《Contrasting Similarities》26. Yes or No

I entered the room and immediately looked towards the huge windows to see Jayden sitting on one of the chairs in the corridor.
"Have a seat," Nico said, shutting the door softly. "Wherever you feel comfortable."
I took a seat on one of the cushioned chairs before the desk. He waited for me to get seated before moving to the other side of the desk.
"Can I keep Asher on a video call?" I asked, fiddling with my thumbs in my lap.
He smiled.
"I don't see why not. It's up to you," he said.
I nodded slowly and got my phone out to call Asher. He picked up on the first ring.
He was sitting in an office type room, his laptop before him.
Isn't it sunday?
He smiled and blew a kiss when he saw me, not speaking anything. I smiled, despite myself and waved my hand in return. He chuckled but I didn't hear anything from his side.
I turned off the mic and kept the phone before me, so I could see him.
Just this relieved me a lot.
I nodded at Nico and he smiled, picking up his notepad.
"Okay. So to make it easier, we will start with yes or no questions," he said. I nodded. That would be easier.
"Did you have breakfast today?" He asked.
"Yes," I said.
"Was it delicious?" He asked.
"Yes," I said.
"Were you full before you ate everything on your plate?"
"No."
"Did you have more than one serving?" He asked.
"Yes," I said, smiling. Asher has strong instincts, I guess.
"Did something special happen?" He asked, looking at me closely. I hesitated.
"You can't take so long to answer," he said. I looked at Asher. He was looking at the laptop and glancing at me from time to time. He smiled when he caught me looking.
"Yes," I said, looking back up.
"Did you like whatever happened?"
"Yes."
"Hm. Alright. I hope your nerves are calm now." He smiled.
Oh. That was effective.
"So, how have you been feeling?" He asked. "You can't answer with okay, fine, good, great, etc. I mean, more on the negative side."
I thought for a moment.
He just wants to help.
"Suffocated," I answered.
"Why?" He asked, tilting his head.
"Because..." I stopped, looking down at the desk and frowning. I looked at Asher and saw Lucian was standing behind him now. I locked eyes with him the moment my eyes landed on the screen.
"Because I felt like I didn't have any control anymore," I said, looking away from the phone.
"Do you have nightmares often?" He asked.
I shook my head.
"Not often. Sometimes."
"When something triggers it." He completed for me.
"I've been told you're seeing things, zoning out and having difficulty catching up to what is happening," he began. "Is there anything else you felt that was out of place?"
"Yeah. I've started stuttering when talking normally or sometimes when I speak it's not understandable," I said. He nodded his head and looked down at his notepad, writing something.
"And," I continued. He stopped and looked up at me. "My emotions are all over the place. I've started crying more often and out of nowhere."
"You know why you start crying," he said. "It's not out of nowhere."

I frowned, looking down at my lap, coming face to face with Asher again. He smiled and put his hand on his heart, before showing me finger hearts.
"Did you cry today?" Nico asked. I nodded.
"What were you doing at that time?" He asked.
"I was in the car on the way here and there was this song playing," I stopped there, knowing he's reached where he wanted to.
"What song was it?" He asked, without taking his eyes off the spot where he was tapping his pen. "Can you tell me the artist's name too?"
"When you say nothing at all by Ronan Keating." I said, watching the pen now.
"I love that song. Beau told me about it," he said. "When did you listen to it first?"
"I was seven." I said. I remember that day clearly.
"What were you doing at that time? Do you remember the details?" He asked.
"We were in the living room, Mom and Dad had gotten married that day and Dad was singing," I said, my eyes tearing up just at the thought. I looked down and blinked, trying to get rid of the tears.
"Did he sing it often?" He asked.
"Everyday. It was also his favorite lullaby," I said.
"That's sweet," he smiled.
"This song reminds you of your Dad," he said. "Do you just remember it as that or did something come into your mind when you heard it?"
"Moments," I said.
"And they feel real?" He stopped tapping his pen.
"Yes," I answered.
"When you zone out do you see these moments?" He asked.
"Yes," I whispered.
"How does it feel?" He asked. "I want an honest answer, please."
I stopped. Picking at thd egde of his desk, I looked at him for a moment before gulping.
"Uh. Like I'm living that moment, then it ends and I remember the present and it kinda comes crashing down."
"And you feel like you're going through the same process again and again?" He asked. I nodded. "Like having it then losing it again."
"How many hallucinations have you had?" He asked.
"Three," I answered.
"Can you tell me what you saw?"
