Hey!
So here it is.
Chapter 32 (lol) *shakes head* Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Greg's POV
"I have to go. I'll see ya later." Nick went out the back door and I looked at Cassie who was digging into some brownies on the counter.
What was that all about? This is like the millionth time those two have been alone together and billionth time I caught them staring at eachother like that and I am really starting to feel left out on information.
Alison walked in the kitchen and smiled at Cassie then walked over to me.
"Can I talk to you for a minute? I need to tell you something that's really important and your cousin won't leave me alone." I looked at Cassie and nodded.
We went back to our usual spot in the laundry room.
"Now what. In the world. Was so important. That you had to drag me in a smelly laundry room." She sighed and sat on top of the washer.
"I saw her."
"Who exactly did you see?"
"The girl who was with Abe."
"When did you see her?"
"Just now." I groaned and rolled my eyes.
"You and metaphores. Talk."
"She's Ava." My eyes widened and I shook my head.
"No that's impossible. You have to be wrong."
"Greg I know what I saw. And her name was on Abe's phone that night. He texted her. I knew her name sounded familiar but I wasn't sure and when I saw her... Then I was."
"So your telling me. That my cousin. Is sleeping with my sister's boyfriend? That makes no-" The door opened and our heads turned.
Darci smiled and started laughing.
"Debauchery!" Alison started laughing along with her and I stared at them like they were crazy.
Alison got down and said.
"I'm going home. Tell Abby I said bye." I nodded and we both left the room.
"What are you doing here." She shrugged and said.
"I don't know. I talked to Nick and he said he was here so I thought I'd kick it with you guys. What are you doing in the laundry room with your sister's friend?"
"N-nothing." She stopped and stepped in front off me.
"Your lying."
"N-no I'm not." She smiled and said.
"Yes you are. Dude. Every time you lie you stutter. Now tell me." I narrowed my eyes at her and said.
"There's nothing to tell." She rolled her eyes at me and we went to the living room.
"Come on. Please. I won't tell Greg."
"No now go away." I looked at Taylor then at Abby. When did she come downstaires?
"Won't tell Greg what?" She shifted unconfortably and looked at Taylor. He smirked at her and said.
"Abby has a crush on Nick." She looked at me wide eyed and said.
"I don't. We established this already Greg. Remember?" I smiled at her and then looked at Taylor.
"Go away. Your such a trouble maker. Its a wonder how nobody has locked you up yet." He laughed and ran up staires. Probably to trash my room some more. I laughed at that thought and Cassie came in the room.
"You guys just have a habit of having fun without me don't you?" I smiled at her and Darci scoffed.
"Where is Nick? He said he was here."
"He left a few minutes ago your too late." Abby sprang up and said.
"You know. We don't need Nick. He's... You know... Home. With his sisters'. Maybe he's playing a friendly game of monopoly. Or or. Maybe he's playing dressup with Oceana. Ya never know. That's why we should just leave him where he is." She smiled at three of us and I felt her need to not be around Nick overly suspicious.
I narrowed my eyes at her and said.
"Abby. Why don't you. Go tell Mona to come over. I'm sure she'd love to have some girl time with you." Her eyes widened and I smiled.
"No. No. That's fine. I'm just gonna go upstaires and um. You can invite whoever you want okay? Okay." She smiled and went to her room.
I shook my head and looked at Cassie who was biting her lip. That's when I really knew something was up. Cassie doesn't do that unless she's...
I looked at Darci and then back at Cassie.
"Cassie?" She looked at me wide eyed and I almost smiled at how beautifly nervous she looked but I had to focus on the problem at hand.
"What's going on?" She shook her head and smiled.
"Nothing. Nothing's going on. What's going on with you?" Darci folded her arms and I narrowed my eyes at her.
"Babe. I know you. If something is going on you need to tell me." She bit her lip again and that's when I knew she was nervous.
"I-I... Don't know what you mean." Darci smiled and walked up to her.
"You know something. Don't you?" She shook her head and I nodded.
"You do. And your gonna tell me. Right now." She looked at me and then Darci and said.
"Okay. Okay. I know something. But you have to promise not to tell because Abby. She told me not to tell you or anyone else and you didn't hear it from me but..." She trailed off and looked at the floor.
"Nick and Abby kissed." Darci mouth flew open and I was in a state of shock.
"What? When did this happen? When did this have time to happen?"
"In New York."
"What? I cannot believe-" I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. This is unbelievable. Completely outragous. What the hell?
"Why didn't you tell me this before?"
"I just found out." My jaws clenched and I was about to burst. How could she lie like that? How could he not tell me?
Cassie put her hand on my shoulder and said.
"You. Don't. Know."
"Well I do know okay? And this is..." I trailed off and started walking to her room.
"Greg? Where are you going?"
"Just go home."
I stormed upstaires and opened her door.
"We need to talk." She looked at me confused and I sat at her computer to desk.
"What's wrong?"
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I don't know what your talking about. Could you be more specific?"
"About you and Nick. You couldn't have just told me when I asked?" She stood up and scoffed.
"Greg. I told you the t-"
"You did not tell me the truth. You lied. You kissed him and he kissed you and neither of you told me."
"That's because its none of your business. What happened with us had nothing to do with you or anyone else." I stood up and said.
"It has everything to do with me."
"It has nothing to do with you."
"Your my sister and he's my friend and when I asked you. You said there was nothing."
"That's because its not!" We glared at eachother and I wanted to just kill myself. I never yell at my sister and every time I do I feel like crap.
"Who told you?"
"What?"
"Only two people knew about this. So who told you?" I can't tell on Cassie. She'd never forgive me. I'm not even supposed to know.
"Th-that's not important. The important thing is..." I sighed and sat back down. She sat down too.
"I'm sorry Greg. I guess I should have told you. But it doesn't matter because. He doesn't like me... I think." I looked at her and she looked at the floor.
I sighed and sat next to her.
"I'm sorry for yelling. I just... I wasn't expecting." I saw a tear fall and I was confused.
"Do you know how it feels to love someone. Who'd probably never love you back? I hate feeling like this. I just wish that I could stop it. But I can't. And every time I try to push them away. They just come right back and even stronger then before." She wiped a tear away and I hugged her.
"I don't know how that feels. But from the looks of it I don't really wanna know." She laughed a little and I smiled.
I wiped her face and poked her.
"Hey. Buck up. You'll be fine." She nodded.
"I should have told you and I didn't. That just proves that the truth can really blow up in your face." When she said that I started thinking about Abe and how I knew he cheated. I want to tell her so bad right now but I hate seeing her cry and she's all ready torn apart right now.
Instead of telling her I hugged her again.
"You'll be fine."
The Girl from the Mountain
Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
