Anime: Vampire Knight

(Y/n)'s POV

Wiping the blood off my mouth, I swiftly dodged the rouge vampire's punch as he stumbled over his own feet. Taking this chance, I increased my speed and kicked his jaw, sending his body flying back.

He collapsed against the trees, unable to move. Aiming a gun at his head, I pulled the trigger without any hesitation. His sanity had left him in the hands of desperation and hell. Nothing but death would be able to save him.

"(Y/n), it seems that you still refuse to use your powers," commented Kaname.

"That's none of your business."

"Your father was a pureblood, your mother a noble. Why do you not take advantage of your abilities?"

"I see no reason to expose myself to the murderer of my parents."

"I simply relieved you of your pain."

"My parents were indeed the cause of some tragic incidents, which resulted in bothersome protests but they were loving and selfless. You don't know the reasons that justified their actions."

"I'm sorry if my actions have displeased you. I was thinking of..."

"The best outcome for everyone? Don't meddle in others' businesses unless you have every right to."

"Do you still despise me?"

"...yes, I hate you with a passion."

Turning away from the pureblood vampire, I glanced up at the girl who had arrived at the scene of our insignificant conversation. Yuki stood wide-eyed as I walked past without another word.

"Kaname-senpai did nothing wrong. He was only trying to help..." she whispered.

"Don't talk as if you know everything."

I jumped up into the open window and left their view as I walked towards my room in the Night Dorms. Greeting Hanabusa with a small smile, I headed inside.

He followed me, which I honestly couldn't care less about. Zero was resting against the wall by the window, his gaze on the scenery outside.

"I wanted to warn you before you came inside," Hanabusa exclaimed.

"*sigh* Don't worry about it. I'm gonna go take a shower."

"Hmph, whatever. I'll be back later."

Grabbing spare clothes from the closet, I went inside the bathroom, ignoring the light-haired vampire's gaze as I closed the door. Collapsing to my knees, I leaned my head back and willed the tears to disappear.

That conversation with Kaname had brought back memories I had wanted to forget, memories that were to remain hidden forever. Closing my eyes, I allowed time to calm down my sorrow and irritation.

Seconds turned into minutes and I hadn't moved from my spot. A quiet knock on the door brought me back to reality as I listened to the male's voice on the other side of the door.

"(Y/n), if there's anything you want to talk about, I'm here. There's no need to keep your feelings bottled up inside," Zero exclaimed.

"...I'm fine."

"If you're worried about me, then there's no need. I can handle any amount of pain you throw at me."

I smiled slightly, feeling a small spark in my heart. It was wrong of me to ever love him. He didn't deserve another blood-sucking monster...I didn't want to become his burden. He didn't need another.

Gathering up some courage, I opened the door, meeting his surprised gaze. He immediately pulled me into a hug, his face buried in my hair. I hesitantly allowed myself to relax in his embrace.

"What happened?" he asked.

"Kaname..."

"Don't think about him."

"...why do you always ask for impossibilities?..."

"Because I can make you forget."

"Another...impossibility."

"(Y/n), I love you...so let me help you."

I tried pulling away but his hold on my body only tightened. We stayed like this for a while longer, simply craving the feeling of being by each other's side.

He let go, much to my disappointment. My eyes widened as he lifted my chin up and pressed his lips against mine. He leaned in, indirectly making me kiss back.

I felt my legs weaken, having to lean against his body. He pulled away, his eyes searching for some sign of compliance to his question. A smile graced my face as I brought my lips to his.

"Someone's a bit desperate," commented Zero.

"*blush* Says you."

"I love you," he said, this time more definitive.

"I love you too."

A knock on the door made me reluctantly pull away from his arms. But before I got the chance to answer, Yuki swung the door open and aimed a vampire hunter's gun at my heart.

"I can't forgive you," she exclaimed angrily.

"For what? Hating your beloved Kaname?"

"Your selfish thinking has caused everyone grief. I can't stand it. Your parents were uncivilised scum."

That sentence alone made my blood boil. What right did she have to criticise my family? She had no idea what we went through and now she claimed that my household was a family of lowlifes?

Zero's POV

I kicked the gun out of Yuki's hand, sending it skidding across the floor. She gasped in shock but before I could grab her, Kaname appeared and sent a table flying towards me.

My eyes glowed red as I dodged the incoming table. A vase hit my arm, piercing my skin with its broken porcelain pieces. A surge of light uncomfortably hot surrounded the room as (Y/n) walked towards Kaname.

A glowingly hot orb floated in her hand as she neared the two who had intruded. Yuki glared at her in order to hide the fear showing through her seemingly 'oh-so-righteous' persona.

"You can't possibly think of killing me, can you? Your reputation will be stained with even more bloodshed than ever if you kill an innocent girl," Yuki reasoned.

"'Innocent girl'? Give me a break. You hurt another close to me again and next time, I'll make sure you're dead," (Y/n) threatened.

"Kaname-senpai'll be there to protect me."

"Not if I kill him first."

She pushed the orb into his body. He immediately collapsed, his eyes closed and his limbs immobile. Yuki screamed as she realised what had just happened.

(Y/n) grabbed my hand and dragged me towards the window. She jumped down but lost consciousness. I quickly caught her and landed swiftly on my feet.

Leaning her against a tree, I noticed that she was still breathing. Relief overtook my body as I collapsed beside her. Her power took her own energy and turned it into light...no wonder she didn't like using it.

I felt my thirst trying to push me to my limits but I held back for fear that I might hurt the girl I loved...but it was futile. I hesitantly reached over her and sunk my fangs into her neck despite the tears sliding down my cheeks.

"Z-Zero..."

She tilted her head back, which simply made me all the more guilty. This relationship...would've been impossible without her. I needed her, I loved her.
