If you want readers, your introduction has to be good. The introduction is the first impact of your story.

There are 3 types of introductions.

1-Introducing your characters

You can introduce your character in your introduction. For example in the fanfiction "After" by imaginator1d she started her story with this sentence: "Tessa Young is an 18 year old college student with a simple life, excellent grades and a sweet boyfriend."

This is a simple way to start a story and her story is really popular. But if you're going to introduce your character please introduce them in a good way and not in a stupid way.

2-A scene of your story

Another way to start your introduction is with a scene of your story. Let's see an example. "Mr. Popular and I" by thefreakoffreaks:

"You and I both know that any girl would kill to be in your position, with me, right now." He smirks, knowing that what he's said is completely and utterly true"

People usually use this type of introduction when there is something that you're character is never going to forget like someone's death or waking up in a hospital.

3-Starting a story with a quote

This type of introduction in my opinion is a poetic way to start a story but it doesn't mean that this way is more important than the others. They are all amazing ways to start a story. Let's see an example:

"Love is not about how much you say 'I love you' but how much you can prove it's true."

Joe is the type of guy that doesn't show his feelings to other girls. In fact he has never been in love his entire life. But when Joe has to prove his love for a very sentimental girl, a simple "I love you" isn't enough for her. What is he going to do?"

Okay, I know I'm not the best writer in the world and this introduction is awful but you understood what I'm trying to say!

Little details:

-Questions

I love when people write questions in their introductions. It makes me want to know the answers for those questions, so I'll read the book. "What is going to happen when these two people meet? Will they hate each other? Will they fall in love? Will they become friends?"

-Words

I also like when people use single words to describe their story, for example:

Love

Mystery

Betrayal

It makes me want to read the story.

Things you shouldn't write in your introduction:

"Jane is 16 years old. She lives in London with her mother and her sister. She's blonde and her eyes are blue. She is tall, skinny, she looks like a Victoria's Secret Model and she's perfect and blah blah blah."

I HATE WHEN PEOPLE WRITE THESE TYPES OF INTRODUCTIONS.

If you're going to introduce your character, I think you should write about her personality and not the way she looks like. You have to IMAGINE the way your character looks like but you don't have to write it. You can write it in the middle of your story if you want to. For example: "My green eyes met his blue ones but quickly I looked away" or "I am a tall girl compared to other people but when I'm next to him I feel like I am the shortest person in the world."
