《Ninjago: One More Ninja》Chapter 34: Versus

At the palace, an Anacondrai Cultist is serving the Elemental Masters their food.
"Nu-uh. Nothing for you" one refused to give Garmadon biscuits
Garmadon turned to Lloyd "There's a valuable lesson here, son. If you turn your back on your first evil Sensei in an effort to go straight..."
"Next!"
" ...you may not be served creamy biscuits" Garmadon finished
"And if you're a princess you get whatever you want" Cole said annoyed, pointing to Aria who had high class food like Chen
Aria shrugged "I say being evil pays off some times"
"Well, I know what we are being served. A whole bunch of baloney. This isn't a fighting tournament. It's an alibi for Chen to steal everyone's powers. But we still don't know why" Lloyd said
"Isn't it obvious?" Kai questioned "Chen wants to destroy New Ninjago City. I don't know what it is, but that place has had a string of bad luck"
"I'm not so sure. From what Sensei G's told us about him, I have a feeling it's something far more sinister" Cole suggested
"And may I remind us, we still don't know where Zane is, which is why we all need to take care of our first rounds to give us more time" Jay added "Don't look at me. I've already moved on"
"Your opponent got himself kicked out" Cole said
"Hehe, either way, it's my day off" Jay turns to the Cultist "Extra creamy biscuits. And don't skimp"
They start walking away from the line. Jay and Cole started arguing until Aria pushed them both forward. Lloyd sighed.
"The tournament will test them, Lloyd. Either find a way for them to make peace, or neither of them will move on" Garmadon said
Chen came on the intercom "The tournament of Elements continues. Fun time! Would the following Masters please make their way to their assign arena? Speed, Gravity, Smoke, Nature, Mind, oh, and last and hopefully not least... Darkness!"
"yes!" Aria cheered
"Remember, only one can remain" Chen finished
"Aria don't go overboard" Lloyd instructed
"Oh please, I've been looking forward to fighting these losers" Aria said earning a look from all the elemental masters
"Aria's going to get us all killed" Kai said covering his face
-
The fighters are in their arenas.

"Turner, Master of Speed, versus Gravis, Master of Gravity. Fight!" The two make their way toward the Jadeblade. Neuro and Bolobo begin their match.
"Neuro, Master of Mind, versus Bolobo, Master of Nature. Fight". Neuro uses his Mind on his opponent. Neuro manages to dodge Bolobo's vines.
Aria and Ash's fight begins.
"Aria, Master of Darkness, versus Ash, Master of Smoke"
"This is unfair, she's a Dark Lord!" Ash shouted
"Fight!" The two run to each other
The Masters watches Neuro and Bolobo's fight. Neuro gets trapped in Bolobo's vines. Gravis levitates some of the flowers from the tree. Neuro uses his Mind to give Bolobo a headache, freeing him and using another vine to climb the rock and grab the Jadeblade.
"Winner! ...Loser!" Bolobo screams as he falls under a trapdoor "Master of Mind moves on"
Gravis levitates the Jadeblade, but Griffin grabs it
"Winner! ...Loser!" The trapdoor opens, but Gravis laughs when he doesn't fall in. Chen drops a sandbag on him. "Master of Speed move on"
Aria goes to kick Ash who turns into smoke and appears behind her.
"Behind you!" Kai shouts
Ash goes to kick her but is grabbed by a purple hand made of darkness that comes out of the ground. Aria laughs and throws a dark energy ball at him hitting him right in the chest. The ninja cheer as Garmadon watches with concern.
Ash turns into smoke, Aria takes out her fans and uses them to create strong gusts of energy that moves his smoke form off the bridge. Ash turns back into solid form and falls towards the lava. Aria used her fans to blast him to solid rock.
Aria climbs up and grabs the Jadeblade.
"Winner! ...Loser!" A trapdoor opens and Ash falls through "Master of Darkness moves on"
Back in the palace, Chen laughs as he watches his Kabuki perform for him. The Ninja approach the Elemental Masters, who are gathered around the bracket.
"What's all the commotion?" Jay questions and they gasp when they see Cole and Jay on the same bracket.
"No, he can't do this" Cole said angrily
"He already did" Aria said "He's the master of this tournament, he can do whatever he wants"
"But why does it say I have to fight Cole?" Jay questions "It didn't say that before. I'm not ready to fight. It was supposed to be my day off"

