《The Alpha's Human Mate》Chapter 50 Out Lying The Liar

Xavier's POV
"Mind link me the second that you have her and know that she's ok," I told Grayson for the tenth time before they left.
"How many more times do I have to tell you that I will before you stop asking?" Grayson rolled his eyes at me. "She's my luna, my best friend, Xavier. Of course I'll make sure that she's ok and let you know right away. We're going to get her back."
"We're going to get her back," Ivy promised. "And then have bodyguards around her 24/7 to make sure that nothing like this ever happens again."
"We need to leave now before the sun starts to set," Hunter cut in. "We need to assume that Mr. Thomas has someone there with her that'll make sure she rejects you when the moon is out."
"But he doesn't trust anyone enough to have someone there with Addie," Audrey said. "I thought that we knew he was working alone."
"I'm almost confident he's working alone," Hunter started. "But we still need to plan for the worst, and in this case, the worst is that someone's there holding her."
"And that's why he's our top warrior," Grayson nodded.
"Or," Bard cut in. "You could say that he's our top Hunter," he snicked.
"Really not the time right now," Audrey rolled her eyes at her mate. "Save the back jokes for after Addison is home and safe."
"Right, sorry," Brad mumbled.
"Anyway," Hunter cleared his throat to get everyone's attention back. "If that's all for jokes, then we really should be moving out now before the sun starts to set like I already mentioned."
"Be safe," Cecelia said quickly, planting a kiss on her mate's cheek before pulling away and coming to stand next to me.
"Don't rip his head off," Ivy reminded me one last time before the five of them walked out of the office and out to go get Addie.
"You ready for this?" I asked Cecelia as we made our way to the conference room.
"Please, I didn't get a top grade in drama class for nothing." I could hear the smirk in her voice as she talked about how good at acting she was.
I took a deep breath before pushing the doors open. Mr. Thomas was sitting on one of the couches, he was holding an ice-pack up to his temple and talking with my parents.

"I just hope that they'll be able to find her before the moon comes out," he said, his voice dripping with fake sadness that made my blood boil.
"Mr. Thomas," I announced. "How are you doing? I'm so sorry that I wasn't in here sooner, but I was talking with wolves that were tracking Addsion's scent and trying to come up with a game plan for how we'll be able to find her. We already have Mrs. Avery calling out to her human friends in Arizona in hopes that that's where she went."
"My boy," Mr. Thomas patted the empty seat next to him. "Please come sit. I can't imagine how you're feeling right now, a mate is something that is so important to our kind, and having yours leave. . ." he trailed off like he was trying to find the right words to say. "I just want you to know that I don't blame you for this, Xavier. When people make up their minds, there's nothing else that can be done. Especially with a human, they simply just don't understand us."
"Where's Hunter?" My mom asked Cecelia.
"He's helping to organize the search for Addison. He, Brad, and Grayson are all down in the tactics room making routes. But I wanted to be here with everyone right now," Cecelia let the lie roll off her tongue.
"And their mates?" Mr. Thomas tried to ask casually, but Cecelia and I both knew that he was just making sure they were out and not off like they really were.
"With Mrs. Avery," I said with fake sadness. "They're all in my office just having a moment."
"I should go and give her my apologies and let her know that I in no way blame her for her daughter's actions."
"Maybe we should give her some more time," my mom stepped in. "As a mother myself, I can't even begin to fathom how she's feeling right now, so I believe that it's best to give Sandra some more space."
"I have to agree with my wife here," my dad nodded his head. "Borth Audrey and Ivy are such close friends with Addison that they're giving Sandra more comfort than we could at this time."
I was worried that Mr. Thomas would protest, that he would insist to go see Mrs. Avery just to look at the pained expression on her face. So I tried my very best to hide my shock when Mr. Thomas agreed with both my parents.

"You're right," he agreed. "I don't want to cause any trouble right now."
"How are you feeling, Mr. Thomas?" Cecelia asked in a sweetly sick voice. "I know that the pack doctor came to have a look, but I haven't heard anything more."
Mr. Thomas waved her off, pressing the half-melted ice pack more into his temple. "You're too sweet Cecelia," he smiled at her fake concern. "The pack doctor gave me a once over and some pain medication, you know, I don't heal like I used to anymore."
That's because you're not hurt! Because a human, luna or not, could never injure you this much! I wanted to yell that at him 7ntil his ears were bleeding. But right now all I could do was bite my lip and bear it until Addison was back at my side.
"Are you sure that I can't get you another ice pack, Mr. Thomas?" Mt mom offered.
"Please Kathy," he shook his head. "I can always get myself another one, plus, I wouldn't want you away from your family might now with the luna of the pack missing."
"Allow me!" My dad said surprising everyone in the room. "I was going to head down to the kitchen and put on a pot of coffee anyways, and plus it gives me a reason to do a once over on the pack and make sure that all the hunters and trackers are working together."
Mr. Thonmas looked like he wanted to say no, but every werewolf knew that you didn't say no to an Alpha's kind gesture -- that would just be rude.
"Son, why don't you come with me so that we discuss what to do if Addison's not found, the adjustments that would happen," my dad said getting up from his seat and motioning for me to follow him.
"Coming."
I could tell that my dad knew that something was up. Even with Addison missing, Hunter would be by Cecelia's side, but since he was an alpha and had a heightened sense of smell, he would tell that Hunter's scent was fading.
"What's going on, Xavier?" He demanded the second that we were alone in the kitchen. "Where is Hunter and the rest of them? Also, what is this I hear about you feeling 'rejection pians'? Are you losing your mind right now?" He spoke in a calm and collected tone, but I could tell that if I didn't answer him I wouldn't like the results.
So I told him. I told him all about Ivy confessing to me and Hunter at the gym, and then how they went out and snooped around. I told him about the Blue Moon pack and Addison's family connection and how much Mr. Thomas hated humans. I could see his eyes slowly grow wider and wider as I spoke until I had finally finished telling him everything up until we left to come down here.
"When did your sister get so good at lying? I thought that she was actually concerned for Mr. Thomas back there, but now I need to reevaluate every single she's ever told me," my dad groaned out shaking his head in annoyance.
"She chalks it up to taking drama class," I shrugged.
"So what do you have the tracker's doing right now if we actually have a group on their way to Addison?" My dad asked.
"Until we have Addison in our safety, we're not telling anyone. Hunter is planning for a worst-case that someone in the pack is on the side or that Mr. Thomas has someone working with him. So until then, I'm letting the trackers stick to their original plans."
"Don't tell your mother any of this yet, you know how she is with her temper and if she knows what you just told me, well then she'll kill Mr. Thomas herself."

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
