(Y/n)'s POV
Ignoring these strangers, I found myself hugging my knees and burying my head. Contact with the outside world...was my mission and my nightmare but I was to reveal this...to no one...save for one.
I did not know happiness nor sadness, only obedience and loneliness. Life had not taught me much and I didn't expect much from anything. I was to obey my master's commands. There was nothing I could question, and so, this became my life's purpose.
"Hey, you may not want to talk to us but at least have some food. You were found outside the walls and um...well...you must be terrified-"
"I do not need your food."
The brown-haired boy frowned as I backed away. The fence surrounding the garden caught my black jacket as if trying to keep me trapped within this endless pit of nothingness. Life was meaningless...I wanted nothing and expected nothing.
"You have to eat," he said as he held out a piece of bread.
"I do not need your food. I thought I already-"
"Eren's being nice and trying to keep your sorry ass alive so eat it," ordered a black-haired girl.
"I don't need it."
"You'll be begging us for it sooner or later."
"I doubt it."
"Eat."
She took the bread from the boy named Eren. I caught her arm before she could force feed the bread to me and flipped her over onto her back. I jumped just as she swung her legs in an attempt to trip me.
Her eyes glinted with determination under the luminous moonlight as she stood up and charged towards me. Her hits were strong, unusually strong for a mere human but I exerted little effort to block them.

Backhanding her, I caught her as soon as she fell, her consciousness already slipping away. I put her in Eren's arms and picked up the bread from the cold, dirty ground. Putting it in the unconscious girl's hands, I returned to my spot near the fence and waited.
"Did...she just take out Mikasa?" asked another male.
"You're kidding...right?"
"Someone go get Captain Levi. We can't just let her stay here like this."
I pulled my jacket on tighter, wishing that I could be seen as more than an interesting exhibition. Although human, I lacked extensive emotions and harboured no desire nor love for anything.
My master had once stated that I was perhaps more like an obedient puppet, a slave to their cruel desires. Yet, I couldn't find the need to care nor question it. Their command...was my life.
A short yet intimidating man stood before me, his stoic expression turning into one of annoyance as he looked at my sitting figure. Was this the man in charge? I immediately took out a small case and held it out to him.
"What's this?" he asked.
"The spinal fluid of the titans. I was told to give this to a high official in exchange for information."
"Come. We can't talk here."
I hesitantly stood up after swiftly dodging the incoming knives. Catching all three in my hand, I looked towards my attacker. The woman who had thrown them was the one who found me.
"Hange, you really need to start believing in my team."
"But Levi, I wanted to see the girl's skills for myself. She really could take Mikasa out with her-"
"Are you done?"
The man known as Levi took a hold of my arm and dragged me away from her. Entering the small house, I noticed that it was indeed very plain. There was nothing suspicious about it, but the best way to hide...was in plain sight.

"So? How did you get your hands on that?" he asked as he pushed a bowl of soup in front of me.
I sat down in front of him, staring at the food. Putting the case on the table, I secured the three knives to my belt for later use if needed. That woman wouldn't be getting them back any time soon.
"The soup isn't poisoned," he exclaimed.
"I don't need to eat."
"I'm not giving this to you to keep you alive. It was simply common courtesy."
"...is that so?"
I took the spoon and brought the soup to my lips. An explosion of flavour burst in my mouth as I drank the rest, silent tears forcing their way down my cheeks.
Levi's POV
What a strange girl. Refusing food one minute and gulping it down like it was her last meal the next...
"I take it you've only had bland bread and water as your diet," exclaimed the man as he fetched another bowl from the pot on the stove.
"Yes, I did not need anything else."
"My name's Levi. What's yours?"
"Specimen no.56, but I remember...my name is (Y/n)."
"'Specimen'?"
"I'm a human with artificially enhanced abilities, such as stamina and strength. That is why I can last longer without food or water and also...why I beat that girl named Mikasa."
"So what? You were made in a lab?"
"...no, I was stolen from my parents and experimented on in a lab but I cannot tell you any more. I have come here with only one mission: to learn about your world."
"And you're giving me this injection for that information..."
She nodded before hesitantly pushing the bowl towards me. Sighing, I put the whole pot down in front of her before returning to my seat. She thanked me before eagerly consuming its contents.
"Oi (Y/n)."
Her body tensed slightly, but I could tell that she was listening. She had to get used to being addressed as (Y/n) instead of specimen no.56. She couldn't gather information if she couldn't adjust to our life.
"Do you remember anything about your past?"
"No," was her only reply.
"Do you want to find out?"
"No."
"What do you gain by doing this?"
"A place to stay."
"You know something about the titans, don't you?"
"So what if I do?"
"Stay by my side."
"Why?"
"I'm the 'high official' that you talked to so it makes sense that I'm the one keeping an eye on you."
She picked up the pot, her (h/c) swaying softly as she stood up and headed to the sink. I headed over and helped with the dishes. She moved slightly to the right but the kitchen was cramped. We had no choice but to touch shoulders.
"They look like newlyweds, don't you think?" I heard Eren comment.
(Y/n) grabbed a fork and flung it towards the male, who had barely managed to dodge it, all the while keeping her eyes on the sink. Seems that there might be others like this girl, perhaps far stronger than I was.
"Eren, you say anything that comes close to that nonsense then you'll get cleaning duty for a whole week."
"Cleaning duty is such a mundane job. I imagine it must be tiresome," (Y/n) exclaimed, which made Eren laugh.
"Tch."
"But it would be a nice change once in a while," she whispered.

The Five Series - redemption
Book 1 - Redemption Three generations have passed since the last near-apocalyptic war. Civilization is beginning to thrive again at an ever increasing pace. The burden of society has been once again placed on the back of a massive robotic workforce, creating a huge divide between industrial glory, and those forced to live in its shadow. Many have stubbornly held onto the old ways of self-governance from back when the government fell, but with its return, life in Welan City is changing. Aaron, a middle-aged man, who is stuck in the rut of daily life, witnesses a murder and finds himself in trouble, love, and the middle of a highly secretive robotics project. Aaron stakes his life on helping a prototype survive, and pays for it dearly. Passionate hate, love, and indifference send life in Welan City spiraling out of control, leaving no one innocent in the end. The Five Series is, well, a series. I've completed 3 of the books so far and will finish with a fourth, maybe fifth book. Book 1 is heavy on the character development side while the following will be much more decision and consequence oriented. This story reaches into the soul of a person and the universe we live in. Some people deserve a second chance, and some do not. With that im mind, no one really ever gets what they deserve though, do they? Always tell the people you care about that you love them as often as you can, they could be gone tomorrow. Would that change if you could always bring them back? I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did writing it. Cody
