《Contrasting Similarities》34. Lucian and Ballet

"He's so similar to Dad," Rose mumbled, softly, not wanting to interrupt the comforting silence. But her soft sweet voice blended so perfectly with the silence, it added to the comfort.
"Yeah," I whispered. "How's it going?"
"Good," she replied, turning to her side to look at me. "Josiah stayed with me all the time and he was so sweet and he was so worried for you. All of them were. This day was long."
"Yeah, it was. So much has happened just today," I mumbled. "Are you excited for school?"
"Yes," she said, excitedly. "I can't wait to change the routine a bit and you know, have more normal days."
I chuckled.
"Yeah." I turned to look at her. "Are you okay?"
Her expressions changed from an amused smile to a confused one.
"Yes I am," she said, softly. "Why?"
"Do you..." I stopped to clear my throat. "Like have any trauma or nightmares from that night? Something?"
Rose smiled for reassurance and shook her head.
"I'm okay, Levi."
I could see the truth in her answer and the lack of hesitance in it.
"You will tell me if you have any issue right?" I asked, looking at her hopefully.
"You'll know either way," she joked. "It's impossible to hide things from you."
She giggled softly before the silence took over again.
Releasing a sigh, I turned to lay on my back again. My arms crossed under my head, while I stared at the ceiling.
"Do you think I'm doing something wrong?" I asked, quietly. So quiet I was uncertain if she heard.
"As in giving them a chance?" Her soft voice broke the silence after two seconds.
A simple head nod was all the answer I gave.
"I don't think so. I mean, they made mistakes but they tried to make up for it. They care a lot and I feel like home again." She put her thoughts before me.
I hummed in response, so she took that a cue to continue.
"And you seem to be getting along with Asher and I love it when you give in. Or rather when he breaks that tough exterior and reaches out to the softer part of you," she said, which caused my lips to turn down and a frown to cover my face.
"I don't want to be like that," I muttered. "But it feels like I can't help it around him."
"That's what he's doing, Levi," Rose said. I turned my head to look at her, only to find her smiling softly at me.
"All you need to do is let go. Let go completely and let him take care of everything," she said, still smiling. "I know I don't know better than you. But from what I've noticed, Asher has your best intentions at heart."
"But what if they're acting?" I asked, turning back to stare at the ceiling.
"You would've noticed if they were," she said, yet again putting light on the fact that she trusts me with these things. "Do you really think Asher might be acting?"
"No, I guess." That was my immediate response. Pulling my hand from under my head, I touched my face lightly.
I can't get myself to believe he might be acting or using our trust in any way. Maybe it's the genuineness of his words and actions.
"We still have a lot of time," Rose said, pointing towards the deal we've made with Lucian.

I hummed, my thumb skimming over my nose.
'Now you're being adorable.'
My head snapped to my side when Rose moved closer.
"Can we cuddle?" She asked, softly, hesitantly.
I nodded, watching her expressions turn brighter. She adjusted herself beside me and snuggled closer, as I wrapped my arm around her.
Then we started catching up to what we did and what all happened.
"...then Damien and Jayden made fun of me-" She was cut off when I tightened my hold a little, signalling her to stop.
She zipped her mouth shut when we both heard heavy footsteps outside.
"Shit," I said, moving more into the blanket, so we were covered. "Pretend you're asleep."
Rose nodded and went still and silent. Lucian is not going to be happy we're staying up till midnight. It's almost midnight and we've been talking since Asher left.
"Is he gone?" She whispered, when it went silent. I nodded.
Rose fell asleep while talking, so I gave in myself and let sleep engulf me too.
---
"Wakey wakey, babies!"
I groaned, tightening my hold on Rose when she attempted to sit up.
"Levi. It's Damien," She whispered urgently.
"Exactly. It's not Annabelle or something," I muttered.
"Well, you're going to witness someone scarier than Annabelle if you're not up within ten seconds," Damien warned, before a swoosh was heard and he let the torturing sunlight in.
I groaned again and released my grip on my twin, proceeding to roll over and bury my face in the pillow.
I felt Rose shift from beside me and soon I heard her footsteps retreating to the bathroom.
"Get up," Damien said, tugging at the blanket. I clutched the blanket quickly and turned back to rest on my back, not opening my eyes.