"Is there a problem, Ninja?" Clouse asked as he approached them
"You cheated!" Cole shouted "You changed the brackets"
"Oopsie" Clouse laughs and walks away.
"What do we do?" Lloyd asked "They can't fight each other. We came here to become whole, not fall further apart"
"You can't undo what's been done. My only advice is to be at peace with it" Garmadon suggested
"Peace? One of us has to lose! Oh, my gosh. It's totally gonna be me. He's got super strength and what do I have? Quick, tell me! What do I have!?" Jay shouted
Aria slapped him hard leaving a red handprint on his cheek "Get ahold of yourself!"
"Ow!" Jay rubbed his cheek "...I needed that"
"Don't listen to my dad. We find Zane then none of us have to battle. Your fight isn't until tonight so we still have time to figure out what Chen's up to and stop this" Lloyd said
Kai nodded "And I think I know just the person who can help. And I think he already knows"
At night, the Ninja went to see Neuro.
"We need your help, Neuro" Lloyd said
"You think I can get close to Chen to read his mind, so you can find your robotic friend and not have to fight" Neuro said
"Don't forget—"
"You still need to know what Chen's up to because he's hiding something" Neuro added
"That's really impressive, Nerdo" Aria said
Neuro glanced at her "It's Neuro, Master of the Mind. And Cole thinks Jay won't last long in a fight"
"Pfft. You think that?" Jay asked
Cole shrugged "You just said it yourself"
"But you didn't have to believe it" Jay said angrily
"Don't be offended, Cole. Jay here thinks you're the least valuable Ninja" Neuro said
"You don't say" Cole said angry, they start pushing each other.
Aria grabbed both their arms and flipped them onto their backs "Knock it off you two"
"Aria for the win" Kai said nodding in approval
"We wanted you to help, Neuro, not make things worse" Lloyd told him annoyed
"But why would I help? You're competition. The sooner you're out, the better for me" Neuro said
"Because if you don't I'll snap you in half" Aria threatened looking him in the eyes "If you don't believe I will just look into my head and you'll know"
"Easy girl" Lloyd pulled Aria back "Neuro if you want what's best for you, just look into my head and you'll see what this tournament is all about" Neuro does, and sees Lloyd's memory of Chen stealing Karlof's Metal "It's only a matter of time before Chen steals your power too. So are you in?"
-
That night, Jay and Cole prepares for their fight.
"Thinks it'll be an easy fight. Well, I'll show him! Haha!" Jay was beating a dummy
Neuro arrives.
"You're cutting it close" Aria said crossing her arms "So did you see into his head?"
"I'm sorry. I couldn't get past Clouse" Neuro said
Aria sighed "I knew it'd be useless"
"But I did see something. For a brief moment, I saw inside Clouse's mind. The powers he's collecting, they are for a spell. A spell for what, I don't know. But it's in his spellbook on page 149" Neuro informed her "I'm sorry it's not enough to stop the fight. I wish I could've done more"
"That's okay. You've done what you could" Aria said patting him on the back
"We had it coming, it's time me and Cole settle things" Jay hit the dummy
"Jay all brothers fight" Aria said "but real brothers make up and move past it"
Aria joins the other ninja in the stans
"Let the tournament continue! Jay, Master of Lightning, versus Cole, Master of—"
They start fighting. Cole overpowers Jay with Earth. They talk a bit and they start fighting without their Elemental Powers. Jay and Cole worked together to defeat the Condrai Crushers that Chen releases.
"Ah, they fight together. Good work" Garmadon said patting Lloyd and Aria on the back
Lloyd shrugged "Yeah, we listen to you every once in a while"
"Enough! I know what you are trying to do. If neither of you will win, then both of you will lose!" Chen activates the trap doors.
Cole takes the Blade but throws it to Jay.
"Winner! ...Loser! Master of Lightning moves on" Chen drops Cole in a trapdoor "About time. Phew"
"Cole may be gone, but he did not lose. Let what he did here today be a lesson for us all: know thine enemy, but more importantly, know thy friend. He fought like a true Ninja" Garmadon said
Aria hugged Lloyd sadly and he rubbed her head "It's ok Aria, Cole will be aright"

No More Respawns
Synopsis: The first time Allen died, he was forced back into a living hell where death is temporary, and power is all that matters. With evil and depravity as the rule, tragedy becomes comedy and life becomes an act. Only a deal with a shady god can get him back to his old life, but what happens if there’s nothing left to save? Maybe hell isn’t so bad if you have infinite lives… until you don’t. Needless to say, it’s all fun and games until there’s no more respawns. Foreword: This story is meant primarily as an action adventure and secondarily as a dark and nihilistic comedy. It may not be readily apparent in the beginning, but that's what I have planned (I feel the need to emphasize the dark; don’t rage at me if it gets too ‘traumatizing’ or something). I’m going to take my time with this, so it won’t immediately inundate you with doom and gloom. This is also a comedy, remember? On that note, if for some cursed reason you just can't handle either the references or the jokes, I am willing to battle in the comments. Anyway, I still put a significant amount of effort into the system, so I hope you enjoy that part. It is a little bulky, I'll admit to that, but I wanted to try something new and its more fun when there's more depth to it. Regardless, I still have a lot of fun doing math in the middle of writing a fictional story (/s). I also want to see if I can keep from messing up the pacing. Many times, I end up going too fast because I'm afraid of the story getting boring, which tends to ironically have the opposite effect. I'm still learning I suppose; we'll see how things go. Lastly, please leave reviews and comments, they really mean a lot to me and (usually) help me improve considerably. I'll be asking for feedback in the polls and I do still check the old ones from time to time. Notes: The story takes a bit of time to develop; give it time if you're here for drama, grimdark, or antihero. The system is all blue boxes and I'm not half-assing the numbers. Chapters will be between 1k and 2k words usually. I always use the oxford coma, fight me. Might drop if rating falls below 4 stars, idk. It depends on how my life is going. Cover drawn by yours truly in MS paint. (I have skill, I know)

Updates Sunday - Tuesday - Thursday![successful participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Rating: This should align pretty closely with your typical MCU movie, so PG-13 for scenes of fantasy violence. There'll be gore and some swearing but not much beyond that. If that changes, I'll warn you. MC: Shaya is analytical, but begins the story emotional and impulsive. She leans towards rationality and uses this to control her demonic impulses to the best of her abilities. She begins the story as a somewhat capable protagonist, but grows in power steadily through hard work and diligence. Fights: ...I like fight scenes. They’re going to be detailed, but I won’t drown you in description of individual hand movements or footwork. I like fights that can be solved like puzzles by the audience, where creative thinking wins the day using tools you know the protagonist has at their disposal.
