(Y/n)'s POV
Narrowly avoiding the darts, I landed a little too rough onto my side. Forcing myself to get up, I was suddenly pushed against a tree as Lupin leaned in to kiss me.
His hands cupped my face as he placed a gentle kiss on my nose. I looked away, feeling the heat creep onto my cheeks despite my trying to prevent it. He chuckled at my reaction before lifting my chin up with his finger.
"I needed the energy replenishment," he exclaimed.
"W-well, there are other simpler ways-"
"Come on, just holding your hand with the intention of healing myself is boring. Besides, how else was I to show my affection and gain back some strength? I'd say it's killing two birds with one stone."
*sigh* Him and his weird logic...but that was one of the reasons why I had fallen in love with him. Although sometimes a little silly, he always managed to cheer me up with some odd reasoning.
Unlike my sister, Cardia, my gem could heal. I had always despised myself for it. She was always devoid of interaction due to her poisonous skin...and yet, I had the pleasure to behave as a normal girl. This wasn't fair at all.
Feeling Lupin wrap his strong arms around my body, I soon realised just how much it had hurt. Leaning against his body, I buried my face in his chest. He stroked my hair and whispered softly.
"Do you remember the first time you decided to open up to me?" he asked.
"...yes."
"That was one of the happiest moments of my life."
"Why?"
"Because I love you. That's why...you can tell me anything. Just like how you can heal me, I'll make you feel better whenever you need it."

"...how did you know how I was feeling?"
"You think I wouldn't be able to tell after all the time I've spent together with you? Who do you think I am?"
I managed a small smile. He pulled away to inspect my face so I quickly reassured him of his overwhelming concern for my wellbeing. He grinned upon seeing my smile before pulling me into a kiss.
"Lupin, (Y/n)! Cardia and Saint need help! There are people who want to kidnap Cardia. They have them surrounded," Impey exclaimed.
"Where?" Lupin asked.
"This way."
Lupin immediately found my hand before leading me through the thick forest. We followed Impey down the uneven paths until we could spot people close to the edge of a cliff.
I quickly ran in front of my sister while the others fought the rouge thieves that had surrounded us. Cardia slipped her ungloved hand into mine, needing some sort of reassurance.
"You'll be fine."
"But-"
"We're here to protect you. Don't worry."
As a man headed our way, I quickly unhooked the dagger from my belt and pelted it into his chest. Another came from the other side. Slipping a dart into my hand, I aimed it towards his eyes. His ear-piercing scream reverberated across the clearing.
Feeling a gush of wind rush past, I soon realised that I was too late. The man pushed me over the edge while maintaining a grip on Cardia's arm. I heard her yell as my feet slipped.
Cold air kissed my skin as I fell. Fear coursed through my veins. Swimming had never been one of my strong points. Was I to die from drowning? What a wretched fate I had...
Water surrounded me from all sides, closing off all the air I had left. Feeling the element overtake my body, I reluctantly allowed myself to stop resisting. It was futile...struggling only made it worse. Letting the darkness consume me was...better...

Lupin's POV
"Wait, Lupin! The currents are too strong!" Saint reasoned.
"I'm still going."
Taking off my jacket and hat, I ran towards the edge and jumped off.
"Lupin!"
I needed to save (Y/n). She was the only light in this world of darkness. Without light, there would be nothing to guide me. She didn't deserve to die now, not before I could pass.
Diving into the recklessness of the waves, I looked around for her. A flash of her (h/c) hair or her pearl-coloured blouse. Anything...please...
Catching a glimpse of her figure a few metres below, I immediately swam towards her. Grabbing a hold of her arm, I began to head for the surface. To my dismay, the current broke my hold on her.
Using whatever willpower I had left, I swam towards her and pulled her into my arms. My chest was hurting and my vision was blurred. I needed air...
Touching (Y/n)'s face, I felt my body full of strength again. I wasted no time and headed for the surface. Gasping for air, I took in big breaths while keeping (Y/n)'s head above the water.
She coughed heavily once she had air in her lungs. Relief flooded my mind. Thank god she was alive...I hadn't come too late. She looked around, seemingly trying to remember why she was leaning against me in the vast ocean.
"L-Lupin-"
I kissed her. Tears slid down my face but I couldn't care less. It was already wet so I doubted she could tell them apart from the water droplets.
"Don't ever get into such a dangerous situation again."
"...I'm sorry for worrying you..." she apologised softly.
"Lupin!"
I turned my head to look at the shore. Fran and Impey stood waving their arms. Impey soon jumped into the water and began swimming towards us. He offered to help take (Y/n) back. As exhausted as I was, I passed (Y/n) over despite the slight jealousy pricking at my heart.
~Some time later~
I opened my eyes. (Y/n) lay asleep next to me, snuggled up to my side. I smiled, finding this cute. I put an arm over my eyes and sighed shakily. The darkness could've stolen her...
If it ever did, I wouldn't ever be able to forgive myself. My life depended on her being alive and well. Her death was my poison and her sorrow my guilt. I could never allow her to feel any darkness...
The door to my room opened slightly. Van and Fran gestured towards the food in their hands. I smiled and nodded. They placed it on the table. I reached over (Y/n)'s body to grab a sandwich only to find that she had woken up and was staring at me.
Blushing, I awkwardly retracted my arm with the sandwich in my hand. Van burst into laughter, making (Y/n) jump for she did not realise that we had company.
"You two are cute together," Fran commented.
"Of course we are."
I smirked, knowing that this made (Y/n) blush. I loved her...

For Grass and Glory
Being old is difficult. But losing the love of your life to natural selection and being left in the dirt is even harder. Join Walton in his final journey as he figures out if his principals are just as important when there is nothing left to lose. Combating hypocrisy, youth, bad diet practises and a general lack of respect towards humanity, Walton's struggles are the true adventure of the everyday man. A story about unlikely friendship, being old, unexpected beauty, and the obsession of kicking a round leather ball in the best way possible. A story about a new world, and its possibilities. A story about the grass, and let us hope, a small bit of glory? Author note: This is a project of mine I started in 2016 and recently been writing for again. Writing for me is something I love to do, but can't always find the time for. This is also the reason I have not finished (or come close to) Ethereal Space yet. I get distracted. I started this novel intending to create something else, to break a bit with the current go to's story wise in the litRPG or virtual reality communities. So, this is my attempt at "Something different" I would love feedback or just your general opinion. But most of all, I hope it entertains. Enjoy!

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Dwarf While Trapped in a Dungeon Full of Spiders
Thousands of years ago, mankind would honor their dead and their journey to the afterlife through the process of mummification. The elaborate tombs and burial rituals marked our transition from hunter-gatherers to civilizations and empires. However, it's been over 500 years since we've sent tributes to the underworld, and now the underworld, or whatever lies beyond, has decided to send something back. Authors Note- This story is inspired by DnD, Dark Souls, Guild Wars 1, and my love of eldritch horror and dark creepy dungeons. Also completed doesn't mean end of the line. There is more Mike Sammons in the future, promise.
