《Heartless》40

I woke up in Colby's arms, last nights memories still buzzed in my brain. I laid there, drawing little circles on his chest as he held me. "Colby?" I said tilting my head up to look at him, he hummed signaling to me that he was listening. "Can we get pancakes?" He chuckled, "anything you want baby." I smiled a little, "can everyone come?" He nodded and kissed my forehead, "if they aren't busy." I nodded and snuggled into him more, trying to keep myself from thinking too hard about last night.
I looked over at Colby's hand, it was bruising slightly and there was dried blood crusted to his knuckles. I grabbed his hand and looked closer, "did he hurt you?" I mumbled and he shook his head, "no, not physically." I nodded and kissed his hand before getting out of the bed. I walked to the mirror and sighed, my eyes were puffy and my neck had began to bruise.
"I'll be right back." I mumbled and walked out of the room. I walked to Devyn and Corey's room, knocking on the door. "Come in!" Devyn yelled. She was sat on the floor in front of a mirror, doing her makeup. "Hey!" She said and got up, coming to hug me, "how are you feeling?" I took a deep breath, "I've been better. Can you help me?" She tilted her head. "Can you do my makeup.." I looked down and she chuckled a little, "it would be an honor." She said and gestured for me to sit down. Corey walked in, typing on his phone. "Hey Cora" he said and smiled, "thanks for helping me yesterday." I said and he stood behind me, "I'm glad I could help, I'm sorry it happened." He rubbed my back then walked to the bed, laying down.

By the time Devyn was done I felt like a new person, she had covered the bruises on my neck perfectly and made the bags under my eyes disappear. "We are going to get breakfast if you guys want to come." I got up and they both agreed they would want to come.
I shuffled back to Colby's room, he sat on the bed and looked up at me, "you look beautiful." He said as I walked over and sat next to him, "thanks to Devyn" He shook his head, "you're always beautiful." He grabbed my hand. "I asked the group if they would come get breakfast with us, they are going to meet us there in thirty." I nodded and got up, looking through his closet. "I steal all of your hoodies." I mumbled and he laughed, "that's what girlfriends are supposed to do I think." He walked over to me and wrapped his arms around me, my heart broke when I flinched involuntarily. "I'm sorry." I said as he pulled away, "it's okay, I didn't warn you." He said as I turned around and hugged him. "I'm trying to get over it, I don't want it to effect me.." he wrapped his arms around me and rubbed my back, "it's okay if it effects you, it's horrifying what he did." I released myself from the hug and turned back around, ignoring the emotions that were starting to rise.
"Alright." I said and picked up a pair of sweatpants from his closet and started to get changed. I tried to ignore the pain in my hips as I changed my pants. I still didn't face Colby, I didn't want him to see the faces I was making. I knew he would be comforting but I didn't want to cry anymore. I wanted this horrible chapter to end. Once I was dressed I turned around, "ready?" I said with a smile, he smirked and held his hand out for me to grab. I grabbed it and he led me out of the room and to the car.

When we arrived to the breakfast spot, everyone was there. Colby looked over at me causing me to smile, "you ready?" He looked concerned as I nodded, "I'm ready." We both got out of the car and headed inside. The whole gang was sitting at a long table, everyone was conversing and laughing. I sat next to Kat and she looked over at me smiling, "how you feeling? Did you get any sleep?" I nodded and took a sip of water, "yeah a little bit." Colby looked at me and hovered his hand on my thigh, I had a feeling he didn't want to scare me again. I gave him a reassuring nod as his hand relaxed. I was sitting across from Mike and Kevin, they both gave me a smile as I looked around. "What are going to do today?" Mike asked casually. "Um well I have to work, then I think I'll try to go to the studio..work on some music." His face shifted to a big smile, "you sing?" I nodded happily, "I do too! We should collab sometime." I smiled, "I would love that." Nobody ever really wanted to work with me musically, other than Kat, so this was a big deal to me.
Other casual conversations happened, and nobody brought up last night, which was nice. They all just asked how I was doing. We ate our food and left soon after since I had to work in less than an hour.
"Do you want me to drop you off at work?" Colby said as we entered my apartment, I walked to the bedroom. "It's okay, im going to the studio after work and I have to go grocery shopping..so I'll just drive myself. Thank you though" I looked for my work uniform as Colby stood in the doorway. "Okay, but you know you can call me if you need me right?" I smiled and walked to him, wrapping my arms low around his waist, setting my chin on his chest. "I know." I spoke softly and he looked down, his lips only inches from mine. He smirked and leaned down, kissing me. "And what are you going to do today?" I said and backed away from him once again, changing into my work uniform. "Well I have to edit, so that will take a good chunk of my day, and I think Sam and I are filming something for our channel, so I'll probably be out late. But if you want me to stay here tonight I'll cancel plans with Sam." I bit my lip. "You don't have to cancel your plans with Sam, but can you come here after? I don't want to sleep here alone." This was the first time I really voiced my fear since last night. He nodded, "I'll be here. I promise." I nodded and turned away before my emotions got the best of me. I finished getting ready and then we walked to our cars, "I'll see you tonight." He said and I blew him a kiss. He cheesily caught it and put it in his pocket.
Then I was alone.
Today was going to be a long day.

The Forgotten Hero
Long ago, in the world of Thyne, the Alliance of the Free Races, a name they had given themselves, summoned a hundred humans from another dimension. Praised as heroes by the people, they rejoiced that they had been able to acquire pure, mana deficient humans that wanted to aid them in their time of need, ignoring the black, archaic slave collars around their necks or the depressed, almost hate-filled expressions that they received when interacting with them. After Ten years of bloody war, the dark races were pushed back deep into their territories. Both sides were near breaking point and desperate to end the war once and for all. In a bargain, the twelve surviving heroes launched a high-risk mission, utilising advanced tactics from their home world to kill the Demon Lord. In exchange, they would be sent home, along with the magically preserved corpses of their comrades, though in truth, they knew that even if they returned, they would never be the same. Legends say that, upon ambushing the Demon Lord in his castle, they finally understood the plight of the world, and in the last act of heroism, sacrificed their lives, sealing him in an eternal prison so his essence would not be able to create another. With the loss of the Demon Lord, and no chance for another to be born, the dark races quickly surrendered and the free races celebrated, honouring the noble sacrifice of the heroes before quickly forgetting about them as they returned to their everyday lives. However, legends are rarely truthful, embellished by the victors in order to earn praise as well as hide the less desirable aspects of their deeds. Trapped in the Demon Lord's throne room inside the Demonic Palace, which even taking a single step on its desecrated grounds is punished by death, two figures remain motionless. They had long run out of insults and threats to trade and now they waited. For what, not even the Gods knew.