I shook my head.
"Is it that bad?" He asked.
"Yes."
"Do you hear things?" He asked. "Like whispers that do not belong to the people who are around you or sometimes even someone yelling at you?"
"I just hear them at normal volume." I shut my mouth quickly.
"You didn't tell me you were hearing voices," he stated, looking at me, like staring through my soul. "Did you not want to tell me about it?"
I shook my head slowly.
"Why?" He asked. I stayed silent at that.
"Can you tell me whose voice it is? Have you ever heard that voice?"
I shook my head again.
"I don't know. It's a strange voice."
"It's the same voice every time," He said, looking at me for confirmation. I nodded.
"What does it say? Positive things or negative?"
"Negative," I muttered.
"Has it affected you?" He asked. I nodded.
"Has it affected anyone else?"
"Rose," I answered.
"How so?" He asked, leaning back in his chair and moving from side to side.

"I started trying to keep her away from everyone because it said they will hurt her," I said.
"And you didn't do it before?" He asked. I shook my head.
I had it in control before. As long as I scored less and kept getting in trouble with Lucas, she was safe.
"When did you start doing it?"
"The night Jayden found us." I answered hoping he wouldn't ask for details.
"What happened before breakfast?" He asked instead, making me sigh in relief.
"I was on high alert for some reason. I could hear what they were saying but I couldn't understand anything. Then I panicked."
"Did something make it worse?" He asked. "What triggered it?"
"A memory."
"Was the memory related to what was happening?"
"Yes."
"Is it always related to what is happening at present?" He asked.
Since the moment he started with questions till now, he's kept an emotionless face most of the time.
"Mostly," I said.
"Okay, Bunny. That's all for today. Thanks for trying. I was scared by what Dex told me," he said, breaking into a smile.
"What did he tell you?" I asked.
"That by the end of this session, I would want to bang my head on a wall and you would ruin my career as a therapist," he said, making me scowl.
That was exaggerated.
I rolled my eyes.
"I saw that."
I jumped and nearly dropped my phone. With shaky hands I turned my mic on.
"Turn the mic off, Lucian." I said, quickly.
"We're on our way, Bunny. I know the session is over," he said. I looked at him and saw he was in a car.
"Sti- Nico wants to talk to you," I said, sliding the phone over to the opposite side of the desk.
Nico looked at me, smiled and picked up the phone.
"Yes?" Lucian asked.
"If you're on your way, I'll just tell you when you reach here," he said, waving his hand.
"Hm. Okay," Lucian said, before hanging up.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
"You're still so scared of him," he mused, looking at me with an amused smile.
"He's just gotten scarier," I said, comparing Lucian's sixteen year old self to his now twenty seven year old self.
He chuckled at that.
"So what do you like to do in your free time?" He asked, curiously.
"I used to cook with Mom. Then I tried photography and gardening after her death," I said. "I don't have any hobby now."
"You can't not have any hobby," He said, putting his elbows on the desk and clasping his hands together. "Just because you haven't done it in a while, does not mean it's not your hobby anymore."
"So when someone asks, you're gonna answer with cooking, photography and gardening," he said, putting a finger as he listed my three hobbies. "Promise me you'll do one of these today."
I nodded.
"I will."
"Why doesn't Muffin, I mean, Beau live here?" I asked. His expressions went from amused when I called him Muffin to avoiding my gaze at the end.
"Some reasons." He shrugged.
"Thanks for being vague, sti- Nicholas." I caught myself in time.
"I've missed out eleven years, Bunny. Don't hold back," he said. I looked at him with disbelief.
"You want to be called Stinky-butt?" I asked. He shrugged.
"As long as I hold a special place. Nicknames make it more comfortable and easy to be around each other," he said, shrugging again.
A chuckle left my mouth, causing him to look at me and smile sweetly.
Asher, Nicholas and Beau were childhood best friends. Nicholas was pretty annoying, so we named him Stinky-butt and Beau brought Muffins, that's why he's muffin and he's sweet.
I looked out when I saw movement. My brothers were here. Lucian was leading them and judging by how firm and scary just the knock was, he was the one who knocked.
Nicholas stood up and walked to the door.
"Good morning, Brother," he greeted, nodding his head politely and extending his hand forward.
"Good morning, Nicholas." Lucian said, shaking his hand. "How'd it go?"
"It went great. Bunny was good, right Bunny?" Nico asked, turning to face me.
I nodded quickly. I love him for how he's trying to take my side.
