《Anime/Webtoon Oneshots》Ancient Feelings (Zero Kiryu x reader)

Anime: Vampire Knight
(Y/n)'s POV
The moon shone down on the garden, creating an enigmatic glow within its sanctuary. A light breeze blew past, rustling the leaves and tickling the soft grass beneath me.
I remained levitated a metre above the ground, my legs crossed and eyes closed. My surroundings were visible within my mind as I concentrated on the flow of energy around me.
Everything was peaceful and tranquil. The silence of the night was the best time of day and nothing would ever change that for me...or at least I hoped nothing ever would.
A bullet whizzed past the trees and towards my heart. It stopped a few millimetres away from my body before dropped to the ground. I opened my eyes to see Zero staring back at me with a blank expression.
"Go back to your dorm," he ordered.
"If you would take your leave, that'll be very much appreciated."
"Well, sorry for disturbing your peace, 'your highness'. Go back inside before one of the Day Class students see you."
"Day Class students? I'm sure they wouldn't dare to venture outside if the Disciplinary Committee is fulfilling their duties with the utmost effort."
"*sigh* I can't argue with you there, (Y/n) but you have to go back inside."
I stared at him as he walked towards me and lifted me into his arms. I stopped my levitation and saw no stress visible on his face, which was relieving to know.
I leaned my head against his chest as I began to feel my eyelids grow heavy. Without warning, he jumped up to my open window and headed inside, making me clutch onto his shirt.
"Come on, your highness. Don't fall asleep on me," he exclaimed.
"I'm terribly sorry-"
"Geez, what era did you live in? Learn how to speak colloquially."

"...I'm sorry," I whispered quietly.
He put me down on my bed before pulling the blanket over my body.
"I didn't mean to make you upset."
"I'm aware of that, Zero. I apologise for my formal speech."
"*sigh* Don't worry, it's not your fault that you were raised by an ancient old man."
"...hey Zero?"
"Yeah?"
"Why do you not despise me? I'm a vampire, am I not?"
"Do I really have to answer that question?"
"Well, I wouldn't have asked if I didn't want an answer...but no, if you feel uncomfortable with answering then don't force yourself for my sake."
"...okay, get some rest. I'll see you later."
I simply nodded and watched as he left my room. As sleep overtook me, I couldn't help but dwell on the words he had said. Was my speech so embarrassingly formal that he had to ask me to stop?...
~Some time later~
I stared out the window as the teacher began explaining the boring concepts of some scientific research. Class was honestly the least of my worries right now. If I had no problem memorising alchemy in an ancient language, then surely science couldn't be any harder than that.
As I used telekinesis to write the answers in my book, Rima pointed to her book too. I acquiesced to her wish. She smiled happily as she could now use both hands to eat her pocky.
A small smile played at my lips but that soon changed into a stoic frown. The teacher had yelled out my name and ordered me to stand up. I did so without complaint.
"Why were you smiling? And how many times do I have to tell you not to use telekinesis?! Your hands will get lazy!" he exclaimed angrily.
"I'm sorry, sir. Please forgive me for my incompetent behaviour. I assure you, this won't happen again."

"Good answer, Miss...but I'm afraid you did not provide an explanation as to why you were smiling."
"...I found Rima's actions cute."
"Cute? Are you serious?"
"Yes, I am."
"And you're not lying to me?"
"No sir, the thought has never occurred to me."
A knock on the door interrupted the lesson and thankfully, my conversation with the teacher. He went to the door and opened it before he was roughly pushed to the side.
My eyes widened as realisation dawned on me. These people were here to hunt me down. I was the last student of my ancient wizard professor and they were here to steal his secrets.
"(L/n) (Y/n), correct? You are under arrest for harbouring some of the most dangerous magics passed down in history," one of them said.
"I'm terribly sorry but I cannot follow your illogical commands. I do not intend to give up my rights as his last student."
"Then we'll just have to take you by force."
"Please, be my guest."
I immediately jumped out the window and landed softly on the path before using my power to close and lock all the windows. They effortlessly broke the glass and began chasing after me.
I unrooted small plants and trees in order to block their path but they were too quick and agile. I levitated just a few feet off the ground and flew, trying to gain some distance from my pursuers.
Unexpectedly, I bumped into someone's body, only to have their arms wrap around my waist as they steadied me. I looked up to see Zero staring down at me with a quizzical expression but I did not have time to answer his questions.
"Zero, release that vampire. She's a criminal."
"Tell me what's going on first. Why is the Vampire Hunter's Association chasing after her?" he asked while keeping a tight grip on my body.
"Unfortunately, an ancient magic has fallen into the hands of that girl. She is to be taken back to headquarters, where her execution will be carried out."
"Execution?! You guys are insane. That ancient magic belongs to her. You have no right to take it away from her."
"Zero, why are you defending a vampire? Don't you despise them?"
"(Y/n)'s not like those blood-sucking monsters."
"Zero, take her and go."
"B-but Toga, that girl-"
"Zero, go...before I regret my decision."
Zero took my hand without a second thought as we began making our way away from the humans that wished to kill me. I quickly muttered a spell under my breath, teleporting us to a secluded area in town.
I was pushed up against the wall as Zero grabbed onto me and sunk his fangs into my neck. I looked at his shoulder and noticed a gunshot wound.
My heart pained at the sight of him getting hurt. I did nothing to resist him as he continued to drain my blood even though I knew that it could not satisfy him for a long time.
He pulled his fangs out before smashing his lips against mine. My eyes widened in surprise as he leaned in, making me hesitantly kiss back. My heart pounded ferociously in my chest as he pulled away and stared down at me.
"Don't ever make me worry like that again," he said.
"Zero-"
"I...was afraid I'd lose you to them. I-I love you, so please don't leave my side. I don't want anyone else to leave my side again..."
He buried his face in my neck. His warm tears flowed onto my shoulder as I pulled him into a tight hug.
"Don't worry, Zero. I would never leave you for my own sake. I...love you too."

Cinder Roots (Undergoing a Rewrite)
This novel is currently undergoing a major rewrite, as I noticed several plot points that needed to be revamped. I'll leave the chapters I've posted here to anyone curious to see how everything started, but I'll be posting the rewritten story as a new novel in the future. The characters will be the same, but the journey will be more understandable and hopefully, a lot more fun to read. -------- First, everything was fire, it killed, it consumed, and it gave him life. He was just a tree, born in the biggest forest that remained in the world, full of dryads, naiads, elves and treants, but he was alone. He couldn’t see. He couldn’t talk. Curiosity plagued him. He dreamed of wandering the land, but could only wonder what stood outside the reach of his roots. The tree was tired of waiting. He decided to not just dream, but to act. How could he survive against a invading empire, a grand conspiracy that threatened to shake the foundations of the world, and the raw danger that lies within these woods? With pure determination. Warning - There are quite a few POV changes in the first chapters, but that'll change after the introduction is done, as I'll be focusing on the MC perspective only.
