Anime: Attack on Titan
(Y/n)'s POV
Glaring at the man in front of me, my fingers wrapped around the small knife tucked away in my belt. His sharp eyes did nothing to quell the anger inside me nor did it amplify my nonexistent fear.
"What sort of amateurish skills can you boast, huh? You skip training, laze around on the veranda and say you're 'just having a break 'cause you think this is too easy'?" asked Levi.
"Yeah, so what?"
"You're picking the wrong person to start a fight with, (Y/n)."
"Oh? We'll see about that. Have you ever seen me train before?"
"Not in detail but-"
"My point exactly."
"Because you're always doing nothing when I'm here!"
"So? Are you gonna keep arguing about it or are you gonna be a good boy and leave me alone?"
"Tch."
He wasted no time with his punch. I dodged it effortlessly and swiftly counterattacked with my knife...the one I had used to defend myself from my deceased parents.
His hand-to-hand combat was, by no means, child's play. My respect for him was beginning to grow. His personality was annoying as hell but I couldn't just label him as an irritating captain.
He...had been the one to save me from the darkness. When nothing but loneliness kept me company, he was there. When my parents threatened to kill my twin brother, he was there. When I was drowning in sorrow, he was there. He was always there...
Forcing myself back into the present, I barely managed to dodge his roundhouse kick. Blocking his punch, I kneed him in the stomach but he showed no signs of pain.
Knocking my legs, he flipped me onto my back but while he thought he had won, I immediately pulled his arm and turned us over so that I was on top.

"Never let your guard down, Levi."
"I could say the same to you."
He had a gun aimed at my temple. How did I not realise this?...This man was a monster. I couldn't win against him, not now and not ever. It just wasn't possible.
I gasped in surprise when he pushed me off and sat up with his hand rubbing the back of his neck. He smirked when I glared at him but there was no mockery in his eyes, only pure humour and a concealed kindness.
"I think I might've given you a bruise or two when fighting so be careful," he exclaimed.
"*sigh* Of course you did. You never know when to hold back."
"I-"
"Oi Levi, (Y/n)! There's a big storm coming. You two better come inside!" Hange yelled.
I found myself being pulled to my feet as Levi dragged me inside despite the fact that I could've walked on my own. Everyone turned their eyes towards us as Levi continued to drag me to a table.
"Yo," I greeted.
"What now? Has Levi become your personal servant?" asked Eren.
"More like a nagging mum."
"And yet you still hang with him."
"Yeah, because I pity the lonely thing."
"Are you gonna shut up or do I have to make you?" Levi threatened.
"I choose neither."
"Tch, what an arrogant girl."
"Tch, what an arrogant man."
He rolled his eyes, wanting nothing more to do with this pointless argument. As the chatter began to amplify, the knife twirled around my fingers with an almost ghost-like ability.
Such a small feat was akin to stealing candy from a child. Preferring to use blades rather than live ammunition, I had trained myself to kill my 'parents'. Of course, they were parents only in name.

What was I even doing here? Planning to save humanity? Tch, what a joke. My parents had already made it clear what humanity had to offer...and it was far from perfect.
"(Y/n)," Mikasa said.
She placed a hand on my leg, making my foot stop its endless tapping. I forced a carefree smile, hoping to quell her unnerving suspicion and concern for my wellbeing.
Loud, deafening thunder shook the building as a bright stroke of lightning lit up the sky. I stood up, feeling Mikasa's eyes follow my every move. She didn't say a word as I left the hall and turned into a secluded corridor.
The chatter faded away, leaving only the thunder and pouring rain as the background noise. Sliding down the wall, I leaned my head back and closed my eyes.
Seconds turned into minutes yet it felt like slow, agonising hours. A shadow fell over me, making me reluctantly open my eyes. Levi stood before me, a stoic expression on his face.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
"Taking a nap."
He knelt down in front of me and placed a hand over my forehead.
"You have a slight fever," he exclaimed.
"Oh, really?"
"Are you cold?"
"A little but that's only because of the rain and wind."
"Tch, still won't admit that you're sick. I guess old habits die hard."
"Old habits? I don't have a habit of-"
He leaned in and kissed me, cutting me off mid-sentence. I was confused yet felt compelled to kiss back. Why was my heart beating so fast? Why did it feel as if my cheeks were on fire? As far as I could tell, I've never liked him...in such a way.
He pulled away too soon, making me hate myself for thinking that. Too soon? What the hell was wrong with me? It was too long! I stood up, feeling a little lightheaded and dizzy.
"You better rest," he said but I could barely hear past the thumping in my chest.
"Levi, what was that? Why did you do that?"
"I don't know but it was pretty hard to hold back whenever I saw you. I figured that I may have grown feelings for you despite how much I tried to persuade myself otherwise. You're not exactly the type of person I imagined myself to be with," he replied with a straight face.
"...eh?! Hold on, slow down!"
"What more is there to think about?"
"Say it again."
"What?"
"'Oh (Y/n), I'm desperately in love with you. Please be my girlfriend'," I mimicked, doing my best attempt of using a gruff voice.
"*blush* You clearly have hearing problems. Since when did I talk like such a girl and unless you want to die tonight, I suggest you stop."
"To confess your love then kill the girl? What an...obsessive way to win her over."
"Tch, I'm surprised you still have so much to say despite being sick."
"What can I say? I'm a talented human being."
He pulled me in by my arm and forced his lips onto mine. I held back a gasp and leaned into his body, feeling unsteady from the fever and the tingling sensation in my stomach.
"You've got to stop kissing me out of the blue like that."
"And you've got to stop acting so tough all the time."
"Says you."
"Seems like you need some disciplining."

But the angry ghost trapped inside the blade has other ideas. Buckle up for the brutal LitRPG ride of a lifetime Savage Hunters is an alternate-world neolothic fantasy. Characters grow their powers with explicit stat blocks presented right in the text, including levels, attribute scores, and unlockable skill trees. Experience is accumulated by battling enormous monsters the size of buildings. Political intrigue and romance elements ramp up as the series progresses. I originally wrote this story after playing Monster Hunter with my niece. She was 12 at the time, already an avid reader, and wanted to read my other published books. I'm a licensed psychotherapist specializing in severe trauma so I tend toward darker fiction. I told her my usual books are too brutal for her but I'd write her something special. The result was this series, which has been praised by both teens and adults for its depth and universal appeal. It begins with an emphasis on cultural elements because I consulted with a trained anthropologist to craft this neolithic setting down to exacting social detail. After these opening chapters, it rapidly shifts to an action-packed adventure. The first 3 books are fully written as of November 2020, totalling approximately 69 chapters. The first book has been professionally edited already. The following two books require some editing which I'll do on a chapter-by-chapter basis as releases progress. I welcome reviews and comments. Writing is a passion, and reader engagement makes my labor all the sweeter.
