《As Straight As The Crow Flies {a Sons of Anarchy story}》chapter twelve

“How? How the hell did you do that?” Tig stuttered out after I handed him his ass.
He never even got to shoot. After I broke triangle of balls, I sunk every ball I shot at. Tig was leaning on the table, gripping the corners tightly. He kept muttering ‘how’ over and over. I chuckled and shrugged as I put the cue back. With a sigh he put his cue back beside me.
“I guess a deal is a deal.” He said.
He put his hands in his pockets and leaned against the wall. I smiled and nodded.
“Yep, I won fair and square.” I said.
He rolled his eyes.
“I don’t know if I’d call it fair, but you did win. I’ll leave you alone. I mean unless you want to give me a kiss?’ He said with a shrug.
I rolled my eyes and walked to the bar. The party was in full swing. Chibs and Juice were hypnotized by some girl on the stripper pole, Kip was talking to another girl and Bobby was face down on two women. I shook my head and fixed myself a drink. I noticed Jax and Opie were talking about something and he nodded towards me. I raised my eyebrow and walked over to them.
“Where’d you learn to shoot pool like that?” Opie asked.
I smiled and shrugged.
“I used to hustle pool for extra cash.” I said.
Jax choked on his drink and Opie nodded in approval.
“You’re just full of surprises, aren’t you?” Jax said.
I just shrugged and walked away from them. The music changed to a slow rock song with a strong bass. Kip smiled at me from across the room and I walked over to join him. A group of girls followed and we started dancing. At first I was in the middle of two other girls. We were moving and grooving to the beat against each other. A blonde girl who was wearing a corset and skirt was behind me. Her hands slipped around my waist and she was pulling me close to her. The red head in front of me was covered in tattoos and was just wearing ‘titty tassels’ and panties kept pressing herself up against me. All of a sudden I felt a different pair of hands on my hips. They were Kips.
JAX
“She hustled pool?” Opie asked when McKayla walked on.
I shrugged and sipped on my Jack. The club house was packed tonight. Girls in little to no clothes filled the room. McKayla ended up in the middle of the room between two Crow Eaters. My mouth dropped a little. She was bumping and grinding with these two chicks to a slow and steady beat. Op chuckled beside me and I gave him a shove, but kept my eyes on her. In a flash, Half Sack appeared behind her and put his hands on her hips. A fire, red and hot burned through my veins. McKayla was smiling as she turned around and put her arms around his neck. I felt furious. Op raised his eyebrow and then looked at McKayla and Sack.

I couldn’t understand why seeing McKayla with Sack made me so angry. She wasn’t my old lady or anything so why should it matter? As I mulled that over, Sack leaned down and whispered something in her ear that made her laugh. That was enough for me. I shot out of my chair, knocking it backwards as I did. Op stood up with me and put his hand on my arm.
“Jax, don’t do anything stupid.” He said to me.
I brushed him off and clenched my fists. My mind was clouded by alcohol and rage. A part of me wanted to go over to them and break Sack’s arms and throw him out of the club. But the other part knew that it was my own damn fault this was happening. The next thing I knew I was out in the parking lot and on my bike. I fired it up and sped off. I ended up at home and saw Neeta’s car in the driveway. It was passed midnight and my mom should’ve been here. I shut the bike off and walked into the house.
“Mr. Jax.” She said happily when she saw me.
I nodded to her and looked down the hall.
“Where’s my mom?” I asked.
Neeta closed the book she was reading and stood to leave.
“She called and asked if I could stay until you or Miss McKayla came home. I think she and Mr. Clay were having some alone time.” She said with a wink.
I chuckled and shook my head. Yeah, that sounded like mom.
“Thanks for staying, Neeta.” I said.
She smiled and walked to the door and opened it.
“My pleasure.” She said.
I watched and made sure she got into her car and out of the driveway safely before closing the door. Everything in the house was quiet. Abel was sleeping soundly in the crib. I smiled at him and reached down to touch his face.
“Love you, little man.” I whispered to him.
Looking at him made my anger slip away for a moment. Just for a moment thought. There was half a bottle of Jack under the sink. I skipped the glass and just drank straight from the bottle. I took my cut off and tossed it on the couch then went to the kitchen to drink. A bike pulled into the drive way a few minutes later. I looked out the window and saw that Opie had brought McKayla home.
When she walked in the door, she stared at me with her eyebrow raised.
“Why’d you bail?” She asked me.
The anger inside of me boiled over. I stood from the table and stalked over to her. I backed her up against the door and put my hands on either side of her head. McKayla gulped and put her hands on my chest.

