《My Next Door Neighbour Hisses》Chapter 6

My eyes open heavy from my pleasant dream. I don't remember it, but I feel happy. Stretching out my body and rubbing my hands in my face to wake myself a little before relaxing and staring at the ceiling. Unexpectedly, my mind becomes aware of an observant detail. My room was brighter than normal. Usually, in the morning, the room is a bit dark but it's a bit brighter. Hang on, what is the time? Reaching out to my phone, the screen lit up revealing the time at the top.
"10:30?!" I pointed out to myself in shock. Underneath the time was a message. Claiming that my phone's alarm went off at 9am, but I didn't stop it. But...the alarm is always loud. I would have been disturbed by it. How is it that I manage to sleep through it? Did I really sleep that deep? I didn't take any sleeping pills, that's for sure. Did I?
I sometimes take sleeping pills when I have trouble sleeping. But only if it's been happening for a few days. That hasn't but...what happened last night? I tried to remember but my mind is blank. I remember going out to put rubbish in the bin after dinner and returning indoors but that's it. Nothing else. How is it that I cannot remember what I did last time before going to bed?
But it's not like I did anything important. I never do any work after dinner. That's my policy. But honestly, I always remember what I did and that worries me if something happened last night. Suddenly my mind indicated a dreadful smell. God, what is that? I sniff the quilt cover and rejected it in disgust. Gross! What on earth happened last night? Whatever, I need to change it. Already, my room stinks of it. It's like an animal smell or something. I went into the bathroom only to have the smell follow me.

I sniffed my skin and once again was disgusted and surprised that the smell was also on me. Seriously, now I'm worried. But first, I need a shower. I stink! After taking a long shower, I headed back into my bedroom to remove the bedcovers and any clothing that had the smell on it, luckily, it was only pyjamas and put them in the washing machine. I returned to my bedroom with fresh bedcovers, though the smell lingered so I opened a window.
As I set the fresh bedsheets on, something cool and smooth brushed against my foot. My body went full alert and I jumped back. What the hell? I got down on the floor to look under the bed. So far, I could only see the boxes that I stuffed underneath because I couldn't find room in my wardrobe. Just when I was about to get up, movement from behind one of the boxes caught my eyes. Curiously, I pulled out the box the movement was behind. When my eyes got a clear view of it, I froze.
It was a snake. A huge snake. Then it suddenly senses. The smell of an animal was of the snake. And...it was on me! It was on me last night!!! It was as if a hyperdrive turned on inside me, I bolted out of my bed screaming like if the devil was in my bedroom. But when I got to the stairs, I lost my footing and fell. Tumbling down until I hit the hard floor.
"...ow..." I cried out painfully. I lay there as my body picked up the pain from different areas from where I had placed impacted by the fall. Ugh, I'm going to have bruises from weeks. It took about a minute before I remembered why I was running. THERE'S A SNAKE IN MY BEDROOM!!!!!!!!!

My body kicked in again and I was off running to the door. Quickly I opened the door and sprinted only to tackle a solid object to the ground. Luckily, this time I had a softer landing. Wait, what did I land on? I lifted my body up to get a clearer look and I went into shock.
"Adrian?" I called in confusion and shock. I ran into him, but what is he doing here?
"Ow," he only replied.
"Oh, my god, Adrian, I'm so sorry." I apologies loads of time as I helped him get up. "Are you alright? What are you doing here?"
"Well," he started as he got up, "I heard you screaming so I came over to see what was happening before you ran into me, hard."
"I'm sorry. But..."
"But what? What's going on?" he asked.
I began shaking as I remembered it. "There's...there's a s-snake in my bedroom." I answered in fear. Adrian's eyes widen to my answer. Why is he shocked as I am?
"How big? Was it an olive coloured?" he asked.
"I don't what colour it was, but it was big." I answered, "It's hiding underneath my bed!" I cried. Then he headed inside my house and up the stairs. Was he going to get the snake? Right, I forgot, he handles them, sort of. But why would he be surprised about it? A few moments later, he comes back down with something long around his neck and along his arm. Immediately, I squealed and turned away, moving away from the door.
"Sophia?" Adrian questioned.
"Just get it away from me please!" I begged him. I hear his footstep fade away and with that, I quickly returned to the house. After a few minutes later, the doorbell went. I headed back to the door to see Adrian return. He looks at me guiltily.
"Are you alright?" he asks softly.
"Yeah," I mumbled, "I'm fine, just a little shaken."
"I'm sorry, it's my fault." He said. "That snake that was under your bed was mine. I let him out in my room last night and forgot to put him back. So he must have snuck out and got into your bedroom last night."
I didn't answer back. His story and mistake only reminded me of what happened years ago with the constrictor. It's because they don't lock these animals up. They are not dogs or cats, they are dangerous creatures that can harm people and even kill.
"Sophia?" he called again being me out of my thoughts. I looked back at him still refusing to answer back. I don't know really what to say. Why am I not forgiving him? I cannot hate him. Everyone forgets. Everyone makes mistakes. Suddenly I was pulled into a warm embrace. He's hugging me. He's hugging me!
"I'm sorry." He said again. I couldn't help but hug him back with passion knowing that I'm hugging my hottest neighbour I ever have.
Finally, I said with warmth, "I forgive you."