"Hm." Lucian said, his gaze flicking from him to me. He narrowed his eyes at me, making me look away and fiddle with my hands. "And I know why you dismissed me so quickly on the call."
Fuck.
If I get in trouble for rolling my eyes now.
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes again.
"Why don't you step inside and take a seat then we will talk about everything in detail?" Nico said, changing the topic, thankfully.
Lucian gave him a look and stepped inside, followed by my other brothers. Rose entered at last with Josiah.
I was about to rush forward and hug her tight but Nico cut my thoughts.
"Do you mind stepping out while I talk to your siblings, Bunny?" Nico asked, smiling at me.
I stood up.
"Don't move from that chair." Damien pointed at the chair that would be suitable for all of them to keep an eye on me.
Lucian's warning look stopped me from giving him a piece of my mind.
"And I want you to spend that time searching your mind for something, some memory that doesn't make you cry and just makes you happy. Preferably something recent," Nico said. I nodded.
"Homework," I muttered, to which he chuckled softly.
I stood up and was about to walk straight to my twin for a quick hug when Asher spoke.
"I'm proud of you, sweetie," he said, smiling at me.
I stopped and turned to him with a smile of my own. He looked at me expectantly. I took two steps, reached him and wrapped my arms around his waist slowly, hesitantly.
He kissed my head.
"Thank you," he said, pushing my hair back behind my shoulder, before setting his hand on the back of my head.
I pulled away after some seconds and walked away without looking at anyone.
I hugged Rose tight.
"I'm happy for you," she said, softly, into my neck. Placing a kiss on her cheek, I pulled away and walked out.
I sat on the chair Damien pointed to, feeling really alone, despite feeling everyone's eyes on me. Although I couldn't see them looking at me, I knew they were.
I stared at the black glass before me, for a moment before turning my attention to my feet, swinging back and forth in my chair.

The Final Test
Earth was overtaken by the Calumnia ten years ago and if it weren't for the alien Occisio race who saved the remnants of humanity, Indi's race would have gone extinct. Chronicles of Xod (returning from hiatus)
After a long recovery over a chronic motion sickness issue, I feel I'm ready to return to writing this book. It might be slow at first, but I'm hoping to pick up where I left off. I apologize again for the long hiatus. The pages following are a true account. An account of how I, Josh--a teenage nerd from modern suburbia--ended up in a strange world filled with fantastic magic, bizarre creatures, and terrifying dungeons. Despite the troped-up fantasy feel of the world, this is hardly an ordinary tale. For one, don’t expect a happy ending. With the trials I’ve been through, the horrors I’ve seen and the atrocities I’ve committed, believe me when I tell you, this is not a happy tale filled with friendly rainbow bears or teenage flying unicorns. It’s more likely you’ll finish this book mentally scarred as I will not spare the details of my unfortunate adventures. With the help of my trusted companion Gui, I gain an insight that no one else in the world has. This knowledge allows me to exploit and, for lack of a better term, metagame the system which gave me a clear advantage over its residents. “With great power...,” someone might begin to quote to me. In my defense, I think maybe even you, reader, might have acted similarly with how this reality changed my view of good and evil. This story will be updated regularly on Wednesdays around 6 PM. There will only be about 1000 words per update. The focus is to finish the story before doing any major changes or editing. Please read as if this is a work in progress, not a finished product. Feel free to let me know if you see any error, whether glaring or minor. If you help me out, I'll be sure to add you to a thank you list at the front of the book when it is published. Chronicles of Xod is a first-person fantasy novel that follows the adventures of a young man from Earth. Through unknown circumstances, he finds himself in a fantasy world where life is not all wonders and happy endings. The story takes common fantasy concepts from my favorite video games, books and movies and gives them an adult edge. It also introduces some taboo concepts often glossed over by stories written for broad audiences. The style is meant to be immersive and heavily detailed. The short novel will be written in a way that attempts to bring a sense of realism to an unrealistic genre. Where there are realistic consequences and dangers in a world populated with violent monsters, cruel demons, bloodthirsty undead, and immoral bandits. In this fantasy world, the inhabitants are essentially gender blind as far as sexuality is concerned. There is also more variation amongst male and female physiology. This isn't meant to be any kind of promotion or demotion of social behavior in reality. Just a concept I thought would be an interesting idea to have in a fantasy setting. I highly discourage anyone from reading this material if you are personally concerned with being offended or traumatized. Both violent and sexual content will be graphically detailed. All characters involved in sexual scenes are mature and of the age of consent(18+).
