(A/N): I'm terribly sorry if I get his personality wrong. I don't exactly know what he's like but I hope you like it.
(Y/n)'s POV
Raindrops hit the window like a bullet shattering glass. The moon could no longer be seen in this harsh storm, with the clouds viciously hiding the only source of light in this time of darkness.
Feeling the cold surface of my necklace beneath my fingers, I closed my eyes, wishing desperately that he would come back soon. Mari (your daughter) had been asking for her father yet I could only relieve her worry with false hope.
Toshi (your son) had become harder to deal with but the worry that lay beneath his tough facade was something not many could catch with a mere glance.
The dull sound of the clock's ticking hands did little to alleviate the irritation growing in me. I knew of his responsibilities and of his...other families, but his being away for an extended period of time made me incredibly anxious.
Without warning, the door to my bedroom swung open. Karl met my gaze, his one cold and stoic. I stood up, feeling my feet move of their own accord until we stood half a metre apart.
"You're back awfully late."
"I had business to do-"
"Even so, you promised that it would not take any longer than two weeks and it has been a month! You rarely call and-"
He pulled me in by the waist before locking my lips in a passionate kiss. I tried pushing him away but his grip on my body only tightened as he deepened the kiss.
I reluctantly kissed back, realising the fact that I had desperately missed him beneath all the anger and sorrow. He pulled away but his arms remained around my waist as he took in my face.

"You're an awful husband."
"Yet despite saying that, you're still here."
"Dad?"
Mari and Toshi stood by the door, her face scrunched up in attempt to hold back her tears while his was irritated yet relieved. Karl let me go to pull our daughter into a hug as Toshi came to my side.
"Oi old man, you already apologised to mum, right?" he asked.
"Must I do everything you say?" Karl replied.
"She's been hurting, you know that. So has Mari."
"What about you?"
"Tch, why would I miss a father that rarely visits his family?"
"What a troublesome son..."
"And who's fault is that?"
"Your half-brothers have snuck into the mansion without my permission...again."
"Ayato and the others?"
"Really?! Come on, Toshi-nii, let's go play," Mari exclaimed excitedly before dragging her brother away.
Karl shut the door before lifting me up and onto my bed. I gasped as he sunk his fangs into my neck, taking no mercy on me as he drank and drank.
Seeming to notice my distress, he stopped, licking the blood around his lips. I immediately pushed him down to get my share, which he didn't seem to mind.
Although vampire blood wasn't as satisfying human blood, it was enough for me. I pulled away but Karl pulled me onto his chest. I didn't bother resisting.
"...you're leaving again, aren't you?"
"I'm a busy person," he replied.
"This time, don't make empty promises and try to come back earlier."
"Alright."
No one's POV
As (Y/n) and Karl fell asleep in each other's arms, Mari and Toshi had secretly headed to the Sakamaki mansion with their half-brothers. Their thoughts were filled with nothing but great plans.
"Remind me again why I'm helping you two organise a wedding anniversary for your parents?" Ayato said.

"Because I asked you to," replied Mari, "And you can't deny a request from your little sister."
"Tch."
"Have you guys got the presents?" Toshi asked.
"*sigh* You two really are nothing but slave drivers..." Reiji commented.
"They're here," answered Subaru.
"Great. We can start decorating the place! Oh and don't forget the cake!" Mari exclaimed, a tad too excited for an event that vampires rarely took to heart.
"Is that all you can ever think about? Just cake?" asked Toshi.
"But cake's delicious. Kanato-chan agrees, don't you?"
"I suppose so, Mari-chan," the purple-haired vampire replied.
~Some time later~
The eight vampires stood back to admire their handiwork. Red roses decorated the walls as the white roses complimented the golden chandeliers installed in the living room.
A three-tier (f/f) cake stood to the side on a vibrantly coloured table full of sweets and other refreshments. The soft carpet beneath their feet was enough to make one want to lay down and sleep.
"Should we call them over now?" Mari asked.
"Sure thing, Mari-chan," replied Laito.
Toshi fetched his phone from his pocket before dialling his father's number. The stoic vampire picked up on the third ring, his voice hinting towards irritation and exhaustion.
"What is it now, Toshi?"
"M-Mari...she's dying! I- we don't know what to do. A vampire hunter shot her in the stomach and she's not healing. A lot of blood-"
"What?! We'll be there soon."
The others stared at the dark-haired male with surprised looks as he hung up.
"Have you ever considered becoming an actor in the future?" Shuu asked.
"Too much work," Toshi replied.
"They're here," Ayato exclaimed.
The doors opened, yet the eight vampires had already teleported away. (Y/n) and Karl stood shock still as they took in the scene before them. (Y/n) was the first to break the silence.
"Did you...do this?" she asked.
"I..."
Say yes, dad. Mum needs you more than anything. Don't forget, you have to repay us later. Love you.
'That girl...' Karl thought to himself.
"I wanted to do one more thing before I left," he stated.
"You remembered our wedding anniversary..."
"Of course. The kids have been constantly reminding me of how much it meant to you."
"Thank you...I love you."
Streamers fell over the couple, no doubt surprising the two as the kids came out. Mari immediately ran into her mum's arms and whispered a happy anniversary as Toshi stood with their presents in his hands.
"Here," he said, handing them the two delicately wrapped boxes.
Inside both boxes were heart-shaped lockets with small diamonds attached to the front, hanging on silver chains.
"Thank you all so much," (Y/n) exclaimed happily.
"The other six of you should come out now. It's no doubt gonna creep my parents out if you just stay in the shadows and watch them like stalkers," stated Toshi.
Karl cracked the tiniest of smiles once he saw the content look on his wife's face.

Journeys in the Fairworld: The Gatekeeper
Lindsey Fluger was only slightly past eighteen. There was nothing particularly special about her, save that she happened to be the right person at the right time. When Lindsey is asked to join an expedition to another world she makes the mistake of saying yes, plunging herself into a sea of perilous adventure and dark intrigue. Journeys in the Fairworld is a fantasy anthology series set in The Fairworld, a magical realm existing in parallel with our own world which is governed by a group elfin beings known only as “The Good Folk”. These mysterious entities work in secret to keep the peace between the myriad of peoples and nations which dwell in The Fairworld. Complex relationships and bitter rivalries emerge against a backdrop of constrained resources and conflicting values to produce a world of high adventure and tangled mysteries. This novel is technically already completed, and I am currently in the final stages of proofing or editing. As such, there may be a few typos and errors here and there. The final version should be about 130,000 words long, which I will be releasing in stages as I continue editing. I'd love to hear your feedback and comments! But the truth is that her downfall might be something much closer to home than their prophecies, those last dregs of mortality beating inside her own chest.
