《Human Race (Boyxboy) #1》Chapter Twenty: Infiltrating on Two Ends

Sam:
"Are you fucking serious!!!" I growled, but Riley measly shrugged. He shook himself dry, pulled up his zipper, and turned toward me with a half drunken smile. "You're going to get us killed!"
"Gotta piss on them somehow." He shrugged and I rolled my eyes.
"You're a moron." I whispered, ducking below the same bush Riley had taken his sprinkle on. I scrunched my face, and thrusted the beaten down walkie-talkie into his calloused hand.
Our mission was simple. Infiltrate the western castle and search for survivors—for Sketch. The guards were thinned, but even facing one of them was dangerous. The soulless beasts that shared our same skin could tear us apart within a blink of an eye. My training was not to fight but to to avoid detection. Vampires are the deadliest and most unpredictable opponent of all the demons that rushed our planets resources.
We could study crawlers and learn how to defeat them, but vampires?
Those things were always hungry.
If caught, we would face much more than any death sentence. Excruciating torture for information that both us valued more than our own lives. If capture was upon us, so was my death. My brain rattled with too many of our operations biggest secrets, I couldn't allow for them to obtain it.
My dagger burned against my waistband, reminding me of the mission ahead of us and the cost of it. It could all be over within a second, but I couldn't give in now.
Riley pressed on, while I kept a close watch on our surroundings. We rounded the corner, pressing close to wall to find the best blind spot to scale.
Riley whistled lowly for my attention, and I tossed the grappling hook towards him. He caught it effortlessly, throwing it up to latch onto a metal pipe lining the wall.
Riley went up first, using the stone and pipe for a better grip. I tested the rope with a small tug and started climbing after him. It was a cool night and the breeze felt nice against my face, as if pushing me to move faster. The only bright side of humanity's downfall smiled down upon me, as if my fallen ancestors were all watching and encouraging us to move faster.

Riley gently pushed the window up, making sure it didn't make so much as a creak before climbing in. It was a dark, dimly lit hall, that opened up farther around the corner down into two pathways.
We made our pact, and separated on a lone journey to infiltrate the castle on two ends. With little success these past few weeks, with little chatter on the airways we've managed to raid empty locations.
I silently made my way to to the end of the hall, silent in my movement. My training would not fail me - I had to remember that. There was a door to my right, and with the darkness as my aid I slipped inside.
The door clicked shut softly, and I sighed turning around to face my next obstacle. The room was completely pitch black, not a single light or indication of life. My flashlight sparked to life in my hand as I shined it down the hall. It was dark, much like a dungeons hallway. With one step into the hallway, an activation of torches protruded from the walls.
I gasped, nearly tripping over myself as the lights slowly illuminated the last of room in a timed sequence.
With the profound new light, and my disturbance the enormous beast in front of me woke up.
Either I was going crazy or I was actually in hell. The creature could only be described as a very large pit bull, twenty times the size and with three gigantic heads. A beast out of my darkest, deepest nightmares.
"Well, hello beautiful,"
I whipped around to face the icy, sharp whisper that delighted every possible nerve down my spine.
A demon.
His voice was smooth like butter, a mind trick vampires used to seduce their victim before sucking them dry. It was all a game to them, just like playing around with a puppy.
He was hiding in the darkness, enveloping himself in the blind spots of my weak human vision, taunting his prey for a better kill. To draw out a better hunt was to make this much more exciting for him. The vampire stepped from the shadows, allowing for half of his face to come into view.

My shock made me take a step back, frightened by the demon before me. I pulled my knife from my waist band, my fingers trembling against the silver blade.
His face pulled up into a sinister smile, one that would make anyone lose their grip on composure. My heart felt like a caged bird, desperately flapping its wings for escape. I was terrified, and that thing knew it too.
I watched him carefully, wondering if making it out of this alive was even an option anymore. Avoid detection. We weren't fighters against them, powerless to our own enslavement. His demeanor was strong enough to pull me to my knees, but it wasn't anything like the overwhelming panic I was feeling. This vampire was a noble.
"Mhmm, I see you met Cerberus," he walked toward me slowly, like how an animal hunts it's prey.
"Don't come any closer." I warned, but it went ignored and taken as a joke.
"Or what?"
"Or I'll kill you." I spat, but it didn't faze him.
I knew it wouldn't, it wasn't that my voice was shaky, it was just his aura was so confident.
As he stepped closer the range of his face got clearer, but from my point of view I did not want it to. His hair was the color of charcoal, and his eyes were two mismatched orbs of the ocean and a forest. The skin on his left side was rigid, as if the monster had been burned terribly.
Only if that person had succeeded.
It happened like a flash of lightening, the demon biting into my flesh, and my blade being disarmed. I let out a cry of pain as the filthy demon had latched itself onto me. My fight was leaving very quickly, my body going limp in his arms. I wanted to scream, but it seemed my voice had escaped me. I tried desperately to grab the dagger in my waistband, but I couldn't move my arms anymore. I was slowly becoming paralyzed and soon...dead.
He detached himself from me, but he did not stop licking the area where he had fed on me, the feeling rough and tingly. I detested it, and even as my body went into shock of a shaking trembling mess I had nothing to fight against.
I wasn't even sure if I could register anything anymore, let alone my own capture. If it meant a quick death, then so be it.
"You taste amazing," he murmured softly against my ear, making me shudder.
"Just kill me already, you monster." I choked out but he took my words like a joke and laughed.
"No, I'll be keeping you, human."
I wanted to yell in frustration! I had been caught this easily, and all for nothing. These beasts were far more terrifying than anything with three heads.
"Sam!" And there goes Riley, opening his big mouth. Couldn't he have shot me and taken a run for it? The demon dropped me, letting out a grunt of pain.
I was lightheaded and dropped down to the floor on my ass as Riley took us both to the grave with a measly wooden arrow. I didn't know who was the bigger idiot here, but I knew my life was already lost and I had to at least save his.
On my feet I wasn't sure what I would accomplish, but wobbly legs wouldn't stop me from being a distraction. Once they had one drop of blood, it was hard for them to stop without draining their victim dry. Meaning he would want me first.
"Riley run, I'm right behind you!" I shouted, lunging at the demon, but missed when he moved around me, grabbing my arm and pushing me into the ground.
My brain rattled inside my skull, as my final thoughts came crashing down. I cried out again, my arm being twisted painfully behind my back as he held me in place. With no fight left I went limp against the demon, watching as Riley disappeared out the window and into the dark night.
The mission was a failure.
"No getting away from me sweet cheeks, you're mine now."