"Bunny," A warning was thrown at me which I ignored of course and kept the blanket clutched tightly to my chest.
It all happened in a second. Damien pulled it again, pulling me with it towards the foot of the bed. Now I laid on my stomach with my head towards the foot of the bed and my feet towards the headboard.
I groaned into the sheets, not letting go of the blanket that was clutched tightly in my hands that were hanging off the bed.
An annoyed sigh was what broke the comfortable sleepy silence, just when I was about to walk back into the lands of sleep.
"Warned you. Now you stay here and wish it really was Annabelle," he said, trying to get me up again. I scoffed quietly.
"Lucian!"
I jumped and sat up quickly, parting my hair so they stayed out of my face.
"I'm up!"
"Oh! You are?" He smirked, victoriously, making me want to claw his eyes out. "Be down in forty."
"Forty minutes?" I exclaimed. "I could've slept about thirty minutes more!"
"But Asher asked me to wake you two up now." He shrugged, gathering up the blanket and throwing it back on the bed.
On my face actually. While I was sitting up one second, I fell backwards when the blanket hit my face.
He chuckled at his own stupid actions and I heard his footsteps retreating.
I released a long breath and climbed down.
Walking into the bathroom, I stood by the sink, hearing Rose humming to a song over the sound of the shower running.
The shower was on the other side of the big bathroom. It was so big and you could black out the walls. Cool.

I brushed slowly, looking at the nest on my head, as my eyes closed on their own accord and my head lolled.
The shower turned off, making me enjoy the complete silence for a while and close my eyes.
But Rose walking out made my head snap up again and look at her through the mirror.
She giggled on seeing my miserable state. She had a towel wrapped around her and another around her hair. She picked up her clothes before moving towards the space behind the mirror.
It's like a doorway without a door, between the shower and the sink, which opened up to a big space, with a great view and a big jacuzzi.
Rich people things.
"I don't wanna go," I muttered, hearing another laugh from her.
"Tell that to our guardian. Maybe he will let you stay home," she said, making me roll my eyes and a scoff to escape my mouth.
"Of course," I muttered, sarcasm dripping from that statement. "He will rather do Ballet than let me drop out."
Rose laughed loudly at that.
"I'd pay to see that," she said.
"Wait! Me too." I laughed. I don't think I will have the ability to be scared of him after that.
"Do you wanna ask him then? It's a win-win," she teased, knowing what my answer would be.
"Sure," I muttered, after I was done brushing.
Rose walked out fully dressed, drying her hair with the towel.
I walked out to get my clothes, leaving her there as she got the hair dryer out.
When I walked back in, Rose was drying her hair. She smiled at me when I entered, then went back to focus on her hair.
I hopped in the shower, turning it to a warmer setting. Taking a quick shower and dressing up quickly, I walked out. Rose was sitting on the bed, looking into her bag, to check if she had everything.
Mine was sitting in the corner beside the desk, empty. I sighed and walked to that corner.
Picking up the empty bag, I threw it on the bed and began stuffing a few pens, one notebook and nothing else. That's all.
Rose watched me zip it up, her hand stopped where it was, lifting her bag a little.
"We have most of the classes together anyways," she said, looking at me then at the almost empty bag.
"Alright. Let me just go find something for my feet," Rose said, retreating to the closet. I had put my shoes near the bed already, so I sat down and put my feet in them, waiting for my twin to finish putting hers on, then tie my shoelaces.
I watched my dangling feet, kicking them a little, while Rose rummaged through the closet.
My head lifted slightly, just enough so I could lift my gaze too and see the door, when footsteps were heard.
They stopped near the door and knocked.
I waited to see if they barged in or not.
"Come in," I said, when no one barged in. My supposedly deadpanned look changed into an emotionless one when Lucian walked in. I sat up straighter, raising my hands from beside my thighs on the bed to rest in my lap.
As soon as he spotted me sitting on the bed, his gaze lowered to my feet.
Maybe I was still sleepy, because I'm sure I saw him let out a sigh of relief and nod to himself. Like when you want an option to be correct in a question and it comes out to be correct.
But the question was a mystery.
His sharp gaze lifted to mine and he dropped the small twitch that tugged at his lips for a nanosecond. I looked at his nose, while he took his time lost in his thoughts.
Finally, after a few seconds he took a few steps towards the bed and reached me.
