken him. Honestly, they worked!
I glanced up to see Sabre almost at the orb.
"Come on, Sabre! Just grab it and let's go!" I yelled reaching my hand out towards him. He looked a little scared, but nodded his head. He motioned for Galaxy Steve to help him.
Galaxy Steve helped him up some so he could reach the glowing orb.
"NO!" Krill yelled as he got ready to launch some fire at them. Sabre didn't hear him; he just continued to reach for the orb.
"SABRE! GALAXY STEVE!" Kylie yelled worryingly. Both of their heads snapped towards us, and their eyes went wide.
Before the fire could hit them, Galaxy Steve tossed Sabre up to where the orb sat. Sabre looked down to Galaxy Steve just as the attacked engulfed him.
"GALAXY STEVE!" Sabre yelled teaching his hand towards where Galaxy Steve stood. Even from here, I could see the salty water stream done his face. "No... Galaxy Steve..."
The fire disappeared slowly. Once it did, we could all see the severely injured Galaxy Steve. His eyes were closed, and he wavered back and forth. He fell forward and collided with the ground.
Sabre grabbed the orb and jumped down to Galaxy Steve quickly. He picked Galaxy Steve up, and used the orb to float back down to us. We all rushed over except for Alex and Mary. They kept Krill away from us as we checked Galaxy Steve.
Sabre didn't want to check him. He was too scared of what was wrong. I did it for him. I didn't want to tell him the horrible news once I dropped his wrist. I think, however, he knew by my actions.
"H-he can't be..." Sabre stuttered before collapsing to the ground. Void Steve put an arm around Sabre to give him a side hug. Sabre turned into Void Steve and began to let every ounce of fluid in his body out.
"Pathetic..." Krill mumbled before disappearing into thin air. I growled at the spot where he just stood.
We can't run from the truth. There is no mistake. Galaxy Steve is with Rainbow Steve now. He's... dead.
