(Y/n)'s POV
The sun seemed to take pleasure in my suffering, looking down on me with such a bright smile...while I was stuck, alone and injured in the middle of a vast desert.
My memories were fuzzy and seemed to be lost. I remembered nothing but my name and magic. There was one thing that I did want to know...why. Why was I here? Why did I forget everything?
Water...I needed water. Was that an oasis? I must be hallucinating. The heat was messing with my mind, confusing me with its merciless tricks. I had to find a way to a city...
"Oi guys, I found something!"
I could barely keep my eyes open to see who the voice had come from. Suddenly, someone lifted me up into a sitting position while shielding me from the hot rays of the sun.
"She needs water," I heard him say.
"Juvia's on it."
I felt the cool flow of water down my throat before coughing. I quickly sat up and squinted my eyes. That water tasted disgusting. What the hell did they give me?
"Juvia, what did you give her?!" a raven-haired boy asked.
"Juvia just gave her water...from here," she replied while showing water dripping from her armpit.
"Juvia, she needs help. You can't be messing around."
"But she's Juvia's love rival!"
"Is she alright?" asked a scarlet-haired girl.
"She's injured. I think we should take her back to the guild."
"Okay, let's go," she said.
"Wait, let Natsu carry her. Juvia doesn't want a love rival."
"*sigh* Whatever."
A pink-haired boy picked me up and began walking away. The others all followed in silence, as if it was a hassle to even talk in this feverish heat.

I opened my eyes and looked around. All that was visible to the eye was sand and more sand. How did they find me? Why were they here? They seemed to be good people but I couldn't help but be wary of them.
"She's sweating a lot," commented a blonde girl.
"Lucy, I think we all are," replied the scarlet-haired girl.
"No, she looks like she has a fever. Natsu, can't you like turn off that immense heat coming off your body or something?"
"Hey, it's not like I can control my body heat," he replied with a pout.
"Then let me carry her. I'll cool her down," exclaimed the raven-haired mage.
The scarlet-haired girl knocked out the girl who spoke in third person before lifting her up over her shoulder. She must be jealous...was the raven-haired mage her boyfriend?
I was passed into his arms. He was right...was he an ice mage? No wonder his body was so cool... If I had said that out loud, would it have sounded strange?
"I'm Gray."
"(Y/n)..."
"Hey, why were you out here?"
"I...don't remember."
"You don't remember anything?"
"No..."
"Hmm, then what magic do you have?"
"Light and shadow make...I think."
"That's cool. I have ice make."
"You seem to have a lot more magic power though."
"Oh, I have ice demon slaying magic too."
"I...see..."
"Hey, you tired? Wait until we get back to the guild. We'll get Mira to treat you."
"...why are you helping me?"
"Is that something you really need to ask? It's common sense to help someone who needs it."
I could only stare at him with wide eyes before smiling. He was kinder than I thought. The warmth in his eyes...it was hard to ignore.

Gray's POV
Damn...she looked too cute staring at me like that. *blush* I managed to look away from her gaze and just stared at the city that was coming into view.
Her body shifted slightly in my arms. Her eyes were on the city, her gaze serious and intense. I couldn't tell what she was thinking but it was probably better not to ask. I didn't want to come off as nosy.
"Is that...where your guild is?" she asked quietly.
"No, we have to pass this city to get to Magnolia. That's where our guild is."
"Oh..."
"Do you want to join?"
"I-"
"Omg, is that the princess?! They found the princess!"
Crowds of people blocked our way as they all came to look at 'the princess', who seemed to be (Y/n). She looked just as flustered as I was and buried her face in my chest, clearly uncomfortable with all the attention.
"Move, she needs help."
"The king and queen will be so delighted that you found their only daughter. She was missing for days! Her arranged marriage with the prince won't be postponed!"
"What? Arranged marriage?"
~Some time later~
I paced back and forth outside (Y/n)'s room, trying to think things over. Natsu and the others were shown to guest rooms but (Y/n) had asked me to stay. Unfortunately, her guards didn't let me through.
So she was a princess...ugh, I didn't even know. She was an important person. Who was I to think I could be friends with someone like her? Her parents seemed to disapprove of me.
"No, Miss (Y/n). Your father has clear orders-"
"I don't care. My memory fails to do as I ask and therefore, do not remember you nor anyone else. I see no point in catering to a stranger's wishes."
"How dare you! Your father's the king and he has said that you cannot see him!"
"You cannot control me."
The door opened. I tried not to stare but she looked beautiful. I had no idea that she was so pretty under all that grime and dirt. Her maid followed her outside, giving me a dirty glare while doing so.
"Young mistress, I suggest you listen to my words."
"Will you stop calling me that? I'm just (Y/n), not a princess."
I stopped the maid before she could slap her and pulled (Y/n) behind me.
"I thought you were supposed to follow your mistress's orders."
"I am not her maid. My loyalty lies with the king. She is just a selfish young girl who does not understand the duties of a princess."
"She's royalty, is she not? I doubt someone who behaves like a nagging woman can scold a princess."
"A princess?! Every girl wishes to be a princess and yet, this girl does not! Does that sound like royalty to you?!"
"G-Gray, that's enough. Let's go."
I felt her hand grab mine as we made our way down the palace with the two guards chasing us. I covered the floor with ice before picking (Y/n) up. She let out a small scream as I jumped out the window.
"Capture him! He's kidnapping the princess!"
"Oi Gray! Hurry up!" Natsu yelled.
"A little help would be appreciated!"
"Shadow-make mist," (Y/n) whispered.
Black fog seemed to come from every direction, clouding everyone's vision. I put (Y/n) down as soon as we reached the ground, letting her run beside me.
"Don't worry, (Y/n). We're getting you out of this prison."
"*grins* I'm counting on it."

Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.
