《Mine (LenxMiku/Lenku/MikuxLen)》7

"S-She was just taken away!" I struggle to find my words as I finish explaining what happened.
I see Mikuo tense and Rin jolt up.
"Where?" Mikuo asked quickly, grey clouds shielding his green eyes, matching Miku's.
"It looked like an ambulance. I have no clue what the hospital was, but-"I stopped. Mikuo's phone was ringing.
St. Clarke Hospital.
"Y-Yes?" I was able to make out some muffled voices over the phone.
"W-What?" He continued, in a shock.
"Yes, I should be on her emergency contacts. Is she going to be okay?" His cheerful attitude changed to extremely serious within 5 minutes.
It's strange, what the people you love can do to you.
Very... strange...
"O-Okay? Yes.. 97119... yeah, I got it. Thank you." When pressed his finger on the large red button, it made a loud 'BEEP' noise.
"We need to ditch school."
"Exciting!" Rin said, trying to lighten things up.
"Yeah..." I was not in the mood.
All I could think about was Miku being hurt, possibly DYING and it could be our fault because we weren't there to protect her.
I can already see her teary-eyed face.
"Let's go then." I have never agreed to do something so... rebellious in my entire life.
- TIME SKIP -
"Miku? MIKU?" I was yelling as I barged into the hospital. A nurse stopped me.
"Sir, wait a second." She had large blue eyes and pink hair.
I looked at her chest. It held a name tag that said, "Megurine Luka."
Once I looked up, she gave me a wink. I flushed.
A... hot nurse is... flirting with me.
FOCUS! Miku. Yes. She's more important.
Rin coughed loudly, a glint of... jealousy? In her eyes... I don't understand....
"Now, what's your name, last to first?" Megurine asked, blinking.
"Hatsune. Hatsune Mikuo." I gave her all the information we needed, Rin still clinging onto my arm and Len rolling his eyes at the sight.

I could hear faint giggling coming from a patient's room.
Miku.
"Miku..?" I could hear Mikuo saying softly. Rin would usually pipe up and hug her, but she stayed quiet.
"Len! Welcome!" Miku gave me the cheeriest smile she's given me... well, ever!
I raised my eyebrow. Len?
"Come. Warmth." She spread her arms wide open and gestured for us to come. We kinda just gave each other weird looks before hesitantly hugging her.
I could feel her heart beating rapidly.
"Well~ welcome to wonderland!" She laughed heartily and snorted.
"Um... Miku?" Rin asked worriedly.
"Are you alright?" She continued, sitting at the edge of the soft yet springy medical bed, adorned with blue polka dots.
"I'm just DANDY!" She laughed once more, and then looked serious. Her eyes curiously drifted to me.
"Lennny~ come closer! I wanna squeeze your face cheeks!" She giggled and brought her hands to my face.
They were... warm. You know what else was warm? Me. On every inch of my body.
"D-Doctor! I think she needs more medication!" I retorted, trying to ignore her.
As if on cue, a dude in a medical coat walked in. It was the entire package. Blue pens in that little mini pocket at the top right of his chest, and a little gold name tag with black print on it.
"Ah, is this Miss Hatsune's family?" He smiled, his blue hair waving around his face.
Miku's hands immediately separated from my face and beckoned the doctor over.
"Kaiiiitooo! You're so cute, Kaito!" She laughed and grinned like a child.
Why was she calling him cute? Why am I jealo- no, I'm not. Never mind.
'Kaito' chuckled lightly and walked over to her, checking her temperature.
"She's got a fever. And that's a hell of a reaction from laughing gas." We all looked at each other with relief.

Except.... a small part of me didn't want that to be just laughing gas.
I'm getting ahead of myself.
"Mr. Shion! Can I get a good night's kiss?" Miku pleaded, smiling brightly.
Holy hell. Did Miku just ask for a kiss from a middle aged man? Laughing gas or not, she wouldn't want to make her boyfriend jealous~
I'm getting off topic. My eyes immediately followed Len, who was slightly clenching his fists.
"I'm sorry Miku, but that is highly inappropriate," Shion chuckled.
Snapping back to my senses, I immediately asked,
"Doctor, is she going to be okay?"
"Ah, yes. Most of the bones in her leg detached from each other. Not to fret, we did a bit of surgery, and she should be okay. However, the fee is going to be..." He tapped his chin.
"345393 ¥•"
"T-That's huge! I won't be able to pay it off! It's my fault! I'm sorry, Miku..." I hung my head in shame. I have failed to protect her.
"Why are you sorry, Mikuo? I luuuuve yoouuu~!" Miku stretched and yawned. She blacked out pretty fast, asleep.
Rin stood up.
"I'll help."
It hurt me to see Miku and Mikuo in pain.
I couldn't stand it anymore.
"I'll help. With my life savings. For college." Mikuo's eyes widened.
"Rin, you don't have to-"
"I do, and I will." I gave him an intense glare.
"I'll pay for it all." I repeated.
"Just give me the files." I couldn't let Mikuo stop me.
"Very well. Does anyone volunteer to help Miku in a wheelchair?"
"I-I could..." Len slowly said, scratching his head.
The doctor nodded, and trailed off, grabbing a jumble of papers off of a bedside table which Miku lay in.
The color of the bed complimented her hair perfectly.
With slight scratches around her face, she still manages to look graceful.
Mr. Shion hands me the files.
- TIME SKIP -
A nurse walked in with a wheelchair and gestured it to Len. He nodded and thanked her.
"Rin... you didn't have to do that. " Mikuo places his fingers on my cheek, trembling.
I put my hand on his arm and smile, a slight blush appearing on my cheeks.
"It's alright." He embraced me tight, making me gasp, but I gladly took the affection to my advantage and held his hand tightly.
'Beep'
It was a text from Mikuo. He said to take her home. He'd said they'd get a cab.
Miku was still asleep in her wheelchair, her green chair getting stuck in the wheels of the chair occasionally.
I sighed and stepped to the front desk.
"Do you happen to have a hair tie?" I asked politely.
"Of course," A nurse said, nodding.
She handed me a black, thick band.
I wasn't exactly experienced with doing hair, but I'd try my best.
Picking up scraps of hair from the floor, and raised it above her head.
One loop here and there, panting like a dog, I had finally finished. It looked horrible.
The bun was incredibly slanted, not to mention way too tight.
I just sighed and checked out of the hospital.
I grasped onto the handles of the wheelchair tightly and out of the corner of my eye, I could see a cast on her leg.
Wincing, I walked out with the automatic doors.
As we reached the car, I tried to lift her up. She was way too heavy.
"Ngh..." I grunted, pushing in farther. She finally fit in the car.
Sweat dripping from my forehead. I patted her shoulder, only to have a hand meet mine.

Fragments of Glass
before the 1939-1945 War, most churches in England had stained glass windows, but despite local people's best efforts many of these windows were smashed in the bombing. What could be repaired was repaired, but in many churches all they could do was reassemble the remaining fragments randomly, with extra bits of clear glass added to eke them out to fill the windows. That is what I imagined for my collection of short stories: fragments of stained glass, bits of robe, bits of faces, all sorts of odds and ends randomly stuck together. And with quite a lot of clear fragments among the coloured ones. Just broken pieces of stories that anyone can look through.
