Anime: Nanbaka
(Y/n)'s POV
I had arrived at Nanba prison. A feeling of nervousness and excitement flowed through me as I headed towards the tall building. It gave off an aura that reeked of 'warning' and 'danger'.
But I wasn't afraid. I had come here to visit my brother after all. Honestly, I had a little trouble finding this place. It was almost impossible to get him to tell me which prison he was currently at.
"I'm guessing you're (Y/n)?" asked an intimidating bald man.
"Yes, that'd be me."
"Follow me."
I walked beside him as he started to walk off. While walking in silence, I glanced at his stature. Hmm, Sugoroku Hajime? Before I realised it, he returned my gaze with a questioning look.
"What?"
"Are you really his sister?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
"No, I just didn't expect him to have one."
"Should I take that as an insult or what?"
"I don't care what you take it as."
"Hmph, meanie."
"*smirks* I think I'm starting to see the resemblance."
I simply grinned cheekily as a reply to his statement. We soon arrived at a prison cell. Huh? Wasn't I supposed to be taken to the visiting room?
Hajime unlocked the door and moved to the side, gesturing for me to go inside. *gulp* I hesitantly headed in and looked around. Before I knew it, someone had knocked me to the ground in a bear hug.
"(Y/n)!"
"U-Uno!"
"Nice to see you again."
"I think we can talk after you get off me."
"Oh, sorry."
He pulled me up after getting up. I noticed three other guys standing behind him. They smiled at me once I looked at them. I returned their smile before turning to Uno.
"Guys, don't be shy. Come on, (Y/n)'s as harmless as a feather," Uno exclaimed while draping an arm around my shoulder.

"Hey!"
"This is Jyugo, Rock and Nico."
"Nice to meet you all."
Before they had a chance to reply, the door opened again. A couple inmates came in and greeted Uno and his friends. I stared at them in confusion.
"I asked Hajime to call them over to meet you," exclaimed Uno.
"Yeah, it's not everyday you get to see a girl," commented a guy with red-yellow hair.
"*cough pervert cough*"
"Oi, I heard that!"
I simply laughed. As I turned around, Rock's body accidentally collided with mine. I felt myself falling backwards until a pair of strong arms stopped my fall. But Rock was sprawled out on the floor.
I turned around to thank whoever had caught me. A man with orange-green hair and a monkey's tail greeted me with a small grin as I smiled.
"Thank you."
"Don't mention it," he replied.
"I'm (Y/n)."
"Yeah, I heard from Hajime. I'm Samon by the way."
"Hey, you're a guard here, right?"
"Yeah, what about it?"
"Uno said that this prison is really huge. Can I see the rest?"
"W-well, I don't think-"
"Pretty please with a cherry on top?"
I took his hand and looked up at him with puppy eyes. He cursed under his breath before complying to my wishes. I smiled happily and pulled him into a bear hug.
"Then let's go."
"H-hey, wait!"
I grabbed Samon's hand and dragged him out of the prison cell. Well, that was until we were stopped by my brother.
"(Y/n), where are you going?" he asked.
"Exploring."
"*smirks* I'll show you around then."
"No you will not! You four escape again and I'll beat you to death!" yelled an annoyed-looking Hajime.
"*laughs* I'll see you soon, Uno."
"Tch, leaving me to look after your inmates. How irresponsible," said Hajime.
"I owe you one," Samon replied.
Samon tugged at my hand as he began walking away. The hallways were all long and dark, matching the aura that it had given off when I had first arrived.

While heading towards what I deemed to be an unknown area, I couldn't help but wonder how Uno survived in such a dull place. There was no other way to describe these hallways.
"This seems rather boring, doesn't it?" Samon suddenly asked.
"Huh? Oh, yeah..."
"*laughs lightly* Well, it'll get better. Nanba is one of the best prisons in the world so at least look forward to where I'm taking you."
"*smiles* Okay."
Samon's POV
I glanced at her as she happily walked alongside me. How was she so carefree in a prison filled with the most dangerous criminals? Was she not afraid? Or was that friendly nature just a front for what she really was?
After dropping the topic, I took her to Building 5. I needed to put my documents back before taking her to Nanba's recreational facilities. She was sure to love it there.
"Wow, this is amazing!"
She ran out front, stopping just short of the water. I watched as she looked around with a happy smile on her face.
"Hey, is this it?" she asked excitedly.
"No, I came here to drop something off. This is just the building I supervise."
"Hey, can we stay here?"
"Well, I don't see why not-"
"Great, thanks!"
I sat down on a nearby bench as she looked at the various bridges and gardens. I spent everyday here so I didn't really understand why she got so excited but I was glad.
I was glad that she liked it. Her smile was enough to light up a whole room. She was contagious. Nobody could ever feel sad or isolated when she was around.
I put my arm over my eyes and savoured the peacefulness of it all. Things like this rarely came around so I had better take advantage of it.
"Hey Samon."
I opened my eyes, only to jump back out of surprise. She was staring at me with wide, curious eyes but her face was only an inch away from mine.
"Geez, what's wrong?"
"Are you tired?" she asked.
"Why do you ask?"
"Well, I tend to tire people out. My friends all say that my light drains the energy from everyone..."
She had sat down beside me but her eyes were gazing at the pond. They had a melancholic look as she continued to think deeply.
"Then they're clearly not your friends at all. If they claim that you tire them out, they're simply people that don't know the real you."
"...I hope you're right."
"Just think of it this way: Uno and his friends wouldn't have been happy to see you if you were what your friends say you are."
"Then what do you think about me?"
"*blushes slightly* T-that's..."
I felt my heartbeat increase as she turned her head to look at me. Damn it, how was she so innocent? I just couldn't help but look away as she tilted her head to the side. I didn't know how to behave...
"Hmm, you don't have to answer if it makes you uncomfortable," she exclaimed with a grin.
"I'm sorry if this sounds like I'm trying to flirt with you but you're like a star. It's true that you can bring a smile to anyone's face but not one that tires someone out from smiling too much. It's like...a motivation, I think."
She wasn't saying anything. I began worrying that I may have said something wrong but what happened next shocked the life out of me. She started crying out loud.
"S-sorry! Did I say something wrong? I-I'm sorry I didn't mean to-"
"N-no, it's not that."
"Then what is it?"
"That made me so happy! Thank you, Samon!"
She smiled through her tears before pulling me into a tight hug. She was still sobbing lightly.
"Oi, calm down."
"Sorry."
I smiled at her as she wiped her tears away with her sleeve. Geez, she was too cute...