Crouching down before me, he began tying the shoelaces, not looking up at me once while he did so.
How does he always appear at a time like this?
"Done," he said, while lifting his head to look at me. I looked away quickly.
"Ready for school?" He asked, his deep voice appearing emotionless yet filled with something I haven't heard from him. That's why it was hard to point out what mood he was in.
"Yes." I shrugged, still not looking at him
"Good," he said, before standing up from his crouched down postion. He proceeded to sit down on the bed beside me. "If you get overwhelmed by all the new stuff or have any problem, call me. Okay?"
"Aren't you busy or something?" The words left my mouth almost immediately after he finished saying that.
"I may be busy, but I'm your guardian and your brother. Everything else comes second," he said, raising his hand that rested on his knee. He stopped though, looking between me and his hand, for two seconds, before dropping it with a nod.
There was awkward silence for a while, during which he looked like there was war going on inside his head. He's acting weird.
I looked back at the closet for some help. Luck was on my side, because Rose appeared, her hair done and she was wearing sandals.
"Good morning." She went with the formal greeting when she saw Lucian sitting there.
"Good morning, Rose. I just wanted you two to know that you can call me if there is any problem. Alright?" He asked. She nodded, looking anywhere but into his eyes.
"Yes Lucian," she said, quietly.
"Okay then. I'll see you at breakfast." He said, standing up. He cleared his throat and started walking. As soon as I heard the door shut with a soft thud, I released a breath.
"How does he always appear when I'm being dumb?" I asked, pointing towards my feet, while looking at her questioningly.
Rose frowned, looking between me and my feet.
"That's not being dumb," she stated.
I just shook my head. How is it not dumb that I can't even learn how to tie shoelaces?
I was pulled out of my thought when Rose appeared behind me, kneeling on the bed, while deciding what she wanted to do with my hair.
"I just want a simple ponytail please," I requested, kicking my feet, while she ran her fingers through my now open hair.
"You should totally keep them down today. It's our first day," she said, sweetly, trying to persuade me.
When I didn't respond, she got up and crouched in front me, with puppy eyes and her lower lip jutted out.
"Stop," I grumbled, looking away. My twin had the audacity to almost giggle at that.
"We can do similar hairstyles." She pointed to her hair, which were in kind of a half ponytail.
"Okay." I shrugged. She jumped quickly, excitement flowing through every cell of her body as she ran to sit behind me again.
She hummed to some song, to which I kept tapping my feet and staying still otherwise, while she did my hair.
"Alright. You look so pretty," Rose said, climbing off the bed and circling me. Well half circling me, from one side to the other.
"Thanks." A smile appeared on my face when I saw her bright one, which did not fade away for many seconds.
What I'd do to keep this smile on her face forever.

Condemned
“The human body is a fragile thing. But the soul... The soul is malleable. Easily tainted. All it takes is one drop of blood to dye it all red.” Long ago, in a time remembered only by a few, the seven lords of Syvernia, led by the Great Hero Ludwig, ended the Great Calamity that plagued humanity for as long as time itself. It was the dawn of a new age of man. . . until the thirst for more poisoned the new lords. Slowly, the thread that held humanity together loosened and a thick haze consumed the lands between. Mysterious vanishings, supernatural forces, and silence warns of a looming threat inside the coat of fog. Though the struggle of the realms did not interest Leor, for he was condemned as a Purblight, until he took a seemingly simple job: escort Alden to Lightendale and collect the handsome reward, a reward that would let him live the rest of his life with ease. But it’s never that simple, especially for someone who denounced the Gods. All his life, death followed Leor everywhere he went, cutting down his friends and family. When his first love died at the hands of an agent of light, he was prepared to throw everything away until a mysterious voice promised him a chance for retribution and a chance to bring her back by completing the seven trials. Thrown into the realm's struggle against the approaching haze and themselves, will Leor, a Purblight and an acquaintance of tragedy, use the very power he disdains to accomplish his goals? This is the rewrite of my novel: Condemned; I changed it to past tense and added/ took out some ideas from the original. This is essentially the first draft since I'm writing as I go. Also, there might be or might not be Gore, Sexual, or Traumatizing content. I only put it there for a disclaimer in case I want to add it. I have no set release schedule yet, but I'll try to post once every 2 week. Thanks for your patience.