“Jax, what’s wrong?” She asked me.
Her voice was trembling and her body shaking.
“You won’t even kiss me, but you’ll grind your ass all over Half Sack?” I whispered darkly to her.
Confusion filled her eyes as she looked at me.
“What? Jax I was just dancing! Why the hell do you care anyway? I’m not your old lady.” She spat at me.
She shoved me hard, but I didn’t budge. We stared at each other for a moment and I couldn’t help it. I lunged for her and crashed my lips to hers and kissed her with hunger. McKayla was shocked at first. She tried to back away from me, but I wouldn’t let her. I pressed her back flush against the wall and put both of my hands on her face. I kissed her hard and rough. Soon we were both gasping for air and wanting more. She kissed down my neck and gently bit down on it. I growled at her and picked her up. Before we knew it, we were on the bed. I was down to my boxers and she to her bra and panties. I looked down at her and found her eyes. She was breathing heavily and biting her lip.
“You’re beautiful.” I said to her softly.
She smiled and put her hand on the back of my neck and pulled me on top of her.
“Please?” She breathed in my ear.
I pulled myself up enough so that I could see her eyes. Lust had turned them from brown to a sexy black. I put my hand on her cheek and looked deeper into them.
“Are you sure?” I asked her.
She just nodded and pressed herself up against me. I groaned and needed no further encouragement. As I started kissing her neck and chest, McKayla reached over and turned out the lights.
~ ~
“Good morning.” McKayla called.
With a groan, I dragged my arm from my face and winced at the sunlight. McKayla was wrapped in a towel and her hair was wet. I smiled at her and she smiled back. As she dug in the dresser for something to wear, I remembered what we did last night. My smile turned into a smirk and I pulled myself out of bed. I slid my arms around her waist and kissed her neck.
“Good morning.” I said against her skin.
I felt her shiver under my lips and I chuckled. She smiled and turned to face me. My thumb brushed her cheek and I leaned down to kiss her. McKayla hesitated at first, but then leaned into it. I smiled at her and pulled back.
“Are you okay? With you know, last night?” I asked her softly.
I took her hands in mine and looked into her eyes. She looked into mine and then looked away. A smile played on her face.
“Yeah, actually.” She said with a shrug.
I smiled and ran my thumb across her hand. She rolled her eyes and pushed my playfully.
“Go get dressed.” She said.
I smirked and kissed her again. As I stood up, I caught her sneaking a glance at my ‘other half’. I chuckled and went into the bathroom to shower. When I came out, I heard McKayla singing to Abel. I grinned and walked into the room. She smiled as she walked him around the room.
“What?” She asked.
She was smiling and holding Abel close to her.
“I love seeing you with him.” I said.
She blushed and I walked closer to them.
“And I love waking up to you every morning and going to bed with you every night. I love feeling your lips on mine and I really loved making love to you.” I continued.
McKayla’s blush deepened and she shifted Abel on her other hip.
“I love all of those things too Jax, but what are you trying to say?” She asked me.
I shrugged and rubbed the back of my neck.
“Seeing you last night, dancing with Sack it did something to me. It made me feel something inside that I haven’t felt in a while. Jealousy. And I realized that I didn’t want anyone ever to be that close to you.” I said.
A grin spread across her lips and she turned to face me. Abel started to fuss so I took him.
“Jax, are you saying that you want me to be your old lady?” She asked.
I didn’t say anything, I just pulled her close to me and kissed her lips softly. She smiled into the kiss and pulled away.
“Is that a yes?” She asked.
I chuckled and kissed her forehead and started for the kitchen.
“Jax, that’s not an answer?” She said with her hands on her hips.
I laughed and put Abel in his high chair. McKayla marched over to me. She was leaning over me and her breasts were all but popping out of the shirt she was wearing. I bit my lip and she leaned close to my face.
“I want you to say it.” She said slowly.
I sighed playfully at her and looked up at her. Her eyebrow was raised like she was expecting something so I opened my mouth.
“McKayla, I want you to be my old lady.”

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.
